Sort of a random thought thread wise, but since I've mentioned it and the thought has been floated in these Mutanimals threads, I'll mention Mona Lisa as a potential added member, except I don't want Lindsey to become her. The character, admittedly for only one episode, was just totally different from her. Lindsey comes across as a bit put down by life and somewhat cynical. Mona was young, quick witted and positive. If she showed up, I'd actually like to see her created by Lindsey, and have them develop a sort of mother/daughter relationship. She'd be a youthful, positive outlook, the sort of personality that might mesh with Mondo.

Also, while we're doing amateur fanfic hour, I'd like Michelangelo to become temporary leader and for the team to be called the Mikey Mutanimals.

I am in support of both of these ideas: Mona Lisa and Mikey temporarily joining the Mutanimals.

There are no bad characters; just bad writers. Considering she had one appearance in all of TMNT, that's a pretty emphatic statement you've made. If IDW can improve upon the Mutanimals, they can improve upon a female lizard mutant.

This is an important point that I will argue about (not really)

But while I actually do think we're reaching critical mass in terms of having too many characters on the team, I sort of feel like one more female, with a slightly younger personality, along with Sally and Lindsey, might balance things out a bit. Not a huge deal, for the record.

Mona Lisa can be a great character is she's written well, Look at the other Mutanimals, They were written well in the issues.

The main thing with the name is that is screams "female TMNT member" like Venus de Milo did. Which makes sense considering she was meant to be a turtle. Regardless of Laird's thoughts on the matter, her not being a turtle does her a favor in making her unique and not just a female version of a male character.

Yeah I suspect the discussion of this character gets tiresome for some. I really ought to dump all my thoughts in some mega post and swear off talking about her until, you know, there's actually something to indicate she might show up. Heaven knows I get tired of the constant calls for Bishop.

That's a good point; a better name is needed. Or at least two more female works of art... what's the one of the woman on the giant seashell? Birth of somebody?

Alopex is already Raph's love interest, they're not going to introduce Mona Lisa. Its the same reason Ninjara won't show up.

Again, she was in one episode total and that's it. She's a pre-existing blank template that can be reused by the writers for whatever they want.

Now, arguing that there is already a lizard mutant (Mondo Gecko)... THAT'S a more compelling reason to not have her appear.

Unless they give her the coloration of Newtralizer, I wouldn't count on it.

Was she a salamander? It's been 15 or 20 years since I saw that episode... where did the reptile even come from? I just remember giant monster sea cucumbers or whatever.

Mondo Gecko is a...gecko, and Mona Lisa was a salamander. Same reason the Punk Frogs can show up because they're frogs.

You're right, two green lizards with tails are TOTALLY visually distinctive.

Although IDW did a very good job of modeling Mondo after a real lizard... I wonder if they modeled the Turtles after any particular turtles? They look like sea turtles in the flashbacks to Stockgen...

I would love some Punk Frogs up in here, though...

She was actually called a lizard in her action figure box but I think the webbed hands indicated amphibian to me. The episode itself never says. So it's a bit of willful choice on my part. It's actually not that huge a deal unless that gives her the ability to breath under water.

And yes, Mona's transformation was weird. She was mutated by a sub's nuclear backwash with no animal in sight. Very odd. I suppose that might reflect that she was a turtle in early drafts, maybe.
