Rhat was a rhetorical question, right?

I can't believe people find Ice Cream Kitty cute or light-hearted. It's disgusting what Mikey did to that poor animal. The kitty would have been better off if April had never picked her up and taken her to the sewers.

(Seriously? Why? Who would possibly think 'oh the mutant turtles and their mutant RAT father are the perfect pals to watch over this stray. Especially the absent-minded goofy one who won't stop getting his gross, drippy dessert everywhere, INCLUDING near the failed retro-mutagen batch.

Yeah, can't trust that one not to wipe his butt on Leonardo's comic collection but he's totally the go-to choice for Pet Sitter!')

Mikey has learned absolutely NOTHING about being careful around hazardous material, despite episodes like Mikey Gets Shell-Acne which really should have hammered that point home.

I hope Ice Cream Kitty is restored to being a normal cat at some point but I am not watching another episode of Nick TMNT where animal cruelty and negligence are played for laughs. No freaking way.

Umm...this whole show is cruel then? People mutating into giant monsters? Why so concerned about a cat? Don't get me wrong, i understand animal cruelty isn't funny, but it this show, both people and animals are mutated unfortunately, both have been played for laughs in some cases. Why are you not upset about the squirrels? The turtles caused that too. They got grotesquely mutated? Spike was a pet, left alone, by raph, with the mutagen.

Just because the cat mutated into ice cream in a melting manner doesn't make it any worse than the others. That's what Ice cream does. It melts. But Mikey saved it in the freezer, the cat is obviously still alive, even saved Mikey, so it must like him.

And Mikey in 2k3 didn't have mutagen as a main focus. Plus I believe there's an episode where the cat drowns cause Mikey is unable to save it. It turns out to be something like a dream or whatever, but he was still unable to take care of it at that moment.

Eh. Cartoons are allowed to have some dark humor here and there.

Oh I know. I enjoy the darker humor. I was just wondering why they were thinking this cat mutation is a horrific tragedy compared to the rest of the show.

Mikey did care for ICKitty.

it wasn't Mikey's fault it got mutated, he was just petting it and looked away for a millisecond to find that the kitty was licking mutagen.

they shouldn't have brought the kitty into a hazardous environment.

in fact Donnie really shouldn't have the retro mutagen out like that! What happens if that stuff spills?!

so blame April for bringing the kitty into Donnie's lab
Blame Mikey for taking it closer to the retro mutagen
and blame Donnie for having that dangerous stuff out in the first place XD

anyway~ Mikey is taking good care of ICKitty, he was smart enough to put it in the freezer where she'd be nice and cool.

Hmm, you'd think that Donnie, the SMART One would keep better track of the mutagen, especially after the mutagen man incident.

He should rather lock it up in a super secret safe that's hidden behind a book shelf with a password protected door, security system, a locked door that needs a key only Donnie has, DNA scanner, and a code in order to open the safe. There, Donnie?!

I'm actually a vegan for ethical reasons. (have watched Earthlings, Fowl Play, and watched Melanie Joy's lecture The Psychology of Eating Meat (free on youtube), watched a few other vegans' hour long lectures-- Forks Over Knives, Food INC, all the Compassion Over Killing videos, Mercy for Animal vids, Farm Sanctuary testimonies, and, yes, even some of PETA's videos on laboratory animals)-- follow thisrawesomeveganlife, ohsheglows, stayingvegan, glutenfreevegan, veganomly, gardendiet, (blogs) etc. (just so it's clear I'm not just saying I'm vegan but am one. And, yes, many of the vids I watched gave me nightmares and I cried myself to sleep for several days (and, still do sometimes). I've also done the #tweet4taiji thing and the #OpFunKill tweet storms.

ANYWAY, all that being said, I still think ICK is adorable. It was a bit hard to watch the transformation but since I knew what it would turn into, I wasn't too worried. I felt most sorry for the failed experiment. Actually, I wish one of the turtles would adopt a kinder diet and become vegetarian at least (even though dairy is horrible for the body). I think that would be a better message than just not showing horrible things happening because horrible things do happen and it's best to learn how to deal with it. But I do appreciate your passion (I own two kitties myself).

Good episode. I loved the sudden Rat King faces and the Ice Cream Kitty (Voiced by Eastman ) Not a great episode, but certainly not a bad one. 7,5/10

...and have no access to oxygen, which cats need, and most mutants have needed. Now, we don't know if Ice Cream Kitty would need it, but Mikey made absolutely no attempt to find out, or really, any attempt to find out what an Ice Cream Kittens might need. Not to mention that many cats don't do terribly well in small, enclosed spaces, or that there's no telling what things the fridge contained that might have been harmful to the cat.

Well you know Timothy's mutation was more disturbing because they didn't even really show it. All we saw was his shadow, so the way I see it ICKs mutation was child's play compared to what Timothy went through.

Thanks, kolaida. Everybody's got their own 'berserk button' that sets them off. I did feel sorry for some of the other mutants including the squirrels, Pigeon Pete, the professor from Monkey Brains, Timothy, and Kirby.

But most of those mutants maintained some sentience. Most of them are able to function. With his robotic legs and breathing device, Xever/Fishface can still fight. Bradford/Dogpound was openly upset about his first mutation, and had a more positive reaction to becoming Rahzar.

Slash and Rahzar are but too examples of mutants who now prefer their new appearance and abilities, and they can vocalize their feelings.

Ice Cream Kitty is not portrayed as an intelligent anthropomorphic creature the way Splinter, Slash, and the turtles all are. Ice Cream Kitty is a more tragic mutant, one that still retains most of their animal instincts but now may not be able survive in the environments it was used to.

It hits harder for me because I own cats, I love and care for them. I have also unfortunately encountered people who are deliberately cruel to animals.

Shoving a normal cat into a freezer WILL kill them. It's something that should have been mentioned in-show, so no child tries that at home, and so that's clear that all the characters- including Mikey- realize what poor decisions resulted in Ice Cream Kitty. Instead, their mistakes are practically justified by the script, since Ice Cream Kitty was able to be a secret weapon to help defeat the Rat King.

But Ice Cream Kitty is not Metalhead. She shouldn't be treated as a weapon or a cool toy, but as a living creature who must now be responsibly cared for. She's not the typical mutant, being partially based on ice cream makes her more vulnerable.

We don't know what would happen if she melted, would she die? What if only parts of her dribbled out and get left behind? Does she regenerate everything? Does she feel pain when she melts? Is her intelligence or motor skills diminished in any way when a part of her melts?

Metalhead can, has, and will be rebuilt if/when he is damaged in a fight. Ice Cream Kitty can not be healed so easily. Until and unless she is restored to her normal self, her quality of life has been lessened the same way Kirby, Timothy, and others were harmed by their mutants. But they at least were able to make more conscious choices that led to their mutations.

Timothy KNEW what he was doing was dangerous. Bradford kept attacking Mikey even though his balance was precarious. Kirby chose to protect April from the mutagen, even though it meant being splashed himself. Even the human who became Spider-Bytez made a choice to reach for his phone instead of heading to safety. All the cat knew was that it was hungry, and there was food nearby. It had no way of knowing that food was tainted.

To everyone who implies that I just blame Mikey, oh no. My post made specific mention of the bad call April made (bringing a stray cat to the lair) Donatello's part (the mutagen) and Mikey's part (the ice cream, not being fully attentive to the cat's needs.)

I'm pretty disgusted with the actions of all 3 of them. The disappointment in Mikey goes a little further because he had previously been portrayed as the animal-lover and was the caretaker of Klunk (a cute non mutant cat) in other incarnations.

Yes, I remember the comic where Klunk dies after getting hit by a car. That's tragic, and Mikey actually does attempt to save the poor dying animal's life, almost resorting to black magic to bring Klunk back. Mikey accepts Klunk's death in the comic and so did I, because it was presented in a somber manner not played up as a comedic element.

So yes, I'm still a fan of TMNT overall. BUT there were some things in Nick TMNT that didn't sit well with me (just as I'm sure most fans are not 100% satisfied with every story in every version of TMNT), and this event was my personal breaking point. I'm not saying that other people can't watch it and continue to enjoy it, just that I won't. Nobody has to agree with me on any of this, it's only my opinion.

I'll still kick around on the forums from time to time, but I can't tune in to the new episodes. I tried to be more rational and 'get over it' but looking at Ice Cream Kitty makes me feel physically sick.

(As a recovering anorexic, combining favorite domestic animal with a food I haven't eaten in over 10 years due to the caloric content of such treats, it's a double whammy of anxiety. I don't even really like seeing the turtles eat pizza but I've conditioned myself to accept that because it's ALWAYS been something they do. I don't think I can train myself to view Ice Cream Kitty as a regular TMNT feature. Thinking of her is too disheartening.)
