Just as boy dolls are marketed towards boys...oh I'm sorry "action figures."
Look, if a marketing/toy company can't look at a property and find a good way to market it to all kids, then they're just plain crap at their job. Or maybe I'm wrong and that they're not in the business of making money.

I remember hearing a bunch of lego superheroines aimed directly at girls.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...inifigure-Form It's pretty cool collection set.

Well the little things themselves come with action sets so they are basically action figures.

I think partly now though the stores/companies have gotten so obsessive with color coding and gender labeling everything in the toy departments, you have to be a confident and open minded kid (and parent...) to step outside those pre-approved gender aisles. I WISH they'd stop doing that crap and stop acting like people are too stupid to recognize that some toys are more commonly aimed at one gender or another. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really need to have stores label it for me. Nor do I know any women who only had "girl toys" growing up, everyone had a mix of stuff. |

Look, I don't what to tell ya. Most little girls stubborn to try new things. If they want regular legos. That's great, but for stubborn girls, this is a gate way to get into superheroes like how Teen Titans was with characters like Star Fire and Raven.

The problem is girls and boys aren't buying their own toys. If you are a parent and you are taking your daughter to a 5-year old girl's birthday, you are probably going to go to the girl's toy aisle and buy the first pink thing you see because girl. Vice versa for boys.
I totally don't agree with it, but that's the way this kind of consumerism is. All I can do as a fan is be one of those girls who buys those nice revoltech figures. |

Wow, my cousin texted me on how she just watched the episode and thought some ofvthe things in it was really stupid and a glaring plot hole. She herself is a professional writer and she asks me why is she expected to believe that the medicine donnie gives leo doesnt harm him but yet she is expected to buy that the same exact stuff that leo ingested and then throws up can then magically mutate the ground, even though it didnt hurt leo. I just had to tell her that i dont know the answer myself.

Wow, so thanks to victory_angel, I was finally able to watch the episode! This was a nice birthday present to wake up to! Sucks I'm still in the hospital, but that has really made my day.
So just something I wanted to ask about...did anyone else think Legend of Zelda when the chickens attacked Mikey? Oh, and I'm glad Mikey is still weary of squirrels. I feel the fear is legit. The Squirrelnoids did nearly kill him. I loved the vibe of the episode. It,was creepy, weird, got a toned down version of the Bloodsucker storyline, loved the 1990 movie homage, as well as Mirage. Didn't care for the fact that April said that Mikey just goofed off, but maybe that was his way of dealing, and helping with the chores. I found that so adorable. The bad horror movie homages were funny too. I even felt there were a couple of Thriller ones, like Casey's howling and the Creep breaking into the cottage. I also liked when the Creep threw the pitchfork at Donnie's head, and for the record, I love the way Mikey talks. It sounds cool when he speaks it. Oh, I liked the jokes in this ep too. Like Donnie's what do to people do in the woods thing who like each other. Make out of course...and get killed in the process in these kinds of films. I also found it interesting that Donnie pointed out that they like each other...maybe indirectly. I loved the Thundarr the Barbarian spoof. They even have the Smoo thing! lol So "Thundarr" doesn't slap, he attacks first and maybe asks questions later. lol I wonder if them beating up the Slug people may be foreshadowing something. Mutants being attacked just because they're mutants. victory_angel put the notion in my head. I thought Bishop (with all of you theorizing on his showing up) and season 8 of the OT. Ok, Seth as Leo is definitely going to take some time to get used to, but I do feel it's somewhat suitable given the darker tone the show seems to be going for, but I do hope that he does change the pitch at times, like his voice is cracking or something like that. April improving didn't bother me. As Donnie and Raph pointed out, they're all frustrated in some way and have to channel it somewhere or in some way, and one way can be through training. This is why it didn't bother me. The only time April's fighting felt over powered (and Casey for that matter) was Target April O'Neal because both should've been slaughtered by those Footbots. The turtles are trained martial artists and they even had trouble with them. Now, the controversial stuff. Raph. I love how he watched over Leo (Mirage) and Leo was going to watch over him (1990 movie) and him overall. I also had no prob with him being a victim of The Creep (and I liked Mikey yelling at it when tied up). The only problem I had was the fact that Raph was caught without putting up a fight first. There should've been a fight between them and then Raph being overpowered. I was thinking about Fungus Humongus and how despite being scared, he was going to "splatter" the giant roach anyway. It just felt a bit off to me. Everything dealing with the mutagen in this ep was just weird. How does one become a plant? Will they ever explain how the mutagen was supposed to work in Leo's medicine and why in the world was he taking swigs of the stuff? Did Donnie test it? Did he bring along his microscope? Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next ep. Sounds like it'll be a funny episode. |

Mutants being attacked just because they're mutants. Ssjup and Victory Angel got me thinking that we might possibly see something along the lines of H.A.T.E. from 4kids/C.R.A.P. from the comics. It'd be interesting if Shredder was responsible for the movement this time. Although I can just as easily see Bishop at its helm. Shredder would make more sense because of his hatred for Splinter and the turtles, but he did say he had no compunction when it comes to betraying the human race. However it all shakes out, I got the feeling that the boys will be blamed for the whole Invasion in the end.

The whole "girls don't buy "boys toys"" thing is really dumb. Of course they buy them, or at least their parents do. Little kids don't care what gender their toys are aimed at. Growing up I knew girls who played with Transformers toys and they watched the G1 cartoon.
Sym-Bionic Titan got cancelled because they didn't make enough toys for it. I really wish we'd stop making cartoons purely to sell toys. It was a cool idea in the 80s and 90s, but it just seems foolish today seeing as we have so many amazing shows these days that don't need toys to thrive. And Sym-Bionic Titan was fantastic, it held up on its own. Quote:

I agree about the mutagen medicine and hope that Leo doesn't take that stuff anymore. It didn't even taste good either, and I can sympathize with that as I've had some pretty nasty medicines myself like Augmentin which tasted like coconut. Yuck!

I'm under the impression that he was taking the medicine not in the way Donnie prescribed it. He was taking swigs from the bottle.

Love many elements of this episode - particularly the stuff that nods back to Mirage Vol 1 and the Steve Barron film. I'm a real sucker for the homages to other incarnations so had a big grin on my face for a good deal of the first half of the episode.
Very confused though about Raphael turning into a leafy blob and then a... flower?? Baffled. It would have made much more sense to nod back to The River and have him revert back to a normal turtle when drained of mutagen, which would also support his reforming back to himself. Shall I mention the completely different cell structure of plant and reptile....? Probably shouldn't. If one were to think too much about these things and they could very quickly fall apart. I suppose my main issue with these rather disappointing Raphael episodes is that Sean Astin is such a phenomenal actor with so much talent and skill, and Raphael is a character with so much potential. It seems like they are wasting a massive opportunity for some really good material. I quite like Seth Green as Leo... he's just very different from Jason Biggs that it is going to take some getting used to. I really loved Biggs as Leo. |
