I heard a theory that they did it with Don because people thought he was gay since he wore a purple bandanna and THAT'S why they had to make it clear that he liked April.

So originally they were going to use Raph? Honestly, I couldn't picture either Nick Raph or Mikey with crushes at all for some reason, but if choosing, I could see Mikey having a crush before him on a human character. You know, thinking about it, I feel the same about the OT. Even there, I couldn't see Raph falling for a human....and Donny (he was very apathetic towards humans).

That aside, I noticed some complained about Donnie showing off to try and impress April...why is this a problem? That's normal when trying to get the attention of the person you like, and how is it any different from Leo doing so in front of Karai when they were still enemies and even later when they had become allies (recent eps)?

If you search hard enough, even in the forums that was considered. Apparently in Western society (especially American society), if you're a male introvert and not constantly trying to catch some tail in your adolescence and young adulthood, immediately one's sexuality is questioned. ...American pop culture has almost always promoted loud hypermasculinity.

Well they both have extroverted personalities, so that logic won't apply.

...But I will say if Leo wasn't interested in Karai/Lotus or have a prominent love interest in the franchise, I think more people would question his sexuality (being an introvert) more than question the sexuality of Raph or Mikey if they also had no prominent love interests either.

If anything, Raph is the gay one. He did pick up a fairy princess dress for Halloween after all (complete with wings and tiara crown), as can be seen from my gif signature.

It doesn't change anything, I still like the character.

For those who keep up with the whole Donnie x April stuff, do you know if it's popular in Japan too? I don't really frequent shipping sites so I have no idea. Since I've started watching a little bit of the Japanese version of the show, I'm curious how the Japanese fandom will react to Donnie x April/Leo x Karai. Will it be a mixed bag, like it seems to be here, will there be a lot of negative reactions, positive ones?

I never attributed Karai as masculine (why would anyone??).. Sure she's strong and an excellent fighter, but her figure and movement are pretty feminine. I mean have you checked her booty?

April is my favorite character. And she get’s alot of **** for being a bitch sometimes. People say she’s poorly written and unlikeable.

Honestly the fact that April can be a real bitch at times is half the reason I like her so much.

I am not a nice person, and I hate hate HATE it when people say ‘Oh, you should be nice to everyone always no matter what.’ **** that. You are not obligated to be nice to anyone, ever. You should be polite to people if they’ve given no reason not to be, but don’t expect me to a buckle of sunshine all the time for no reason, because I’ve got **** going on too. That’s my opinion. And that’s how I feel about April.

Her mom is dead, her dad got mutated, aliens are after her, the Foot clan was too for awhile there, she just found out she was a mutant, she’s frustrated because she doesn’t want other people to have to protect her.

Excuse her for not being as chipper as you’d like her to be.

She wants to be able to take care of herself, and she doesn’t want other people (the turtles) to have to put themselves in danger to keep her safe. But as hard as she’s trying, she’s a much better fighter now, but she’s still not nearly as good a fighter as everyone else for sheer reason of inexperience. That probably wouldn’t bother her so much if it wasn’t her that they were fighting for.

Remember back in season one, like the first/second episode, the turtles said they’d help her get her dad back, and she said thank you but “It’s not your fight.” Obviously, the Kraang plan for world domination has made it their fight by now, but April still kind of feels like she brought them into it.

Long story short, April wants to be about to protect herself. But she can’t. And other people are getting hurt because she’s not strong enough to fight off the kraang, the foot clan, the whoever is after her.

She’s incredibly frustrated, and being frustrated can manifest itself as her lashing out.

Donnie: “I’ll protect you, April!”

April: “Protect yourself!”

Casey: “I’ll handle this, sweetheart.”

April: “Sweetheart?” -angry face-

You know, that’s also one of the reasons I like Apritello so much too (besides the obvious fact that it’s just adorable). Donnie knows all that. He knows that April’s upset and how much **** she’s been through, and he sticks by her despite the fact that he can sometimes be the target of her lashing out. April’s apologized to him before, she knows when she goes too far.

I mean, ****, I think April is actually really nice all things considered. Look at Karai! Karai was jealous of April, SO SHE TRIED TO KILL HER and Karai never gets any ****. Everyone loves Karai. And after trying to kill her TWICE, April still listened to what she had to say when she wanted to talk. (I love Karai too, but c’mon, you guys gonna call out one and not the other?)

I get so annoyed with this fandom when it comes to April. First, it complains that April doesn’t have a personality, then bitches when she shows some emotion like a real person. How dare she react accordingly to what happens to her! What a bitch!

I feel like April being a bitch doesn’t make her a poorly written, unlikeable character, it makes her more realistic. She’s not unlikeable, she’s just not the kind of character you want her to be.

That’s how I feel and no one is going to convince me otherwise.
