I guess "damaged" was a poor word to use.

Not at all - long lasting damage after years of training and sparring is very plausible. I guess my point was that we should see more evidence of him being in pain after a hard fight.

That said, there was a great moment in Newtralised, when Slash knocked Raph down and when he got up, he adjusted his shell with a bit of a snap and didn't even wince, so maybe he's just impervious to it.
