I think Splinter not wanting to go out from the sewers is likely a weak explanation for his absence, which was needed for the show to focus more on the turtles, and for stretching the Miwa plot, so they can always set up the major events for the ending episodes of the seasons. For example Karai will probably find out about her being Splinter's daughter at the ending Eps of S2, and she will have some decisions to make. They should have done it other ways, really (like Splinter being too old)... Unless they have a logical explanation for it. I mean sure, the show has absurd and humorous situations, and wierd stuff happening, but those are minor things, and so far they took the main plot points seriously, so...

I'm pretty sure they aren't trying to make Splinter anything more than a guide in this show. Someone they can go to for advice but still overcome their problems themselves. Just a guiding force if you will. Again though, I was blown away by this episode. It's exactly what I've been waiting for in a Raph focused episode. Just amazing.

Loving this episode! Corey Feldman as Slash is too awesome! I ended up watching this episode again after it was over. Finally, a decent episode for Raphael!

I was surprised by Slash's personality. Very intelligent. not the bunderhead like in the OT. Also, very powerful too.

Great episode. Why didn't Leo notice Mikey and Donnie were no longer with him? He went on his mutagen canister quest without even wondering what happened to the rest of his team, sans Raph. I found that a little odd. But otherwise awesome episode, was surprised to see maskless turtles and how beat up they got- didn't think nick would go there- cool.

I don't really feel like Slash was evil at all. He was misguided and temperamental, and obsessed with Raphael's obsessions. I kinda have hope for this Slash in future episodes where he'll join forces, if only temporarily, with the turtles.

Whoa... I think this is my favorite episode of season 2 so far...

Slash was awesome! Corey Feldman's voice worked perfectly. This episode really had me on the edge of my seat!

Wow, this episode was EPIC!!! Much more violent than I was expecting as well, I didn't think Slash/Spike would turn so quickly. It was amazing though, finally a strong Raph episode!

Also, LOVED the tea party scene. Provided some much-needed comic relief to this otherwise quite dark episode.

It was misguided. But intent to kill someone over it is kind of is evil. He knew exactly what he was doing despite his translucent, short-sighted mentality and didn't care at all for their lives. He viewed them as dead-weight, not sentient people that Raph would care about if they were gone. Having no remorse for your victims is something that is can be considered evil.

This is one thing that never made much sense to me in Nick. Splinter is not an old dying man here (like in Mirage, OT, etc.), he is healthy and much better fighter then the turtles, yet he sends his sons to fight HIS battles with the foot... Why? The writers really need to have a good reason for this, or else the whole series is a huge plothole.
In both Archie and IDW (especially in Archie, when he was also drawn as a lot younger) he is healthy, and totally the part of most of the battles.
Splinter was really old in Mirage, he had a reason to send his sons, for a one time revenge. In Nick he just abuses his children all the time to do the dirty work releated to him, because: a.) he can, no reason b.) he is an asshole c.) possible plothole. Pick your choice.

While I'm not sure if they are putting as much thought in it as I am, I feel like there is a deeper and perhaps darker reason for his behavior and that very well may include that he is sort of an a**hole. When April guilts him into helping out, I got really angry at his character and I think that was the writers showing that they recognized the plot hole and that maybe they have an explanation for it at some point. There is a Splinter thread around here somewhere and this aspect of the Nick Splinter is addressed further.

Man, I really loved this episode. And Slash is fantastic! I really want his action figure if the scale is allright. I'm hoping he's not going to be small like Leatherhead.

But I didn't like the clumsiness of Leonardo in this epsiode, and the unrealistic tea-time moment. Why does a child react on a mutated Turtle that way?!

The other thing I don't like is that the Turtles have really much (impressive) damage during the fight with Slash and shortly after, and when they are in their lair, all the big damage has dissappeared...

And I don't understand how a relative small turtle like Spike could mutate in a monster like Slash. I mean, Spike was a little bit bigger than the Turtles when they were normal unmutated Turtles. It has made more sense if a snapping turtle would become Slash. And by the way; I miss Spike already... I got four Turtles myself (you can guess their names hahah) and I loved the relationship between Raphael and Spike...

The animation of this show is wonderful and Nickelodeon is really doing a suberb job

Definitely evil in context, but Slash is not irredeemably evil. He's short-sighted because of Raphael would use him to vent his frustrations, so that's all he knew. If Slash had a less aggressive owner, would have have affected his attitude after his mutation? I think so. And who knows, maybe a side-effect of the Mutation is a form of psychosis that leads to violent behavior. The only non-violent mutant we've seen so far is Pidgeon Pete.

I noticed that....If the majority of the time Raph talked to Spike was about how annoying his brothers were...than it's kinda Raph's fault in a way.....

Slash is like a mutated hate letter....going after it's victim for it's sender
...hmm....that kinda deep I think I'll use that again sometime.

I don't see it as abuse. I see it more as he is giving his sons the freedom to explore the world beyond their home, and establish a place for themselves in the fabric of human society. The world beyond the sewers doesn't interest him because it reminds him of what he has lost and it just doesn't hold anything for him anymore. So he remains in the sewers so someone is there to protect their home and serves a teacher and guide to remind them of who they are if they start to lose their way.

The other incarnations of Splinter also remained home much of the time, but they went out with their sons for situations that had lots of serious events going on. And we may see that further in this season.

Yeah, like I said earlier in this topic, Raph unknowingly created his own demon through all his time spent with Spike. Slash pretty much is a culmination of his anger, need to fight, and desire to just do things solo. No love or appreciation for anything besides his own needs.

It apears that the mutagen taints the mind bringing madness with the advanced physical form. That would explain the lack of good mutants. Mutagen Man is not that bad of a guy only his mental state was driveen mad with his new form. Spike automatically becoming edgy and violent upon mutation was pretty much the same. The question that brings up is the turtles and Splinter did not become violent upon mutation. Could that be due to Splinterks discipline training from his years of training prior to his mjtation and teaching it to the four turtles?

IDK.....pigeon pete was pretty nice for a mutant

the only good guy that mutated and turned evil was Timothy.

everyone else was more or less already evil XD

Leatherhead was tortured so he has a good reason to be emotionally unstable.

and the roach-terminator was trying to get revenge on Raph for almost killing him! I'd say that's every bugs dream actually XD

EDIT: OH wait Kirby kinda turned evil....in a way....well not really he was just trying to help April.
