However, I see where this is all coming from. Size. They are huge. I don't think everyone's real problem is 'Raph smash'. It's that, when we see this big turtle size, we think of Hulk. We see him hit ONE DUDE with the back of his hand, and we see that comparison of Hulk. And because we haven't seen any martial arts yet, we blame the film of being 'Raph smash'. Isn't that a reach? It is at least for now, since we've hardly seen anything. And I don't think everyone's true problem is the Humvee being smashed, it's more the fact that, again, they are huge. Which I get. But let's complain about what we truly want to complain about. And let's not draw a lot of conclusions either. We haven't seen 'Raph smash', at least I believe. We can't say there will be no martial arts in the film, since all we see in the trailers are a few flips and a cut of Donnie fighting the Foot (from behind). Also, we can't confirm there WILL be martial arts in the film, even if we do see them doing some flips in the trailer, Donnie fighting the Foot, and we've seen a few glimpses of some behind the scene stuff that has led us to believe what we believe. We don't want a cut and paste movie here, guys. No one does. Even the negative people. If we saw the EXACT same fight sequences, heard the EXACT same lines, saw the EXACT same events as past TMNT cartoons, movies, comics, etc, then it would be the most boring thing ever. They were trying to make this movie different, and the way they tried to do that was to make things very, very different. As in, change a lot (for better or for worse). They don't want to be a copy of versions in the past, and I'm glad they didn't. (However, they could've easily made a great film with more traditional TMNT elements.) The reason we haven't seen Raph slam into a Humvee before and put a dent into it is because, in past versions, they haven't been this big. Also, there isn't a lot of snow on huge vast hills in New York. And, usually, there aren't armored cars chasing the turtles sliding down their backs during the certain snow scene because THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. If we are just sticking to what has happened before, if we just want to be copies of the past, nothing would ever go anywhere. If we aren't up for change, any change, and are always asking ourselves when something has previously happened, we'll never be content with what we get. Ever. Quote:
Quote:
And, Peter Laird, the co-creator behind the TMNT movie, approved of this. And guess what? I think it's a cool, interesting story that I'll be happy to read someday! Because I'm not allergic to change, and I'll be open to seeing something new, even if it isn't what I prefer the most. We can't just be critical of this new movie for change in things like size, just because it was 'changed'. Yes, we can dislike it, but I'm not sure we can put changes like size change down as negative while being positive about similar things in other versions of the turtles. Quote:
I just want to say I have nothing against anyone that I'm replying to, even if I may be passionate. It's late. Sorry if I may have offended anyone, or came off as angry, and I'm really not trying to start any arguments, even though I felt like I had to say something and touch on this subject.

But, that was a what if scenario. And, when Raph hulked out after being bitten by Vampires, he was first just a rage monster. And when he got his mind set right, he was still a lumbering giant, had to make adjustments for his big bulky size. |

Maybe the bricks were old? Did you not see how high that tower was? If we're gonna nit pick like this we can go ALLL DAYYY LONGG on other superhero films including the untouchable Marvel franchises lol. Quote:

1. He's right and Leo breaks bricks by landing in one scene and then they can flip and move silently with no impact upon landing in others so they can be ninja. Just internal inconsistency (something I've ripped Man of Steel apart for) if one scene their weight has this much affect on their surroundings and in others they don't. 2. He's wrong and all scenes will have such effect, in which case, how are they silent and stealthy ninja? You noted the equation. If they are stealthy in some and not in others, because Leo didn't want to be stealthy in that scene, then we're also suggesting they can alter physics to suit their desire for stealth. I dunno. I just don't expect the look of them to lend itself to traditional silence and stealth you think of with ninjas. But then, it's a Hollywood brain-dead action flick. I don't expect a lot of internal consistency and remotely any logic. Michael Bay specifically? Bad Boys II taught me to not expect rational plot. Hollywood as a whole? They made A Good Day to Die Hard. Damn youse, Hollywood.... Oh, and if you think nobody criticizes the original films, you're crazy. Secret of the Ooze and III get a lot of flak, even if the original largely gets defense. Rotten Tomatoes shows the decline of general public opinion on them as well. Then again, the Transformers films are all fairly rotten on there, but the International box office LOOOOVES them. Though TMNT doesn't have giant robots, so we'll see if mutants are loved internationally as much as hot cars and robots.

It would be awesome if this was the case. Everywhere they go they leave foot prints in concrete. They rip doors off the hinges just by opening them and then destroy the frame by walking through. April invites them to her apartment and they smash all her furniture.

The fact that this is the kind of **** that people are upset about with this movie is incredible. Who cares, it is a ****ing movie about mutant turtles. Just let it entertain you. If you can't get past this kind of thing in a movie, then I don't understand how you can be a fan of this genre in the first place. This is just far too nit-picky. |

As a comment on the brick breaking jump from Leo. I think it would have been less of an issue, had the Turtles had a more traditional size to them, and considering the things we've seen in the trailers: Leo cracking some brick from landing, Raph impacting a Humvee and punts a Foot off-screen.
it piles up, from several small red dots to a big blinking warning light |

that's the problem I have with it anyway. when taken altogether it implies the turtles have some super solider attributes and that's something I don't want to see from them

Nice insults, though, Internet tough guy. Quote:
For the moment, I'm talking hypothetical, but my point is I expect internal consistency within the film. If Raph's shell can damage a humvee like it does, I wouldn't expect them being struck in the shell by a baseball bat to even phase them, nor any other blunt weapon swung by a human. If they go with Blue Door influence and their shells are bullet resistant, I question how much damage other weapons could do to the shell as well. If Leo's weight is enough that it damages brick upon landing, I expect the same principle applied throughout a film. If Raph can backhand a human off like they were nothing, I don't expect him to struggle against a human in combat. And these may all remain consistent throughout the film, we don't know. It's just hypothetical examples.

Plus weren't there folks being thrown back & around like they were Rag Dolls (subway or docks stuff) in the promotional material? If so, wouldn't that also further enhance that 'super strength' factor? And if people bring up 'well, the older films had folks being thrown like that'...these are the same people that do say that the original films were more cartoony than realistic. But the same people keep bringing up that this film is supposed to be 'a more realistic approach'. The same people who say 'well, the reason they look like they do is because it'd be More Realistic for them to look that way'. So if you are going to bring up that realistic card, then the only Realistic Way people will be thrown around like they were Rag Dolls is if the Turtles have Much More Enhanced Strength. To me, that would be boring. And if that's the case, then it begs the question...why wouldn't combat be nothing but an Easy Breeze for these Turtles in this movie? Which again, to me that would make it Boring, not Exciting. |

I suddenly came to think... In the toy pictures we see that Raph has a huge crack running down the back of his shell, and in the trailer it appears that he has pieces of scrap metal in a cross attached to his shell... I'm wondering if this can actually imply that Raph indeed bit over more then he could chew in that snow-escape scene and perhaps Don had to do some improvised first-aid to at least try preventing it from getting worse until they can get to safety?
Just me randomly putting things together based on very little here, but I'm interested in knowing how and if (big if here) any of this connects in the actual film. |

Turtle shells can handle a lot of pressure, but they can still crack or get pierced. It's not unlikely Raph gets majorly injured with the humvee impact.
Cause remember. One of the more effective methods of braking a turtle's shell is gravity. Just ask turtle meat hungry birds of prey. |

I think a lot of the concern for size is the Turtles got amped up to "superhero" status...but the Foot are still just normal humans. It's hard to have them be a threat if they're just some guy going up against the newly huge Turtles.

And when I watch a Turtles film, I'm not looking for 'superhero' stuff. I never thought of them nor ever wanted them to be amped up to 'superhero' status. To me, that would make it more boring. Not exciting. I'm sorry, that is not what I look for in a Ninja Turtles film. Just because it's different doesn't mean (to me) that it's Good. The Turtles don't Need that. I just don't see what would be Exciting for them to be like that... Maybe because I prefer films like Enter the Dragon as opposed to The Avengers (which I don't mind, but I like Enter the Dragon much more). |
