that's one of the biggest issues I have with this. they look like left over action figure concepts from back in the day which in itself I think says a lot about how they view these characters. Its like they're over accessorized toys covered in a lot of useless junk instead of skilled formidable warriors. I seriously don't know how anybody can say this movie looks dark in tone with them looking like that

YEah right like they didn't work hard on them at all SMH. I dont care if its your opinion your being a jerk.

im positive there was lots of thought put into every aspect of these turtles designs just because you dont agree doesn't make it any less true

Leo defined samurai look using Shin guards and armor with NYC buttons and belts and strapp All the way down to his Tsuba on his sword little detail loads of work.

Mikey from his Surfer wet suit pants two his converse shoes and little accessories yup never thought through,

Even donnie who might be over baring still has load of small tiny detail

Speaking of the Foot soldiers machine guns... Does anybody else think that the turtles will have bullet proof shells? Especially after seeing Raph crash into that Humvee.

Yep, I agree. It feels like the old Jim Lee turtles (which I hated). I love Jim Lee's art (from the 90's as well as today) but those designs were ridiculous and didn't fit in with the turtles at all. And it all just seems so unneccessary. I don't mind the fact that their faces are ugly. Yes, the nostrils and lips look odd to me... but I can live with all that (trying to make them look more realistic, etc). However, the stuff they are wearing just looks awful, like some weird "alternate concept" line of action figures.

And before the fans of this movie decide to try to rip into me, I'm not insulting anyone and I'm not adding flames to the fire....I'm simply stating my opinions. I don't fault those that think this looks great. I respect your opinions. However, in my opinion these do look ridiculous....

Sam... you stated "The creature designer which you're dissing the crap out of, happens to be a member on these boards". Do we all know who that is? And more importantly, would he be willing to discuss his design choices, etc?

They did in Blue Door, and that's the basis for this film, so probably...

point him out sam because id really like to talk to him. maybe he could shed some light on some things for me about his work. I didn't say they didn't work hard on crafting the details but I don't believe much though went in to what the turtles do vs what they'll be wearing while doing it. id love to know the reasoning behind putting sun glasses on a character who lives underground and primarily comes out at night. or weighting down what's supposed to be an agile ninja with so much tech. its things like this that make the design look superficial to me and I don't think I'm being insulting by questioning it.

What...?

Anyway, there's a hint of a point somewhere... drawings/paintings will always look better/cooler then realistic CGI-renders that has to be incorporated and interact with regular humans n' stuff. I'm sure that if concept art/marquettes of the PD turtles had just been fan art posted on DA the wast majority would praise them. The leap from a still image to (realistic) moving, talking 3D is a notoriously difficult one. Many designs would struggle with that leap, so I find it kind of unfair to compare the PD turtles to drawings and paintings, no matter how skillfully they are executed. Chances are they would face much of the same criticism as the PD turts if their fate was to end up in this movie.

I'm hoping that he only uses the sunglasses for the day scenes. Which would actually make sense since he's used to the dark.

They don't fall off or brake when he crashes into the hummer so my guess is that they are made of metal and are stapled to his skull.

The more I thought about it, the more I'm okay with bullet resistant shells. Turtle shells can withstand quite a bit (2300 lbs of pressure from a crocodile's jaw was unable to break/crack a turtle's shell in one example I found. Photos were kind of funny). I just think it should be able to deflect at angles and leave chips and scratches on the shell.

Or maybe we're all wrong and the humvee is really made of fiberglass.

On another note, Donnie's must be rigged up the same way Raph's are. His don't move a beat while he's sliding down that snow mountain.

you can find him im not going to single him out so you can patronize him, as far as i know he will not be able to say anything till after the movie is released

But he does seem bummed out people are tearing the designs apart, IM seriously shocked My self people would be so flippantly aggressive about the looks
