I guess it probably will be true...but still would be interesting to know what leads up to that and if this is only for "laughs", why have April play with Donnie's heart in such a way? Everything else she's done regarding him has been pretty innocent...that isn't.

I've mentioned this pic already and people have concluded that it is likely this scene is real. It's been mentioned the season would end on a Cliff hanger, so the last episodes could be a two one part episodes and one two parter, or two two part episodes. The first story will center around the Turtles entering Dimention X with the Turtle Mech and defeating the Kraang's plan of invasion, maybe getting Leatherhead out of Dimention X and such. Second one will have the Shredder revealing the Turtle's to the public of New York, during which Leo will be severely injured and the Turtles are forced to evacuate the City with the help of Kirby & April. Or maybe Filler Story where Irma follows Casey and April and discovers the Turtles. Leo becomes a hardass because of their failures to help Karai, and wants to take down the Shredder once and for all. Other Turtles are reluctant on following them, and Splinter also tells Leonardo that vengeance could only bring more loss. Leonardo foolishly goes out on his own and is over powered by the Foot Clan. Instead of killing him, he is severely beaten and thrown in the dungeon knowing the other Turtles and Splinter will come to rescue him. And then they would really know the meaning of suffering. The Turtle's rescue Leo and take him back to the lair not knowing a tracking device was planted on their transport. hour long special Turtles take Turtle Mech and go take out the Kraang. When they come out they find the Shredder at the lair driving the Turtles outside where they are discovered and nearly captured by the people of New York. Turtles with/without Splinter have to evacuate the city with the help of Kirby. |

If you look at the last one, Donnie has those hearts all around his head, but they disappear, and then his face of awe turns into a face of sorrow. I think that is showing that they may not be meant for each other, and Donnie is getting over her.
Here is some pure speculation. April now likes Donnie, but Donnie no longer likes her. April is sad, Casey comes and is all like "I feel for you April." And April then starts to like Casey more. I Don't know what Donnie would do though, I don't like the whole depressed turtles who's lives end horribly approach that happens all to often with these guys. So I hope he gets over her, and moves on, maybe he doesn't ever date and he is fine with that. Or maybe he becomes friends with Irma, and eventually likes her, and they live happily ever after. Personally though, I hope to see less romance in nick's TMNT. |

That's extremely contentious. It has given him another dimension besides just The Professor, and probably makes him more relatable to some viewers, but it's also ruling his thoughts too much at times.

the idea of Donnie growing from a crush is positive... but the execution so far has been negative. (at least to most people it seems)

I never noticed that heart thing before. It starts with five and as each panel continues it's one less. Maybe this will show that Donnie's feelings aren't as strong as they were in the beginning. Even in season 2 he calmed down a lot.

As the series has progressed he has calmed down and seems to accept that the wanting a relationship with April and actually being in a relationship with April are two different things. He loves April, but he doesn't want to lose her so he has backed up his feelings for April is just contents himself with just being her friend. That way if she chooses someone else he's still in her life. Now with Jones in the picture, both Donnie and Casey have an adversarial friendship. Rob Paulsen himself has described it as such. This means that yes they will each openly admit that the other is a good person to know. However when it comes to April, yes they both wish the other would just disappear. However the recent episodes have been building April and Casey's relationship and Donnie hasn't said or done anything about it. He's pretty much just standing off to the side and watched. So this scene yeah its interpreted as Donnie saying "I've accepted that you don't have an interest in me. I'm not going to chase you anymore." And April kissing him and saying "You're my Mutant." Is her saying "Don't give up on me just yet." The hearts yes it can be interpreted that Donnie feelings are not as strong as they once were. But I see it more as he is choosing to not jump to conclusions that things are going to be happy ending him regarding her. Every time April has hugged him, kissed him, or shown any sort of affection for him he has automatically jumped to the attitude that this is proof she likes him in return. However with the recent events of (in no particular order): (Possible) Nearly losing her to the Kraang/Foot again, Near death of Leo, Destruction of the lair, evacuating their childhood home, having to serve as a de facto leader while Leo is out of commission. He's has been forced to grow up quite a bit, and so he is beginning to feel that his infatuation is just a boyhood fantasy. So yeah, his feelings are still there. But they aren't as intense as they once were. |

But people are talking about it, and that's a positive. People have an opinion, that's a positive. Who are "to most people"? The people on here, we represent nothing to the people watching this show. I would go out a limb to say we represent .0001% of the audience. Far from "most people", plus there are a lot of kids (8-9 year olds. The majority of the audience) that I babysit who like the show, and based on what I've seen they like, the nay sayers are in the minority. Trust me there, they love it. |

I'm pretty sure most fans of the other incarnations would beg to differ on that since the execution of this April crush has actually made Donatello more of a one-dimensional character since it had been over-consuming his character (it's been dying down a bit now in the latest episodes), but if you value this crush that much, at least you're enjoying it. **shrug**

I don't think the crush makes him one-dimensional at all as it gives him more depth than just being the "smart one" of the bunch as he's been portrayed many other times. Sure, he can go overboard with it, but that's because he really doesn't know how to act around April or how that type of love really works.

That's why I think this April crush is making Nick Donnie more one-dimensional because it's leaning (even more so) his character on stereotypes here, especially in how character-consuming and extreme this crush was/is. Last edited by Refractive Reflections; 07-09-2014 at 01:22 PM. |

Well, that's your opinion. I think differently than you in terms of that. And it's more than him just being a nerd anyway as it's more about him being a mutant and not a human. I believe if he was human, April would see him as more and probably end up going out with him if she really wanted to, but as it is, she won't because he's not human. So that's the whole conumdrum to this thing. It has nothing to do with him being smart or whatever but has to do with him being a mutant and knowing that he may not have a chance with her. However, he doesn't want to give up the hope that she may think differently of him despite his appearance, and that's why he hasn't moved on yet from the crush, though it has been toned down.
Once again, just my opinion.

"Well uh thats just ur opinion!!!"
I disagree. Every other incarnation of Donatello had more depth than this one. Giving him this crush and revolving so much of his actions around it takes away from other things that make Don so interesting. There are SO many things to him that this show's writers either ignored or outright changed just so they could portray him as an angry nerd with a crush. That's disgusting.

People that say he has little to no depth should let the arc play through first so we can actually see what the depth and progression is. |

That statement would carry a lot more weight if this show would just get the shell on with the arc, instead of constantly killing time with MOTW episodes, and, to a lesser extent, trying to juggle two major arcs at once. In fact, even the episodes that could advance the crush aspect don't sometimes.
We keep coming back to this mutant elephant in the room; the show is paced horribly, and it's easy to see it as having very little depth when it screws around when getting to even basic points. Quote:

Just wanted to throw in my two cents about the whole Donatello/April thing. I don't think Donatello's crush on April has been detrimental to Donatello in the Nick series. Donatello in this series has other important (and more interesting) things going on with him like his determination to right the wrongs that have been caused by the mutagen to Timothy, Kirby and even Splinter. I wish more focus on for Donatello would be spent here. Plus, Donatello's nerdy personality quirks are done very well in the series which adds more humor to the character.
My personal main problem with the Donatello/April thing is that without April showing any (or much) reciprocation of her possible (if any) feelings for Donatello his crush on her becomes very close to verging into that uncomfortable Steve Urkel territory where the nerdy guy continues to pester the girl who has NO interest in him and it eventually becomes creepy and disturbing. Obviously Nick will never have the pair to allow a real Donatello/April pairing making the whole crush on April thing pointless. Plus, I HATE love/crush triangles since they are kind of cheap so while the Casey/Donatello/April thing is cute and fun right now it will get old and (again) creepy/disturbing. Thankfully there hasn't been too much focus on that like in the first season. |

I agree. First season the crush thing worried me because it felt like it was defining his character. Season 2 it's not overbearing. Donnie's crush doesn't even feel as obvious anymore, 'cept for when he comedically says or does something pertaining to April, like when he started dancing after April kissed him in the Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman or for a plot convenience like in Target April O'Neil.
