This is Kevin Eastman's variant cover to #36. Rat King looks different on Kevin's cover than the standard cover.

That cover is awesome. Looks like a hybrid of the original Rat King and a mutated Nick version

The "Dark Leo" cover seems to indicate we'll get a mental battle that will address the tension between Leo and Splinter. Obviously the brainwashing of City Fall put Leo through the ringer, but also when Leo and Splinter sat down in previous issues it seems there's a conflict of priorities. Leo wants to address the Technodrome, but Splinter wants to focus completely on the Foot. Both have points, and it's going to come to a head if

Spoiler:
The ending of Utrom Empire is any indication, defeating Krang may involve allying with the Foot temporarily.

Should be good!

So Rat King is used as a plot device to put behind any brainwashing effects that Leo may have held over it seems.

Shredder may be playing Krang to find out Krang's plan so he can counter it undetected as an ally in his cause in #38. Of course Krang would dispose of Shredder in the final stage of his ultimate plan anyway. We could see Shredder's faking an alliance and see how it unfolds over two arcs before the epic arc around #50. I wonder how Rat King might pay into that potential plot? I don't see him just sitting there on the sidelines unless hd were to rake advantage of the aftermath.

Just curious, but now that the Rat King has an identidy in one continuity, does anyone think the IODW rat king might be Dr. Victor Falco, as well? (With a diffrent backstory, obviously)

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

I'm not sure if they will do that or not, I am very curious to see how they handle it. If he will be more along the lines of the Mirage Version or the Nick version or a completely different IDW version.

I just hope they keep him around and make him a central character in the series that would be awesome

From his clothing style, I've got a guess that his past goes back to the feudal japan era.

From Santolouco's cover, I think the Rat King will make Splinter think, that Leo is turned dark again, and wants to kill him, while Leo will experience Splinter attacking him without a reason.

So has there been no previews for this issue? It's slated to release in 7 days.
