I'm hoping Snow Piercer is released in my area, been wanting to see that movie since the first trailer debuted almost a year ago. But for some reason, whenever Chris Evans is in an independent type movie, like Puncture, it don't seem to get released around here.

Every analyst everywhere would like a word with you regarding how it's widely thought that the advanced release and negative reviews of Amazing Spider-Man 2 did indeed have an negative effect on the US premiere.

The notion of "no such thing as bad publicity" doesn't mean "anything conceivable benefits from negative press." Scathing reviews sway general movie goers. They aren't going to see a badly reviewed film when a praised film is also in theaters.

There's apparently 2 trailers TMNT has released but haven't put online anywhere. Their marketing team is really irritating. It's like they don't want to show off what they're showing off. What're they waiting for, the week of release to put out trailers on the internet!? Grrrrr

Someone buy Jay & Silent Bob a ticket to go kick the marketing team's butts....

Agree to dissagree I guess. I mean, I gave a movie to back my statement wich is all facts and you gave a movie to back your statement. However its all in the eyes of the beholder. I will say this and this does not speak for the general public by no means, but there were so many people ive talked to that just wasnt feeling the amazing spiderman. Most people who dont follow comics but try and follow these types of movies didnt even realize asm was a different comic from spiderman with a bit of a different storyline and thought hollywood was trying to reboot spiderman way to early and I would haveto explain that it wasnt really a reboot. Anyway you say itwas because of the neggative reviews people didnt go see it....fair enough....but then how do you explain the devil inside with way worse reviews then spiderman ever had and the turnout it made. Regardless, and this isnt a snarky comment towards you, but I personally dont give a damn about good or bad reviews. If I see a movie that looks good to me I will go see it regardless of what others say about it, because lets face it, its their opinion on it and not nessecerily what my opinion would be. Same as good reviews on a movie I didnt want to see. I wont spend money to go see something that doesnt appeal to me just because everyone else says how good it is....maybe I would just catch it on video or wait for a good quality torrent, just saying. On a personal level and im only speaking for myself, I think its really stupid to not see something that appeals to you because someone else said it wasnt good. Someone once told me that greenbeans were nasty and I wouldnt like them.....had I listened, I wouldnt have my favorite side dish for dinner.

But...Amazing Spider-Man really was a reboot. It took some elements from Ultimate Spider-Man comic, sure, but the movie itself was indeed a reboot of the film franchise.

I'll agree on too soon as well. I think they could have carried on without revisiting the origin story, but at least doing so gave us proper webshooters.

Oh I'm not saying the reviews were the sole reason, only that analysts say the advance screenings and negative reviews ahead of release are expected to have had an impact.

As for The Devil Inside? Genre. Next to no horror movies since Hitchcock get positive critical reviews. You'd be hard pressed to find more than a handful that made a great haul at the box office AND had positive response from critics.

Oh, I definitely agree with you. Just...a lot of people don't do the same as you and I apparently do and they DO make decisions from reviews on whether or not to spend the money on a ticket vs Netflix later.

I was hanging out with a friend the other night who is not a comic booky/nerd guy whatsoever, and really not much of a movie guy at all. He obviously knows about the upcoming TMNT movie, if for no other reason than because we are friends and he knows I love TMNT, and have talked to him about the new movie. But being that it is such a hot topic on this forum, I thought I would ask him if he's heard of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He hadn't, didn't even recognize the title. I described some of it to him from the trailer, still didn't ring a bell. I thought that was interesting, considering how so many here think that GOTG has TMNT dominated in the marketing dept.

Perhaps.. just a theory.. the marketing team knows that the TMNT name is going to do a lot of the heavy lifting for this movie. A good trailer on TV 3-4 weeks ahead of release might be all they really need.

I know I am basing it off of one person, but I would consider him a very average person. There are probably many like him who have no clue what GOTG is. When doing battle with the TMNT nostalgia factor, I really think it is going to have a hard time. Yes, people who are really into movies, who are seeking out info on upcoming released, they have heard about GOTG and have seen what they've put out so far. But really, the average movie-goer is not and never will seek that out, but the day that the first TMNT trailer dropped, it spread like wildfire.

This marketing team isn't catering to the next level TMNT/movie fans like us. But they aren't hurting their chances at winning the GOTG vs TMNT battle in August, in my opinion. The average movie-goer is the one who makes up the vast majority, we are a small minority.

Thumbs down

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit...news/?a=102371 If you click over to the Empire article, you get a weird quote from James Gunn who takes a subtle stab at Michael Bay:

"There's a lot of strange stuff in the movie," says Gunn in our feature. "But that's the thing that makes it different. For cinema to remain relevant, you really need to not make every film seem like it's Transformers 18 and to try to make things that are a little bit different."

that seriously makes me dislike him, i mean was that really necessary? my feeilings towards GOTG was changing too, i was actually getting really hyped for it! just the thought of seeing Thanos, makes me excited.

When you're talking about the elephant in the room, you talk about the elephant in the room. Transformers is a massive franchise, but from a creative perspective, they are pretty interchangeable. I've had plenty of discussions where my friends didn't remember which movie had what happen.

I wouldn't take it as a slight against Bay so much as a statement towards Hollywood as a whole. They get a working forumla and they'll stick to it.

In a totally off the record candid discussion, it wouldn't shock me at all if one were to learn that even Bay's hands get tied by the studio for Transformers from time to time.

TMNT hasn't really show me anything that i can look forward to, but i am still gonna go see it at some point

Edit: That is a lie...i like the Kanji added to the masks..but thats about it

how is that out of spite?
Please I've read the anti-movie people post since this movie got announced and the complaints just sound like whining internet nerd stuff. As for Guardians despite Marvel pumping trailers and ads there's nothing interesting about this movie to me.

Marvel has been very smart on GOTG marketing. They've been pushing Rocket Raccoon pretty well, going as far as giving him his own book (coming out next Wed.). They realized the mascot possibility of the character and are quickly pushing him out into pop-culture. He's not there yet, but the fanbase for a previously unknown character is quickly growing.

And they've been clever on the acting talent. Say what you want about Vin Diesel, but he knows how to turn basic grunting and limited lines into emotion (Iron Giant). So to cast him as Groot was wise. It's not much, but it's enough to have me thinking GOTG is going to be worth seeing in the theater.

I'm a far bigger fan of the Turtles, but I'm way more excited for GOTG than the new TMNT film. I know Eastman at Heroes Con said the new film is going to be OK, but even his word isn't enough reassurance on it. He even said Bay isn't likely to ever win awards for his type of movies, but TMNT is still going to be alright. And I know that what he was saying was that he feels Bay makes fun movies, if not "good", but in a way he admitted Bay isn't known for quality. Not to put words in the man's mouth (kind of did though, don't judge me too harshly).

I would be incredibly surprised if TMNT outsold GOTG in Aug. If anything outsold GOTG in Aug. really.

Could you quote word for word on what Eastman said? I don't really remember that part of the interview.

No, I don't remember it that well either. I mean, I was there for the panel and was paying attention, but damn all if I could quote the man. At best I could paraphrase, as I already did. And I haven't watched any interview he did while there. Now, I do recall a fellow with with a nice camera and beard (so he sort of looked official) talking to Eastman off to the side before the panel started. I'm guessing that's the interview you are referring to?

Well I did find an Q&A Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sllMA7BPN5Q

Is this what you were referring too when he talked about the movie?

At 15:15 of that video is where he starts to say the bit about Bay I was talking about.

Before the Q & A part of the panel, which is all that video shows, Eastman went through his history with the turtles with a slide show depicting the actual locations ideas came from and the such. Basically, a nice little bit of insider history of the creation of and continued success of the Turtles.

He then showed a trailer for the '14 movie and talked a bit about it. Looking back, it does seem like he was doing a little promotion of the new movie. Which is fine, he still did the fan thing going through the history and answering questions.

I enjoyed it, glad I didn't spend another day in his line though (regardless of how badly I wanted to try to get more signed by him).

If he did say something along those lines, it's a fair assessment. Bay films aren't going to win awards except MAYBE a shot at special effects.

There's nothing wrong with that. Summer blockbusters aren't really what the powers that be are looking for with the Oscars and Academy Awards and what not.

You can make a career on fun movies that won't win awards but will be enjoyed and be quite successful.
