But IDW already has Alopex, So maybe she can be a part of this new team.
I thought Ninjara was still owned by Murphy...

That's why although I'm intrigued by IDW's inclusion of Null in their universe, I don't think it'd make since for him to be a member of this mystical family, at least based on his backstory from Archie; IDW could change it to fit him in as part of their growing pantheon. It seems like Kitsune represents Japan (obviously), Rat King represents part of Europe, and Chi You represents China. I'm excited to see if North America, South America, and Africa get their own players in the game. You'd think we'd see the North American deity pretty soon, seeing as how Kitsune and Rat King have been stepped into his/her turf

And really I guess deity/demon is a question of perspective
The other, even simpler possibility is that they're all animal totems of some kind (fox, rat and ox thus far).

In which case I think it would be an interesting twist if Null were the one for humans (and thus hyper-corporate, focused on control of nature, etc.).

Hob has already referred to his group as the Mighty Mutant Animal Army.

I don't know man, I think we can knock out eqyptian gods

...

What I want to see is a story arc that almost reforms Hob and just takes it all away from him, like in the Kamen Rider Eternal movie

Have Hob be looking after a human (and of course being against it) but over the course of it, he grows attached to the person. And right when you think Hob has saved the human and changed his way. BAM! Something (another human) takes it away from Hob and drives Hob's hatred towards humans even worse

What about his original owner who genuinely loved him before her mom decided they could no longer care for him? That would work perfectly if it was her.

So then; the question now would be, what would happen to the boy to cement Hob's hatred

I remember playing with that toy making an episode infomercial where he tried to smuggle drugs to teenagers and the turtles stopped Sandstorm and the TMNT ending the message to a group of youth and Sandstorm Joe and to the pet farm and his partner Tatsu to jail.

Anyway, I like the idea of Scale Tail, another reptile mutant and see what the character could potentially do.

IDW Official Mutanimals reveal!

From IDW's fb:

Quote:
The Mutanimals Are Back In Action! - New TMNT Miniseries Spotlights The Fan-Favorite Team
San Diego, CA (November 11, 2014) – The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have faced down everything from demons to aliens, but starting in February 2015, a new team of mutated animals will take center stage as they face off against an even greater threat! Appearing in the monthly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, the Mutanimals have been questionable allies, and now all of their secrets will be revealed in the 4-issue miniseries TMNT: Mutanimals!
When someone close to the Mutanimals goes missing, the team consisting of Old Hob, Slash, Mondo Gecko, Herman the Hermit Crab, and Pigeon Pete will be put to the ultimate test. Teamwork doesn’t exactly come easy to these outsiders, but they’ll have to find a way to work together to take on a mysterious new entity known as The Null Group…
With a number of TMNT Micro-Series one-shots, and both The Utrom Empire and Turtles In Time miniseries already under his belt, Paul Allor will again handle the scripting on this series. Returning to the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be artist Andy Kuhn, who created the new IDW design for Mutanimals leader Slash and will handle covers and interiors, with Ben Bates providing a variant cover to the first issue.
"IDW and all the creators involved have done an amazing job introducing the Mutanimals into this universe,” said Allor. “It's very exciting to see them get their own mini-series, and an absolute honor to be the guy writing it, especially since it means working again with artist Andy Kuhn. Every TMNT tie-in and mini has offered the readers something new and awesome, and we hope to continue that streak on TMNT: Mutanimals."
“I'm super-stoked to be a part of the team that's bringing The Mutanimals back,” said Kuhn. “This year my Christmas is four months long!”
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series at IDW has garnered consistent acclaim for its exciting new takes on many aspects of the legendary TMNT universe. The Mutanimals starred in their own comic book series in the early ‘90s, and now they’re returning to action in this new adventure that ties in directly with the ongoing series!
Don’t miss out on the series that’s sure to have Turtles’ fans old and new clamoring for more! Pre-order with Diamond Code DEC140484.

So, they used the name Mutanimals, I was guessed against it, but at least they left the Mighty out. After all that sounds kinda silly, and they are not keeping several years of tradition like Marvel with a name like this, so they don't have to do it.
Otherwise, Mutanimals had mostly different members, so by choosing this name, there will be some pressure on them to introduce other characters like Ray Fillet, Wingnut, etc. I'm fine with that, but I hope they won't rush it. At this point, it actually makes sense storyline wise, to introduce new mutants in huge numbers, because Hob's goal is to expand his army, and he has every neccesary tool for that.
Well, maybe not, if this preview indicates that Lindsay is being kidnapped by Null, cuz he wants to clone Baphomet or something.

"when someone close to the Mutanimals goes missing..." — hmm, I wonder who this could be. Lindsey?

The blurb also refers to Slash as the leader, but I imagine that's a mix-up (or a spoilery foreshadowing of events to come???)

I think the Hob/Slash opposition is already foreshadowed, but I can be wrong... however, the story prev kinda states that the story will be about the Mutanimals having problems working with each other, then they will come together later (likely at to end), to finish their job. (yeah, it's a trope, but whatever)

You know what I'm the most suprised about? Seeing Null before Bishop in IDW. Well, except if he finally appears in 'Attack on Technodrome'.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to mean, actually. It's mostly about the execution, and Allor is a good writer, I'm sure it will be great. Utrom Empire is mostly about Krang getting struck by a lightning bolt, but it was still a great read, and you can surely don't look at the utrom prince after that as a one-sided character.

I'd doubt that, because the first time her and Hob met were in #39.

I actually suspect Hob and Alopex have met before, because of the knowledge Hob had of the Foot's plans during City Fall, when Shredder kidnapped and brainwashed Leo and Hob was able to tell Splinter where Leo would be. Either Alopex was already working against the Foot at that point and was passing information to Hob, or Hob simply did some damn good spying and was able to figure out all that himself.

I'm convinced though that Alopex will fall in with Hob and Slash's mutanimals, especially after she and Angel came to their aid at the end of #39

In any case, I'm super pumped for this mini-series. Should be a good one
