If Venus show up in this movie or the sequel, how you will react?

I'm not exactly being all serious here, but really, just seems like Turtles fans would have a pretty large suspension of disbelief. I sometimes get the feeling a large part of all the Venus hate comes from it being the thing to do. "Everyone else is saying she's stupid, I better too."
Now, I have already said Venus was poorly executed in Next Mutation. But the idea, the idea of Venus ain't bad.

And that's really what is being asked here. There is the potential for Venus to be used in other TMNT series and be done well.

Having said all that, I've got no dog in this fight and I too would like to see the aforementioned meltdown if she was brought into other TMNT series.

Can't speak for all, but this ain't me. I think the entire idea of a 5th turtle mutated with the main 4 is dumb. I mean, I grew up with just the 4. Why add one out of the blue and then she has magic powers? Uhm, no. No thanks. She never fit to me. Her name isn't even an artist name. Idk, I really just never liked the idea.

Venus has potential and could actually be written to a well loved character, i have always said she just needs a second chance and team that wont just make her a mary sue romance option

Well it's not like Eastman and Laird were taking things seriously with the names. If it wasn't for those portraits of the renaissance masters in their "studio" who knows what they'd have been named. Plus, Splinter is a parody of Stick from DareDevil. Which really, the names are just one more detail that makes the Turtles a silly premise.

I really don't see the big deal about a 5th turtle. 5 is a good number, unless it's turtles? Seems like it's more of a nostalgia issue for some. Which is odd being that any series that adds or changes anything about the turtles doesn't add or change the series/interpretations that came before.

And you know what, I think she's goofy enough to fit in just fine.

I kind of agree with what Laird always said, that a big reason he was against it was, there was never any BETTER reason than, "You know how there were four turtles? Well, guess what... there's FIVE!" I mean, you can do it, but... why? I think there needs to be more reasoning than, "Why not?", but that's me.

Yeah, being a fearsome foursome is kind of part of their identity... A new comrade (like April, Nick Karai if she's saveable, etc) is one thing, but it's kind of weird to have another character show up and try to actually insert themselves within that dynamic among the four of them, it's just awkward.

And that reasoning of no better reason than why not? Why do a kids cartoon? Why not? Why do a live action movie? Why not? I mean, money, duh. How about why have all these other mutants?

Slash makes sense. In the Turtle's world they've proven to be capable, so wouldn't it stand to reason to make your own mutant turtle to fight them if they're your enemy? Fire with fire. And Slash ends up being an example of the greed for power and a weapon that blows back against his creators.. But what if instead of giving up after your first attempt you try again, but go about it in a slightly different way? Boom, there's a similar but fair way and reason to bring Venus in the mix. Heck, that's more or less Alopex. And that has worked. Alopex just isn't a turtle (obviously because she's a nod to Ninjara from the Archie series).

Or go with the idea that she was raised in Chinatown. And you could do a dark Leo sort of thing with her. Then there's the culture clash bit that can be played up if done right. She could be a better bare hands fighter than our favorite boys in green come a 1 on 1 fight. Magic doesn't have to be a part of her character.

The cartoon changed things from the comic and people are mostly fine with it. Everything from April being a reporter in a yellow jumpsuit to Bebop & Rocksteady to Baxter Stockman being white to Shredder & Krang being incompetent partners in evil/crime. The only people not OK with the changes? Diehard Mirage people. Every time there's a new interpretation, there's changes. And so far it's always come down to if things were done well. Next Mutation wasn't done so great so Venus mostly suffers from that.

Hell, I've been guilty of letting nostalgia sway my opinion. Not been too enthused about the new movie, but I'm starting to try look past the changes and decisions made for the movie. Not quite to the point I'll pay to see it, but the newer trailers are helping.

It's been 30 years and the Turtles themselves have mostly stayed unchanged in all that time. 4 turtle "brothers" raised by a rat "father" that fight evil ninja. In that way they are exactly like superheroes that haven't changed all that much. There's reason enough if no other to add another Turtle. Which almost happened with Kirby.

It's funny really. Thanks to all the hate and supposed "one who shall not be mentioned" status of Venus she's more known than Kirby. You mention Venus as a 5th turtle and someone usually makes mention of Kirby being the 1st 5th turtle... that never made it to print.

You know what, how about they bring both Kirby and Venus into things. And just to keep her from being a possible love interest, you have her and Kirby already a couple. That also keeps both of them from becoming a part of that 4 turtle dynamic. Instead they become allies that come in to help when needed. Which considering how out numbered they usually are, could be a lot.

Hmm... I seem to have gone on a bit long here, rambling almost. Basically there's a ton of ways to bring Venus in and make her work and be a great character. I feel like I could sit up all night coming up with scenarios for her. More ways and reasons for her than against.

But hey, feed the hate machine. It's something interesting to discuss.

Great ideas Jamie. I don't think nearly as many people would hate on a Venus reincarnation as long as they were assured that she wasn't there to be a love interest, and that she didn't have magic powers.

IMO, she has potential. Probably not in the hands of Bay, but hey - it's not like putting her in the sequels could make her hated any more than she already is, y'know?

i can buy this..ive always felt one of the main gripes people have with Venus is making her an official 5th member..but what she sided with slash and became a turtle "B" team
