Yes! Such subtle changes make such a huge difference. I could get on board with something like this.

You're... actually making him more and more similar to the PD turtles. Give him a bit more of that classic triangle shaped head and you've kind of created a a cross between PD Raph and Leo!

I've said this before and I'll say it again: When you compare the new live action turtles from the trailers with still images of art work, the art will in most cases win with it's advantages of being a more or less stylized still image and not having to relate to anything else (real humans, movement, emoting etc.) I see many posting art work going "They should have looked like this!" and I'm thinking "That would have gotten equally/more complaints then what we got!"

I'm curious what artists thought possess is when they omit the shell bridges connecting the plastron and carapace, and then make the plastron shaped to mimic a human's torso with scutes not only looking like breast plates, but acites made to look like a nice six-pack abs.

Does the ribcage sink I to the skin and then out again, as a inner bridge, or is the carapace just like a huge bone backpack connected to their skin like a giant fingernail, and the plastron just hangs there on their chest... It makes no frisking sense, which says a lot when it's TMNT.

Also, butt-ugly. Beak isn't pronounced as much as I feel it should and the lips need to go the hell away. Sheep's final edit looks slightly better, but the nostrils seem too big for my taste. There's something else that's bugging me too but I can't quite put my finger on it.

It's not bad... the trimmed-down the lower-legs make him look at bit sleeker, but I must say I think the head looks weird and way too humanoid in shape. The PD turtles actually look better to me personally, they have more of the classic head shape present. I think if they lost a lot of the cluttered attire they tossed on them and just shrinked them a tiny tad, they would look much better.

HOWEVER, I'd be a bit careful with editing other peoples art, not everyone is enthusiastic about getting their hard work nit-picked and edited on fan forums, which personally I find understandable.

they look like twigs. anthropomorphs that have spent over a decade doing constant martial arts training should have more muscle than those twigs. flexibility is about muscle and athleticism, and these turts dont look half as strong as the 2k3 ones
Oh yeah I forgot that for some people even teenagers should look like steroids propaganda (I'm looking at you, 2014 movie). And where exactly did you want them to grow muscles? In the plastron? Or maybe they should have much bigger arms so between that, the shell on their backs and the plastron on ther abdomens they could have a very hard time moving them.
Ever heard about a guy named Bruce Lee? Great martial artist, constantly training for years? Guess what? he wasn't very muscular, some may even call him skinny.
And like I said before, 2012 turtles has the closest body proportions to the original Eastman-Laird work.

Quote:
actually it looks stupid as hell and i hate it lmao
You HATE how Leo carries his swords comic style in a much more practical way than crossed over his shell? So you basically know better than the creators of the turtles themselves...Okay...

Quote:
did you conveniently forget 2k3 leo had ptsd he was not ****ing perfect

he was overly critical of himself, forgot that the world didnt revolve around him, made a dumb and almost joined forces with the shredder, and had some control issues
And that made him the best fighter of the bunch, the more complex and interesting, the one who grew more as a whole of the four, the one who awakened the dragon spirit first, and the one who didn't receive a special weapon in the ninja tribunal because he didn't need it... And at the end he overcame his flaws.

Quote:
2k12 raph's voice does not suit him at all so whatever merits the actor's performance or delivery may have fall flat

the accent was a great addition to his character and i hated to see him lose it
Why the hell would one of 4 brothers that were equally raised by the same guy in the exactly same place had a completely different accent than his brothers? And you were complaining about the 2012 turtles having slightly different builds and heights as "trying too hard"? and don't forget about the strikingly different skin colors of 2003.
I'm glad he lost the unexplicable accent and the stupid "you're in the hood" pseudo tough guy mannerisms.
Sean Astin is doing a great job with the sarcastic/angry personality of Raph.

Quote:
what the hell are you even talking about

when was "being funny" mikey's one and only purpose

he is the turtle that takes it easy because he would much rather see the good in any situation and remain upbeat. he's the aang of the turtles. jokes are just a PART of his character they aren't the entire thing

also 2k12 mikey isnt v funny at least 2k3 mikey felt much more like a teenager rather than a 12 year old
Michelangelo was always the crowd pleaser. The one who tried too hard to seem cool and funny based in the limited to the US late 80's-early 90's surfer lingo and dumb jokes. 2003 Mikey with his obsession with limited edition action figures and comics didn't really feel like a cool teenager; he simply was too nerdy.
2012 Mikey is much more realistic and universal with his wandering mind and kid naiveness. Besides he's more versatile when fighting.

Quote:
1: flashy fighting is not always practical and in donnie's case the excessive spinning is really annoying and its lazily animated a good deal of the time anyway

2: why the hell does don need to be flashy in any way shape or form this is more of 2k12's butchering of his character and making him completely unrecognisable
When using a Bo you're supposed to use circular movements and pokes unlike most Donnies incarnations that used it more like a baseball bat.
Unrecognisable? 2003 Don was unrecognisable from his 80's version. 2012 Don keeps his caring for people from 2003.

Quote:
i dont even wanna bother with the rest of that post since no1curr about fight scenes to that detail; the fight scenes in each series reflect its theme and they're all fine as is as far as i'm concerned
Yeah let's not bother each other anymore with this conversation. You hate a lot of things just based in your opinion and not in facts, which is a very limited way to see the world, besides being too contradictory. There's no consistency in your arguments besides that you simply like more the 2003 show. I'm guessing you grew up with that one? is that it? nostalgia?
Get over it. Enjoy the new show. And let's avoid doing off topic, or better I'll unsubscribe from this one, I have better things to do than arguing with people about how they hate things without real reasons.

I always took Raph having a different accent as him spending more time on the surface than his brothers causing him to speak more like a common New Yorker. After all, he is the outcast of the group.

Speaking of that, for the new movie, I wonder if they will give Raph his accent? I have noticed you can hear a slight hint of it when he yells, "Donnie!", in the trailer, but still kinda hard to tell.

For that he must've spend a lot of time on the surface speaking with people while growing up... And he isn't and outcast, at least not by his family.

The accent thing was never really neccesary. They never made him talk like that in the comics... nor does it explain why Leo and Don don't have that accent as well (assuming Mikey would still keep the surfer accent). They were all born and raised in New York.. why is only one of them speaking like a New Yorker?

i agree with you that the 2k14 turts are lookin real dumb with the over-the-top musculature

since you mention the shells i just wanted to say that 2k12 turts have some really thin shells that dont look like they can protect them from anything also having a lot of muscle mass doesnt restrict movement dumbass

yes i have heard of him actually; ive watched fight scenes from his movies a whooooole lot growing up, my dad is a huge fan of his, and you are very right about all of those things. but have you ever SEEN him? he had some impressive musculature. the 2k3 turtles didnt look over-muscled to me idk what your problem is. youre acting like they were sporting some goku guns or some ****

yes i do hate that. i dont like it in the comics either. does this mean i know what is better? no. did i ever say that? lmao, no, i did not. however, having them crossed over his shell has the benefit that he can unsheathe both swords at once with them like that [which he does plenty of in the versions where the swords are crossed]. you cant unsheathe both swords at once if theyre both located on the same side of your shell. thats why i think it looks stupid.

of course, i am arguing a point that is faulty at its core anyway since dual-wielding katana/ninjato is a dumbshit thing to do in the first place but its exactly what leonardo does. they werent made for that purpose. samurai had two swords of varying lengths because a shorter one was better-suited to close-quarters combat, not so they could have one in each hand. but this fault is present in every single incarnation of leonardo to date, so it really doesnt matter. if he were to wield his swords in a more practical style, guess where they would be located? not across the ****ing shell at all.

yes, 2k3 does have the flaw of giving leonardo more spotlight and character development than the other turtles and this isnt fair. but youre claiming it makes him perfect when he is far from it. however i will give you points for calling 2k3 leonardo interesting. a lot of people call him boring, since he has the most balance of character traits aside from maybe donatello. not as many extremes are present in his characterisation, which makes it a little difficult to pin down what hes actually like, and it makes him seem dull.

youre completely forgetting that leonardo isnt the best fighter of the turtles at all, though. he just has the most dedication to his training and is the obvious teachers pet; early on he is still shown to not know how to do a split kick and couldnt pull off the technique until he used it in an actual fight. michelangelo has the most raw talent and potential [he just slacks off because he can get good at something really quickly], donatello learns the fastest and has more resourcefulness than all of them combined, and raphael is the most physically powerful with what i consider the most versatile weapon.

youre still forgetting that he almost made a dumb and joined forces with the goddamn shredder. leonardo has a lot of misguided ideas and he needs his brothers to keep him from making stupid decisions when it really matters. again, he has control issues. he has moments where he thinks because hes the leader, he can do no wrong.

if you think overcoming your flaws are things youre not supposed to do, you cannot possibly have a very good grasp on what good writing actually is. heroes overcome their flaws. leonardo had his ptsd, michelangelo had to his lazyness, raph had his temper, and donatello had to deal with same as it never was which tested his ability to come up with a battle plan in a very short period of time as well as overcoming his own over-protective tendencies during the battle nexus.

Quote:

because hes being raised in new york where people have new york accents. ive seen this explained in a lot of various ways, with raphael's accent being natural and his brothers either putting on an accent for attention [mikey] or controlling their accents consciously [leonardo and donatello]; i've also seen it explained the other way round where raphael adopted the accent to sound tougher. but either way you're forgetting that mikey has basically always had an accent too. it's not absent from 2k12.

2k12 still has the different skin tones. having vastly different voices has always been present with the tmnt, which is something you seem to be forgetting, and it's different than physical appearances because it's realistic for people to all sound different. that argument has faulty logic.

also, i think the mannerisms suit raph really well. he wants to be a tough guy, so he is going to try and sound like one. i don't see the problem with this.

just because he has always been the crowd pleaser doesn't mean that's all his character is meant to be or all it ever should be. his accent and slang usage include lingo and jokes that are exclusive to the states because... and this may come to you as a shock, but... he lives in new york.

yes, 2k3 mikey liked comic books and action figures and whatnot. what is the problem with this. that it's "nerdy"? why is that a problem? these are perfectly fine and healthy interests to have, but not only are they not his only interests, but they aren't even a large part of his character. you're completely misunderstanding his character on a fundamental level, so here, let me lay it out for you:

michelangelo is a pretty classic case of youngest child, regardless of whether not he actually IS the youngest as turtle ages are ambiguous. he comes across as the youngest since he tries very hard to gain acknowledgement and praise, but once he gets it, he calms down and moves to another subject or goal. living with three other brothers who all specialize in something, michelangelo developed a tendency towards attention-seeking because he doesn't know how else to distinguish himself, but this doesn't cause him any undue stress or self-esteem issues because he is an optimist at heart and enjoys life. combine these ideals together and it makes a lot of sense that he has idols in the form of comic book heroes. he wants validation and he wants to be recognised for the good he and his brothers do, so he latches onto superheroes. if this dream could be realised, he and his brothers could enjoy life topside without having to hide.

he is lively, energetic, and feels that every situation has a good side so he tries to communicate what he thinks this good side is. when he tells jokes, he is trying to liven up the mood, but you have to be perceptive of your surroundings in order to tell them effectively [which i feel that, for the most part, he is good at doing]. michelangelo knows his brothers better than anyone else, as demonstrated when he kicked raph's shell easily during the battle nexus despite not being as skilled [arguably]. he is able to repeatedly goad don into building whatever he wants don to build, because he knows how don works and how to get something out of him. when leo has his issues with ptsd, mikey is the first to realise what leo is going through and nobody is surprised. because he isn't just a joke, he is insightful and his brothers damn well know this. this is very absent from 2k12, where is treated as a joke and never taken seriously at all.

Niten Ichi-Ryu is an actual sword school that specializes in dual wielding. Now, real life dual wielding of Nihonto is a longsword (katana) and a short sword (wakishazi). This have "always" been represented wrong in TMNT history as Leo usually wears a pair of katana, and sometimes the katana is even depicted as straight bladed swords instead of a curved blade. But, it's easier to draw a sword with a straight blade then a curved.

In the Nick cartoon, they finally give Leonardo the right sword combination as he uses a katana and a wakishazi.

Edit: Just as an add-on, here's some schools that also have dual wield techniques.

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu
Tatsumi Ryu
Shingyoto Ryu
Suio Ryu

as an example, here's the the first kata from TSKSR

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu have about 4 different kata using two swords, as far as I know.

Edit 2: As for storing swords on someone's back. This is mostly fiction (at least the way it's presented), as it is hard to draw any sword from your back compared to the hip, especially using a katana.
The instances of factual real-life back carrying swordsmen are few, and usually used for transportation. I know of only one instance where swordsmen have their swords crossed over the back, the Thai warriors of the Ayutthaya (sp?) period.

Truthfully, like you stated, it doesn't matter how they're held on the back. Get a katana. Or get a straight bladed "ninjato" if you like. Slap that sucker on your back either way and try to draw it. Your dagblasted arms aren't long enough to go straight up far enough to properly draw it from the scabbard. Unless the scabbard is designed with a slit down the side for the blade to slip free from, I suppose.

Leo, despite cover art which is just meant to look awesome, also fought with only one sword at a time A LOT in the comics. He didn't actually dual wield all the time.

I've read speculation that realistically a ninja dual wielding would more logically have used two wakizashi, possibly even wakizashi stored in a katana's scabbard to hide the quickness of the draw's capability and have the opponent misjudge capabilities.

Also, like you said, that would kind of makes sense as a shorter sword is more appropriate for two handed fighting PLUS better for fighting in close quarters. There's a reason the longsword was replaced by the cutlass for pirates/privateers.

A dynamic I feel is often overlooked. Leo/Raph dynamic is the most obvious - Raph NEEDS Leo to put him in his place from time to time, Leo NEEDS Raph to challenge his decisions from time to time. Their different personalities counter-balance one another.

I like how the Northampton arc in IDW had a little bit of interaction with the different brothers and how Leo/Don have actually been shown through the series to have some personality conflicts with Leo's being more spiritual against Don's scientific basis.

They did? They still look to be the same length to me.

Though sometimes they're longer, sometimes they're shorter. Honestly it's less authenticity and more about what looks good for the scene.

And, again. It's not just the clothes, but the whole design. And I am not only talking about the faces, so relax.

No, one of the main offenders for me, is the lack of turtle-y features. They have shells, sure. but the plastron looks more like a thick hide over their hunky man-abs rather then an actual plastron. The Carapace do not make me think of a turtle, or more closer a terrapin. A Box Turtle maybe, but that's because the shells of a Box Turtle is shaped more akin to a tortoise.

Their limbs are not very reminiscent of a turtle. Now, several incarnations lacks this as well mind you, but. With the current cartoon having such a nice sense of details, I feel it's a shame the movie don't do it either. A turtle's limbs usually are smaller at the shoulder/hip and widens at the paws, same does the Nick designs, and some of the IDW designs and early Mirage.

Spoiler:

For me, the PD Turtles looks like generic Reptilians then specific Bipedal Turtles.

And then comes the clothes on-top of these issues, and their faces, and their weapons.

Though sometimes they're longer, sometimes they're shorter. Honestly it's less authenticity and more about what looks good for the scene.
One of the swords are shorter, personally. I think it could be shorter, but it is noticeable shorter, on both on-screen and in toy form.
