The only hints they gave about Irma was the cold didn't bother her and that Chinese ghost saw a power in her he didn't understand.

Exactly, and I still say they swapped her out for the real Irma. The reason that they didn't kidnap April right away this time was because they perfected the mutagen on their own and didn't need her anymore. Besides, I think they really wanted to do a full-scale invasion, and infiltrating the Turtles' Lair and having the Kraang come through it was pretty effective.

Ho Chan never said Irma isn't human, did he? Besides, he knocked Irma out when he did that "look directly at the eye thing" on her.

And may I suggest that you save those Irma questions for the NYCC 2014 Turtle panel?

And that she started asking more about April's "secret friends".

Asking about "secret friends" is not a sign you are not human.

No, she suddenly started asking more about them. I still feel she was replaced. Still doesn't make sense for her to have been one the entire time.

But the Kraang never gave a clear concrete reason as to why Nick April was needed so much (remember how important she was in "The Kraang Conspiracy" with the April clones and April derp?) or even if her importance was related to perfecting the mutagen. I could allow the storywriting having the invasion temporarily take more importance because of the timing, but the fact that Krang Sub-Prime was with April for a certain amount of time alone with her upon hindsight and didn't do anything to kidnap her (as easy as it was), deflates the suspense and importance the Kraang had about her (and the show has been building upon for nearly two seasons) without a valid reason. That's the frustration. The show introduces a new twist but doesn't address the concerns and suspense that it previously created within its own storywriting.

Edit: In this situation, this show went on and on about how important April is to the Kraang, creating the kidnapping subplot with Kirby O'Neil, how April had to reside in the sewers (and was able to miraculously go back to school) because the Kraang were searching for her, creating inferior April clones, having Metalhead protect April and fight off against Karai ("Target: April O' Neil"), and now we realize that one of her best friends that was with her was a Kraang, the Kraang didn't take that opportunity at all? Yeeaaah.... that clashes with its own suspense and storywriting.

yea...also they didn't even really need April cause they perfected the mutagen without her, so why did Kraang sub Prime even need to stalk her?

to help find the turtles?
why were the turtle's lair the key to start the invasion anyway?

Again, we don't even really know if April is (or was) important in relation to perfecting the mutagen. From my speculation, she seemed to be more important in terms of discovering and exploiting her mental powers genetically and exploring her resistance to Kraang water and/or mutagen since it could lead up to her having a powerful advantage against them. As for the whole Kraang Sub-Prime reveal situation, it seemed forced or shoehorned just to introduce the Southampton arc.

I'm guessing the Turtles' lair was key because the Kraang could easily flush out the Turtles and destroy their "base of operations", similarly to the Turtles defeating the Nick Technodrome in stopping the Kraang, to gain a better foothold in taking over New York City.

no...it said in kraang conspiracy that they needed her to perfect the mutagen.

ehh..I guess....but the invasion up top was pretty crazy....I think they could have started and get the the turtles later, I mean the whole city is getting mutated they probably would have found them faster if they just started and had their huge mutant army find them. (probably would have given Don less time to prepare his huge mecha)

I just don't feel like finding the turtles' lair should have stopped them from continuing their plans. (either way it was a surprise attack)

I guess I'll have to rewatch it . Hmm... I know the Kraang wanted to terraform the Earth using her DNA, but I was thinking more in terms of using it as a form of mind control over the mutants they created (so it would be easier to control their mutants), rather than in terms of stability of the mutating process. ...Well that kind of undermines April's importance even more than doesn't it? But who knows now...

With April having been such an easy picking though for Krang Sub-Prime though, and uncertainty if Irma was at any time an actual human at all or when there was the actual "switch", it still kind of begs the question as to why Krang Sub-Prime could have just kidnapped her nevertheless before the Kraang perfected the mutagen ("Into Dimension X!").

That could have worked too, but I was just giving a shot as to why.

Even if the Kraang managed to perfect the mutagen to the point that they no longer need April as a test subject, you'd think they'd want to take April out just because she knows too much. Unlike the Turtles, who risk a lot by doing so, April could go to the cops and blow the whistle on the Kraang--and because they already invaded, there wouldn't be the usual problem of skepticism. Granted, the Kraang are rather incompetent villains, but if they're going to call attention to the past with a rare serious portrayal, suspension of disbelief breaks.

I did the VO thing in San Diego this past summer and it was a WHOLE lot of fun.
Won't be making it to Times Square for the signing, there's Legend of Korra panel I want to see more.

But I will most likely be hitting up the "Turtle in Time" exhibit at some point. Probably Saturday?
Who knows?!

So I watched the particular scene with Kurtzman again (in "The Kraang Conspiracy") and he said her human DNA was needed to perfect the mutagen, but I guess since the Kraang already did that without her she's no longer needed. Yet with mental telepathy and psychokinesis occurring in the episode, I see where I assumed that aspect was the factor the Kraang wanted to integrate into perfecting the mutagen. On top of the development of April's resistance to the mutagen and Kraang water in other episodes. It was a mistake for me to assume that, but I thought the story would have led toward that direction since these mental powers and resistance to Kraang liquids (mutagen and water) are the thing that made April so unique from the other humans, since the Kraang have genetically tinkered around with humans in the past. Oh well...

Either way (whether the DNA of April's mental powers was a part of the perfecting or not), it still feels disappointing (since "Into Dimension X!" and "The Invasion" undermined her importance to the Kraang dramatically, which was built on for nearly two seasons, and in the story for thousands and thousands of years) and still creates a plot hole in terms of "Why couldn't Krang Sub-Prime...?" when the details over Irma's existence (whether there was ever a human version of her or not) is still hazy.

Wow. That recording session thing sounds awesome. Wish I could do that.

RR, maybe they didn't want KSP kidnapping April so quickly because they figured since he's impersonating one of her friends, it would be weird for the two of them to go missing so quickly without a trace. They figured it would be better to kidnap Irma (if there really IS an Irma which I still believe there is), have KSP impersonate her, and bide their time until the invasion with the infiltration of the Turtles' Lair. I get what you mean by the inconsistency of April being important, but they probably figured since they perfected the mutagen on their own, they probably didn't need her anymore and would probably wipe her out later anyway. That's the way I look at it.

I just thought of something. Do you think that Irma twist is one of the reasons why April is being a little tense in Within The Woods?

Or maybe the writers finally realized it's stupid to have one episode end with her traumatized and the next show her being just fine.
