Yea I gotta admit as much as I love hearing Rob Paulsen portray Donnie these days, the way he's being depicted as a creeper just doesn't sit right with me. I also don't care much for certain moments where he points out some random fact we really didn't need to hear like how frost is produced.

If doing something else the Red-Eared Sliders, I'd probably chosen something like a Diamondback or maybe a Smiling Terrapin, whose are totes cute, and "ninja" in color

Or maybe as Japanese Pond Turtles.

Any species that has at least three hexagonal shell plates on the central parts of their shell, since all TMNTs have been portrayed with that shape. For the live action version, tortises since its difficult to film underwater in these versions due to numerous issues and they all seem more realistic since tortises tend to be larger. For all other verisons, I'd prefer seawater over freshwater since the NYC sewers tend to be too salty for freshwater turtles to survive well. But if I'd choose a definitive species, it would be the Red-Eared Slider. With a greenish yellow shell, a hexagonal pattern, green head, and a red stripe behind the eyes (akin to Raphael/Mirage Turtles), its likely the most accurate turtle species that has gotten mutated.

Did you ever had a turtle? They are freaking disgusting...
What's your real name, Burne Thompson?

Seriously, box turtles, if I recall, have a rather round upper shell, while our heroes tend to be flatter in all incarnations I've seen. And the video I found shows red-eared sliders as being agile (able to right themselves from being on their backs), so that would be my choice too.

Yeah, Nick Donnie is not even in character. All the other Donnies were pretty sweet, IIRC.

I would pick tortoises cause i like them more.

Don would be a Brown Tortoise cause his toy was brown.

Mike would be an Elongated Tortoise cause they have cute light colored faces.

Raph would be a redfoot tortoise cause.... they are red?

And Leo would be a Herman's Tortoise cause those tortoise are boring like him.

Wasn't it just Murphy who decided they were red-eared sliders? In Archie? And then in Tales Vol. 2? I'm not sure if anyone particularly official ever agreed with him... but the baby turtles never look like red-eared sliders.

Whaa? I thought Nick Donnie is the best version ever.

He doesn’t act like a doormat when being pressed by his brothers all the time. He yelled “Meathead!” at Raph and told Leo to “Be QUIET!” (when he’s disarming an alien bomb).

He can get ruthless and serious.

And he’s capable of sass, even with the people that he fancies.

He also makes the most adorable faces.

And his loud rants are always entertaining to watch. He's not all quiet and can be easily walked all over.

But on topic, yeah red eared slider...

Oh man. You just remind me what potential this show has to offer, or what it could have, if they take this show's another direction and focus on character development with characters that are able to have more then one emotion.

I hate him for exact same reasons that you love him
This is probably the worst version of Donnie (For me)

He's a dork, not a nerd, a dork.

Whenever he yells i get reminded of Jar Jar and he is just as annoying

He is waaaaay to competent, yeah other donnies where to but they at least tried to give some explanation, here he can hack into alien technology, build robots and million of other stuff without any problem.

I hate his design to, he's tall and missing a tooth because he's a nerd, get it?

Subtelty, what's that? Kids don't need to know what subtelty is in fact that's one of the bigest problems with the show it takes characters traits and HYPERCHARGES them....

But he's like that in nearly all of the other mediums. His brain has always been overpowered. The only thing that wasn't was mirage.

Also in IDW they are sea turtles...
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5gfGQOfJc_...%2Bturtles.jpg
If those were sea turtles, would you kindly explain why they are in a freshwater turtle terrarium? With almost NO water? Wrong. Baby sea turtles enter the ocean immediately after hatching. (The ones that make it into the water, that is.) They do NOT ever come back out, except for females laying eggs. They are not suited to moving on land AT ALL. Too slow, limbs not adapted for it, etc. Their shells aren't even large enough to pull their heads or limbs inside. The TMNT have ALWAYS been depicted as having this ability. They are clearly a freshwater species- and as others have noted, they are most often (and originally) depicted as RES.

That image confused me at first, until I realized that it was simply a very stylized artistic vision of young turtles doing turtle stuff. It's the artist's rendition of turtles, done in a very simple and minimalist style. (Plus, turtle feet are probably harder to draw than what the artist wanted to deal with, so he just made them look like flippers.)

I don't know about Archie Comics, but the turtles where depicted as RES in the first movie.

Or it's intentionaly ambigious? Maybe they didn't want us to know so they meshed couple of species together...
