No. Says the guy who lives in the real world. I don't even really care that much about Rayman's series, I've played 3 of his games and I liked them but they won't be making any of my top 10 lists or anything (I prefer stuff like DK/Mario/Zelda). All I care about is the truth, and not having some arrogant douche undermine the truth with his mental gymnastics. If you really need to hear the obvious, here it is:

First of all, let me prefix this with sales. I know sales aren't all that dictates what is iconic, but it gives us a good start to measure the comparison between Megaman and Snake and Rayman.
Rayman, invented 1995, 40 million sold.
Megaman, invented 1987, 30 million sold.
MGS, invented 1987, 36 million sold.

So that gives you a good idea where he stands with the general public.

The first game he was in, eponymously named, is still one of the most popular and successful games ever. It was heavily praised for its invigorating gameplay, as well as other areas it excelled in such as music and design. In fact, it was one of the first games (if not the first) to use music as part of the game beyond the superficial level. Rayman was so popular, that even at the time it was released, when the market was dominated by 3D gaming, it was still performing extraordinarily well. It is the best selling 2D game on the original PS by far, and one of the best selling games on the PS overall.

Shortly after, Rayman 2 was released. And although it was not a game that really created the 3D platforming era like Super Mario. It helped to shape the future of all 3D gaming in general. It was heavily commended for how it excelled in gameplay, design, music, graphics and controls. To put it into perspective, Rayman 2 was labelled "the most impressive feat of game design and execution the platforming genre has ever seen" by IGN. Rayman and Rayman 2 in particular have been so successful that they've been ported to nearly any console you can think of, and they both frequently populate "greatest of all time lists".

Additionally, there have been dozens of other Rayman games including Rayman 3, as well as many party games and a spin off series (more on that in a sec). Some successful, some not so much. Rayman's two most recent games, Origins and Legends have also received tremendous critical praise by fans and critics, becoming modern classics.

Rayman's Rabbid series has also been extremely successful in its own right. So much so that they have their own entire line of merchandise, a TV series that's still airing on Nick, and a feature film in production. As well as guest and cameo appearances in other video games.

Rayman as a character is one of few who have transcended the video game industry, becoming well known throughout other forms of popular culture, having all kinds of merchandise as well as a short lived TV series. His staying power was proven again yesterday with the fake leak, not even Mewtwo's real announcement gained that kind of publicity.

I'm sure none of that matters though, because clearly the character who got beat out by 25 others to appear in a crossover in his own company's fighting game, as well as another 25 to appear in PXZ, and hasn't had his own game in 5 years, yeah clearly he's WAY more iconic.

I'm not going to pretend Rayman is on the level of the likes of Mario, Pac-Man or Sonic, because he's not. But anyone saying he's not on the level of Megaman or Kurt Russ-uh Snake, is just fooling themselves. Of course, I'm sure General Douchebag will be in here in due course performing his mental gymnastics in 3..2..1..

You do realise it makes you look like the very toddler in your post when you change someone's quote or take their words out of context, right? Like I really don't care about your arguement either way. But you're making yourself look terrible and aren't going about it the right way.

He is right, a lot of characters/ games from Raymans era are dead or beyond help. Rayman has had 2 great, (and I mean GREAT), games released in the last couple years. They have sold well, so why not have Rayman in.

It's called giving the guy a taste of his own medicine. He's extremely disrespectful to other posters.

Man, I'm out. Nobody sane gives this much of a s**t about a fictional character. Nobody sane continues to bully one person and pretends to be the victim, either.

Rayman 3D was a complete snoozefest, which apparently was just a port of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Didn't pay mone for it, and I still feel ripped off.

Yeah, I think the fun is over. Dude is nuts. He's still only upset about Peanut when everyone else is giving him crap.

No one else was being disrespectful, at least not to that degree.

I'm also going to now excercise a quote that you made earlier:

My last counter to Anvils pointless tirade - Rabbids is not Rayman. Rabbids are more iconic than Rayman. This is a sad truth as someone who is a long time FAN of Rayman.

Either way, dude is clearly one of those nuts who sticks to a sad little script and can't diverge from it. I'm glad there's another brain wave here to give me a taste of my own medicine though. It's been...a month? I was getting worried.

Wrong:

And Rayman's sales figures are still over twice Rabbids individually, even if you disinclude the fact that he was in a lot of them. That little "tirade" wasn't so pointless when you asked for it lol.

I retire champion of the world. Man, I'm tired of being right.

You defend Rayman's legacy by bringing up the series that relegated him to second fiddle and got him shelved until Origins. The very series in which the title character was shoved so far out of frame that the supporting cast got their own series and cartoon. The Rabbids far and away outstripped Rayman's popularity IMMEDIATELY.

Are you European? It would certainly make more sense why you're going to bat for a C level mascot with so much malice. Certainly they liked the original Rayman over there far more than the rest of the world.

And most of this has almost nothing to do with the original point anymore. Mega Man and Snake are more iconic than Rayman and the fact that you'd even think to argue that point is insane to me.

The Rabbid series has only ever been second fiddle to Rayman, yes, it has branched out and become its own thing, and you could maybe refer to it now as a sister series, but it's in no way overshadowed Rayman, it's never garnered the kind of critical acclaim that the Rayman games have. It would be a reasonable comparison to compare it with Buffy and Angel.

I am European, English to be precise. Although that is pretty much irrelevant, as I couldn't care less where a character originates from. And if I did, and I wanted to be bias, I'd sure as hell be backing Banjo-Kazooie.

As iconic? Sure. More? Don't make me laugh. I'd possibly wager that if any of the three of them wasn't as iconic as the others, it'd be Snake.
