No, no. Not ridiculous. It was ridiculous, before someone decided plausible was better. What you call "shallow, cartoony, plot holes, or stupidity," others might call, "like a comic book." Just two different approaches.

Oh right.

A lot of double talk nonsense in this thread recently. Completely out of it.

Why must you post a gigantic picture to go along with your awful only-one-person-gets-it references.

This thread is about the new movie? Seems like it was merged with "Movie General".

yeah...

though I will say that I actually liked Season 3

though talking about Garo, I would like to see a live action turtle movie/series in the style of Garo (so, yeah like Next Mutation...but you know, better)

like that one scene where Ryuga was fighting blind, I'd like to see that with one of the turtles

Does it not make sense that one would speak differently so your enemies and friends cannot recignize your voice? Are people not able to understand that concept?

Return to turtle talk any time now.

I wonder if all of them have different battle guards on their limbs and such?

I would not be adverse to the idea of a Japanese live-action TMNT series with designs by Keita Amemiya so long as somebody else was writing.

Even for the absurd fantasy it is, some of the greatest stories usually take place in a semblance of a reality. Fantastical characters, or events based in a recognizable world outside of the superhero.

How about those Ninja Turtles? You know the original Mirage comics? Or the peak of the franchise, the 1990 TMNT film? Same deal. Treats material seriously, even given the absurdity of humanoid, talking NINJA turtles. Yet the whole film, or mythology at least while in NYC takes place in a recognizable reality, with plausible reactions to walking, talking, teenage ninja turtles.

I prefer a mixture of both the absurd, and reality. Which IMO is what the absolute best fiction does. It creates the best possible immersion into the material.
Grounding everything in reality just makes things easier to digest for people who didn't like fantasy in the first place. I'm not saying you can't tell a great story. I don't see this correlation between plausibility and quality. But I do know that there's tons of fun stuff in TMNT lore that exists outside of a "recognizable reality." (And plenty of it is from the Mirage comics.) And if you want to make it plausible, you have to strip some of it out. If that turns out to be a great work, that's dandy, but it's still less of what it was.

And I think it's just plain incorrect to attribute the height of TMNT's popularity to the movie, instead of the cartoon. That cartoon is easily the biggest thing that ever happened to the franchise in the whole 30 years it's been around.
