Strange thing though. In the horse world, we have horses and ponies, but then we have the cousins like donkeys and asses. Now donkeys/asses can be mated to ponies/horses, and create offspring, but the offspring is sterile. |

Man, this thread is just plain strange.... Why would anyone want to play match maker with the turtles!? I don't even want to think about what Donnie and April do in their spair time... And what would April have to go through in order for that to all work out? Can you explain this Shark Blade?

I highly doubt Donnie and April are going to have a kid. I mean right now their relationship is too young. April has two guys she likes, she loves them both and if she loses one it will effect her deeply.
With Donnie, he can't provide her an ideal life. I mean the guy lives in a sewer for crying out loud. But he has a family that has willingly accepted April as one of their own. And even though they don't have much to offer, what they have still feels like enough. The only way he can provide her a proper home is if they find some empty house in the middle of nowhere outside the city and convert that into a home. And children they would have to find and house abandoned children. Heck they can even start an orphanage for abandoned mutant children... ![]() Casey on the other hands it's unknown if April can have children with him. After all even though she is for all intents and purposes a human, she isn't really a human. She's an alien/human hybrid. Mirage April it was revealed that no matter how many times she boinked Casey she couldn't get pregnant because she was a living Drawing. Here it's still up in the air. But unlike Donatello, Casey can provide April a normal life. A home in the city, a place among humans and society. |

Box turtles do have a. At apace more akin to tortoises then turtles, so I'd imagine they would have as much trouble as a tortoise to flip themselves over compared to other turtles like Red-Eared Sliders, who can easily flip themselves around.

I dunno, interspecies relationships don't seem that taboo - just look at Mass Effect (Femshep can romance with Garrus), Star Trek, Stargate and Farscape have depicted interspecies relationships before and there's even that lesbian couple in Doctor Who. IMO, it seems kinda sad that the turtles don't/shouldn't have any romance options on earth. While they share DNA with a terrapin which is outwardly obvious, they're still capable of consenting and comprehending relationships.
Regarding the whole reproduction thing, I doubt they'd be able to produce viable offspring; their DNA is just too different. I could see Donnie adopting a kid with his human partner somewhere down the line, though. (It doesn't have to be April) That being said, this would have to be in a world where they're accepted by humanity and allowed to walk the surface. |

Wow. This is an interesting discussion. My opinion is that there are many pros as well as cons for the Turtles having any kind of relationship outside of friendship with a human. Does that mean it's totally impossible? Not really, but they do have to proceed with caution. Don and April probably could have a relationship seeing as how she's already immersed in their world, but as for kids, I'm honestly not sure. It just depends on which route people want to go with it.

I subscribe to the theory that mutated turtles are sterile due to their exposure to mutagen, just like exposure to radiation can kill the reproductive capabilities of a human.
Also, two different species generally cannot produce offspring regardless. This is why cats and dogs can't have babies, people. [To say nothing of the fact that humans are not reptiles and that the two species produce children in radically different ways.]

I've been thinking about that as well, reptiles are sensitive to radiation. I remember way back in elementary school, we saw a documentary about radiation and its effect on crocodiles, making the males sterile from birth/hatching due to mutations.

Yeah. It doesn't help that their DNA is irregular due to said mutation and that I personally can't consider biological reproduction a possibility with them.
