What is IDW then? Unlike Archie which was based on a cartoon universe, IDW was intended to be the new "main" continuity.

Doesn't help matters that Mirage only gets a new issue once every 3-5 years whenever PL decides to release a new issue of Volume 4.

I'd go further and say there's been several comic reboots.

Mirage, Archie, DreamWeave, and now both at IDW.
Sure Archie and DreamWeave are based on the cartoon properties (OT and 2k3 respectively), but those aren't continuations of the previous comic line.

I like a lot of stuff, but other two HUGE fandoms in my life are Batman and Dragonball. If I wasn't into TMNT, it would definitely be between the two of those depending on whether I was in the mood for something dark and realistic or something bright and over-the-top.

Sorry for the double-post, everyone.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that a comic based on a cartoon is a "reboot." Nobody ever called any comics based on Batman: The Animated Series or Batman Beyond "reboots." A reboot is something like The New 52 as opposed to something like Earth One.

As for IDW, that's a huge gray area for me if you wanna get super technical, but in casual speech I might use the word "reboot" even though I usually just refer to it as "IDW's TMNT comic" or "IDW TMNT" when differentiating it from its predecessors.

Its funny how you can't have two #1 fandoms. Like if you have a main one the others become "secondary" or "side" fandoms, like we don't have time for equal support to both.

I dunno, Turtles and WoW are both pretty much equal to me. Been WoW since I started it in 2010 and come back to the Turtles last year after a long time away, but all get their share of attention. My two WoW mains and Leo consist of most of my fave fictional people.

I suppose maybe it helps that I can't really have a huge WoW memorabilia collection since it's my own characters that matter to me most, so I guess there is a plus that there isn't a fight for what little display space I have to offer.

Not sure why I'm surprised at how many Japanese properties are at the top of so many peoples' fandom lists. I was never much for anime or manga (is the word japanimation still in use?). Franchises like Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Bakugon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Voltron, Power Rangers, etc have such massive followings but I could never get into it for some reason. I do love my Battle of the Planets based on Gatchaman, however, so hopefully that gives me some street cred.

Anime actually comes from the french word "animation" and is used to refer to any kind of animation in Japan, regardless of its origin. So yes, The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. are "anime" in Japan. In the West the word is used to separate it from western animation series that get labeled as "cartoons".

I mostly use the word "anime" online. If I happen to talk to someone in real life who is not into anime, I'll just use the term "japanese animation" or "japanese cartoons" since they usually don't seem to recognize the term "anime". Anyway, either term is better than "oh those cartoons from China or something like that"

TMNT and Star Wars have always been 1A and 1B for me. Without TMNT it would probably bump X-Men up my list.

at the time my love for tmnt was forming, if it hadn't been there, i woulda gravitated directly to nintendo, which i actually did and still do. it woulda just gotten all the attention that the turtles got. as a teen, star wars became a main thing for me and actually still is, though not as much as in my teen years.

still kinda go hard on all three of these tho.

In regards to Star Wars do you mean you followed all the expanded universe comics, or are you strictly talking about the movies?

Masters of the Universe. As all of the He-Man merchandise dried up, and re-runs of the show were getting less frequent, I descended into a childhood funk; a funk that was cured by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If the turtles had never mutated, I would be on He-man.org right now, complaining about the 2002 series.

No comics just EU novels in addition to the movies. The only SW comic I've read was a recently released Darth Maul series that takes place after S5 of Clone Wars. I'll probably start following the comics once Marvel takes over and it becomes canon.

Stephen King. Or rather his work. I mean, I love TMNT and King pretty much equal, so if there were no turtles then it would definitely be that...

Followed closely by Doctor Who and Alien/Aliens...

For me this is easy because, as others have mentioned, I also have something tied with my favorite things of all time. The two are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Sonic the Hedgehog. So without TMNT I probably would have been even more of a Sonic fan, which is hard to believe.

I'm a fan of Sonic through all of the '90's SEGA games of Sonic. Preferring the Genesis games the most. And why it is able to equal my TMNT following is because of the Archie Comics which are still going strong. My favorite two characters of all time are Raphael (TMNT) and Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic). It would be really hard to imagine life without Raph and all of the other TMNT characters though. I'm just glad I don't have to.
