If it really is selling faster than Guardians, it annoys me that the special features aren't better (mind you, Guardians is pretty slim on extras too).

Seriously?
Hate to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if extras eventually go the way of the soundtrack and move to being available as individually priced downloads. Although...if we could just buy the extras we're interested in (and maybe more things available at later dates), it might not be a bad deal provided the disc price would be lower (yeah right). |

It's not selling more units than GOTG. It's selling more units in relation to its ticket sales which means nothing since GOTG had twice the ticket sales as TMNT.

True...but aside from TMNT (07) they were all made BEFORE people would think about the DVD/Blu Ray release and what to put on it.

A not insignificant number of people came out thinking it was one of the worst things they'd seen and even a lot that claimed to enjoy seem to think there's big faults there. Isn't having all this new stuff meaningless unless it's satisfying people? Also how long can it really go on. The Nick show is losing ratings but I doubt that will affect it much as it seem they're committed to pushing on but let's say 20% of people didn't like this movie and don't intend to see the sequel. (That's a low ball estimate) Then unless something happens to change their minds the sequel makes 20% less in a climate were sequels are expected to make more. Just look at The Amazing Spider-Man, a movie which TMNT 2014 blatantly rip offed. We had all the same rationalizations of strong international and home media sales and confirmation of a bunch of sequels and a spin off and look what's happening now. The sad part is the TMNT can't guest star in a Marvel movie as compensation. How much money is it really making though? Reading the article it makes it seem as it's on it's way to being the best selling movie released on DVD of 2014 but as people have pointed out there is a little distinction that it's the best selling in regards to movies that made a particular amount, in reality it's nowhere near the best selling. Food for thought but it's not in the top 10 best grossing movies this year and while that's not really surprising it did surprise me it wasn't Top 20 Pirated movies. That's how much people cared. |

Like or loathe the PD film, the fact that it is selling well shows (if nothing else) that there is still an appetite for TMNT on film, amongst a broader audience than just us hardcore fans.
We're a small bunch. We need buy-in from that broader audience to keep the property alive. As a group, I doubt we are profitable on our own. And that appetite will keep the property alive in years to come. Compare what we have now to that horrible time when Vol 4 was on permanent hiatus, Tales seemed to be very half-arsed, 2k3 had turned into Fast Forward and TMNT had tanked. It seemed the whole franchise was dying a slow and painful death. Whereas now, we have IDW which is excellent, we have Nick which is excellent, and we have a bankable cinematic property with more on the horizon. This is the growth phase of the cycle. It might not be perfect or in line with the visions of us fans, but it is far from dying and is paving the way for more opportunities for the franchise. And the more incarnations there are alive and kicking, the more chance there is that the fans will see something they like.

Just bringing this up here from your signature - because it's... vaguely on-topic, sort of? But:

If you're looking at North America only, it's lower - #166. And I believe all that's without adjusting for inflation, which would put it lower still.

It was a box office success it grossed $191,204,754 in North America and estimated $286,000,000 in other countries for a worldwide total of $477,204,754. becoming Nickelodeon Movies highest grossing film. it will make more money in japan when it's release on February 7. the film topped the home video sales charts in its first week and achieved the highest disc sales to theatrical tickets sales its first week in stores. it retained the top spot on the home video sales chart in its second weekend so I am very happy it's doing very good. best tmnt movie yet can't wait for tmnt 2 2016

I didn't say it wasn't. I'm just saying that it isn't "the 22nd highest grossing movie of ALL TIME" like that quote claims. That's just factually incorrect.

Nothing to celebrate. Just encourages more half-hearted "Efforts" aimed at the lowest common denominator like the last one.
Anything that encourages non-fans to look at and talk about TMNT fans as if they're simple is not something to be encouraged or celebrated. |

Trick, I actually wound up with a free dvd copy of the new movie by some fickle twist of fate. Part of me is almost tempted to send it to you, just to see what you do with it.

My guess? Re-enact the "clay pigeons" level from "Duck Hunt".
