I understand that, but it seems all we got was RPG DLC , if you don't count Ryu. Sakuri is just putting on what he likes. Not fan service.

I don't think there was even that strong support for cloud, and to put a character that is not even linked to Nintendo, seems odd. It also opens up endless possibilities. Like Ryo Hazuki for example, and I am not sure that is a good thing, or a bad thing

I think Nintendo should use thier own characters.

Support was low simply because I don't think anyone in their right mind thought it was plausible.

Looking at the direct, it definitely looks like they were setting this up, showing all the FF content and then leading into it.

Also, where are you getting at with 7 month wait? We won't be waiting that long for sure just by the fact that an actual trailer was released. He's already in the game, the data is already there, which is why there's no way he won the Smash Ballot, they were planning this for a while.

I'd be willing to guess Cloud will be made available before the end of the year.

Sorry, I think it's been 4 or 5 months since we had a character. Just kinda sucks if you ask me.

Cloud is a great choice, because it's SO left field. It's seriously some Goku/Shrek level bullsh*t that nobody EVER expected. In that insane fantasy fulfilment thing, it's perfect.

However, the reality of the situation...

1) Cloud is dumb
2) FFVII isn't even a good Final Fantasy (it's not even the best on the PS1)
3) He's yet another sword user
4) He's not from Rhythm Heaven
5) He's from an iconic Playstation game. Unless the FFVII remake is on the NX, this is gonna be EXTRA dumb in a few years. Worse than Snake ever was.
6) Cloud is dumb

That said, I'm just glad to get more stuff in Smash, regardless of what it is. We're getting our last Smash Direct in December and it bums me out. I don't want the Smash hype to end!!

Predictions for the last characters now:

- Inkling (Splatoon has been a huge success, no doubt Nintendo has suggested Sakurai add the Inkling, It'll most likely have the boy and girl variants)

- Wolf (likely always planned to return just as Lucas did, I wonder if he was originally planned to come out in November before Starfox was delayed)

- A DK character (either Dixie or King K. Rool, we won't get both though)

- New Zelda character maybe?

Other than that I can't think of much else, unless they do add an indie game character like Shovel Knight but I'd rather not. I guess we'll see in a month.

I think at this point, Shantae is a lock, Wolf is a lock.

Sora is definitely possible now with the Square deal going down, while the main K.H. games never appeared, all the second tier games appeared on either DS or 3DS. So it's not out of the realm of possibility. Although still unlikely, support was much stronger for Sora's inclusion because of the 3DS game ties made it feel like it could be done.

But I'll still hold out for a day where Banjo-Kazooie gets in... *Sighs*

I wouldn't dare say VII is a bad game, but yes, I preferred IX much more than VII.

I kinda think we will not see chacaters like Dixie Kong, in the DLC. It seems Sakuri is looking at it in his own way. Kinda wondering if we may get a few more "Region based" 3rd paty characters. Cloud would make sense for the Japan base, maybe Rayman for the EU, and some one from the US who is popular.

Don't get me wrong. I am happy to get any content for Smash, and the conetent is always done to such a high standard. I am going to give FF7 other play through now, but I still see Cloud as an odd choice, and at this point,

other option would be much more appreciated by the mass SSB fans.

He might very well have been a ballot winner in Japan. If you think about who Japanese fans voted for the most, its most likely various JRPG characters.

Most Americans beg for Ridley and King K. Rool, but Japan doesn't care about those characters.

No, there's no way he won the ballot. Keep in mind that when Mewtwo was announced, it was 6 months before his release date, his game trailer was revealed about a month before his announce date.

To have Cloud ready for with game data footage means production would have had to have started months before hand; the ballot box has barely been closed a month. It doesn't add up. Plus the fact they state it was clear Smash X FF VII tells me this was a planned release from the start.

Just the fact that it happened is the shocker.

Remember, there was a time Square flat out refused to allow Final Fantasy characters to appear in crossover style fighting games, and that was on the Playstation. Square still always said no.

The fact that Smash Bros. is the first to achieve this feat is a pretty huge victory on Nintendo's part.
