I'll agree that guy can be Casey - only IF Raph gets to kick his ass really hard upon meeting. In which case, Casey won't be in it long, not with this Raph...

why wouldnt arnett come back?
just because they cast casey doesnt mean "Vern" disappears... this is a Bay movie verse..the more people the better...who cares that the movie is called "Ninja Turtles" no one wants to see them right but all joking aside...really why would Arnett leave the franchise? has he said he wouldnt return? its an easy money maker for him i understand if say,,Woodburn,Pete or Fitchner walked,,,their roles where cut very heavely..or replaced in some way

I can't believe they will shoot the new film in a few months
So I presume they are working on the new script right now. We don't know yet if Liebesman will direct it. Maybe some news will come soon like new names in the cast (Casey Jones ? Bebop & Rocksteady ? Cudley the cowlick ?

There's photos of him in the lair during the raid and what looks like him engaging in some action at Sach's mountaintop retreat. The fact that they cut out that he's Casey Jones' cousin might suggest he's no longer necessary to introduce Casey if that is their plan so one might hope he's gone. That might sound harsh but as I've said before; there's no real issue having Vernon in a movie or having Will Arnett play him after all he really does look the part and I can imagine him playing Vernon as he was characterized in the cartoon he originated very well however the issue is with him being a main character. A cameo or a small role is fine but he was never a character that anyone cared about the fact that he took the place of Casey Jones make the whole thing even more baffling. Having both of them in the same Vern pretty redundant...then again next to the boomerang flinging robo-Shredder and steroid infused mutants might make Casey seem redundant also. You have to wonder (dread) what they plan to make Casey keep up in a fight. |

Unless the success of this movie taught them "who needs a script?"

So, to Paramount, they're sticking with what's working so far. |

Slim as it is it's my hope that the fact that it's "decent" and not the blockbuster Paramount originally hoped for might make them think twice about that. At very least order the same people to take a different approach which given the history of this movie they are capable of but admit that's a slim hope. |

It's a shame. I know it's pipe-dream stuff, but if they looked to the Mirage comics and hired the right people, they could have a Dark Knight Trilogy quality-level franchise on their hands here. But as long as they solely focus on the cartoon absurdity and don't look any deeper, and keep underestimating the property's potential, they'll never tap that vein.

IF they did focus on the cartoon absurdity and made a live-action version of the first 5 episodes.... that would have totally rocked.

Right on, Coola. The 80's cartoon can entertain me - the movie just bored the living bejesus out of me. I know that'll baffle some people but honestly - I was bored out of my mind watching this thing, because I didn't care about any of the characters or what was happening in their world.
Hence why I can't get as vitriolic about this thing as others do (though I do enjoy their snark Like Trick said - mediocre's really the best word to describe this sucker. I think what ticks people off the most is just the level of wasted potential here. There's little more infuriating than seeing a great idea poorly executed, and unfortunately, these were not the right people for the job. You don't need to make the Turtles bigger, badder, more bulletproof - people already think they're cool. Audiences need a POV character, but they don't go to the movies to see April. The folks behind this really didn't understand what makes this whole thing work as a concept, and what we ended up with was a movie where everything that could be done wrong was done wrong, and the guys basically ended up guest-starring in their own movie.

Oh no, I was bored as hell about 45 minutes into the movie. Before that I was laughing at how awful it was. After that, it was a legitimate chore to get through. By the end, I was pissed off and had a headache.
I even liveblogged it and at a certain point, my posts went from witty and sarcastic to drunk great uncle pissed off at his life choices. |

There's nothing wrong with silly. Silly's baked into the core of this property - that's the whole reason the comics worked, because they took a goofy concept and played it straight. You can do silly and serious, and balance the absurd stuff with actual stakes and emotional resonance. That's the sweet spot any good TMNT movie needs to hit. But, y'know... you need talented creators and actual vision for that. So.

To me TMNT is an alternative to Marvel & DC heroes so it's a nonsense to turn them like basic superheroes (save the city, save the girl...) They threw away the TMNT mythology (Oroku Saki, Hamato Yoshi...) and most of the japanese background, everything which bring some deepness and charm just to mimic the "already seen Marvel movie of the month". I'm sure they don't care of TMNT. For the producers, TMNT or Marvel is the same. Make a movie for kids, sell toys and merchandising for kids, Make sequels, Repeat.
