I'm a graphic design student, and will be doing graphic design as a career. I've found that drop shadows have been the big player in making some objects look 'complete'. The shadow creates a boost in dimension, though it's basically best to not use it in artwork. It's better to use it for text or vector shapes when designing logos, or anything similar. But to use it as a tried-and-true shadow isn't really the best idea.

But is it pointless? Absolutely not. It's certainly better than glow effects for sure, and for the moment, I'm not even sure where those are appropriate in the professional world.

Negative attitudes in the workplace have been a major issue in my department lately, and it's really sad some days.

Good work, designers are cool .

Drop shadows are like any other element; they can be good or bad depending on what you do with them. I think the backlash against drop shadows stems from their overuse. Problem is, design software made it really easy to whack drop shadows on everything, and people did, and often carelessly; using the default settings which are way too dark most of the time.

They are also unfashionable nowadays as colourful, flat and simple has been 'in' for a while now, but they are still there if you need 'em. Drop shadows are useful for adding contrast when it is inappropriate, or too difficult to do it another way. That's part of the trouble though, because it can be tempting to be lazy and use shadows when there may be a better, more interesting, or nicer way to do it.

Kind of livid over the work schedule and hoping it had better be edited.

I knew one co-worker was going to be away the next three days, but it turned out a few days ago the other one that works the same floor is ALSO going to be gone for a three day weekend as well. There will no doubt be NO ONE that touches that department (aka the entire second floor except the mattress area) during the hours I'm not there Friday evening or Saturday morning/early afternoon, so I know I'm probably going to walk into a disaster Saturday afternoon. To top it off, I'm supposed to be closing Sat. night then be back at 7am because I'll be the only one available to change the sale signs, which will take the entire long shift to do, while trying to deal with the darn customers and never having a chance to deal with the disaster that floor will likely become... and then according to the new schedule, when they're already going to kill me with this weekend alone, after today I don't get a break until next freaking Friday?? WTF.

And most of my shifts from tomorrow through next Thursday are long ones... at it stands currently, 7 days in a row, 50 hours, before I get a day off... 30+ already often feels like a lot to do with this kind of physically active work. And I'm part-time. Gee, I'd sort of like it to feel like part time then. Nice loophole though... 50 hours in a row, but 15 of it happening at the end of the prior week so it doesn't get added to next week's total.

It is nearly impossible to ever get two days off in a row as it is, I almost never do, and I've got two co-workers who will both be having three day weekends and I am the one who gets swamped with the scheduling?? While I appreciate getting hours, this is stupid, esp the nights I'm there late and then expected to be back in the next morning. It better end up edited for the better.

Sure, one of my co-workers is usually on early Sundays to do the signs (while I'm sometimes there at the same time or come in an hour or two later to assist with it), but the difference... she never closes. Going to be exhausted after Friday and Saturday, and then don't have a chance in hell of getting nearly enough sleep before I'm back Sunday morning. Gee. Thanks. And thanks for stressing out the rest of today because of it, my one day off before facing this s***.

This after my lead had done schedules himself recently and gave himself Easter and the following day off, not being there to lend a hand when it was terrible then and I know he won't lend a hand this weekend either.

Just shoot me please.

Trying to take a nap in a moment of pure exhaustion, and being only able to lightly doze.

At midday when there's no curtains on the windows, so it's very bright.

That's probably Goku, you're better off not acknowledging him.

Also, even though it's rather obvious, I've seen him log on with the Ninja Arnold account several times over the last few weeks. I don't get it.

Not so much a gear grinder, but just a little worried on a goal of mine. I want to go to a really good college with a low percentage rate (18% as of 2014); problem is it requires a really high grade point average and the school keeps stopping me from going into honors/advanced placement. I've already explained there's been nonsense over this school year from personal issues to teachers, but I'm curious.

If anyone has advice on controlling stress, I'd really appreciate it. It's a big goal of mine and could use any ideas as a template for next two years.

@AB: For God's sakes dude, enough. We get it, you get annoyed by her, don't need to spill the beans with every damn post. She's got a point though, it's becoming borderline stalking by Goku.

I find it ironic how some people can be all "Woe-is-me, my life sucks!" yet have such p*ss poor attitudes and treat others like crap that they fail to realize that their own jerky behavior is what's causing them to have such miserable lives. It's called karma, people; what goes around comes around!!!

Yeah, that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Mad because life sucks and then act ignorant toward others because they think the world owes them... well, guess what, then life will keep on sucking.

A certain kind of fan in fandom. Any time you see a creature based character revealed, there's always that one person who has to inquire about their reproductive traits and/or habits. Does it have human or (insert animal of origin here) genitals? Etc. Go awayyyyyyy.

Way too long, prob should ask the bank, and maybe the person the check was from if there's any chance the check bounced.

I can't fault anyone for sometimes quietly wondering sooner or later, but if that's their first thought on a new character... o.O

...um...that...doesn't have files in my last ten years of fandom for just about anything...

In all seriousness though, I think there are times when it's a legitimate question, and times when it's flat out perversion. Sometimes it's clear where they're going, and other times it's not. It would depend on the board and the previously established personality/reputation of the person asking. Usually it is perversion.

It's more of an obscurity than a grind, but it's still worth addressing.

I have a sketch that I posted on tumblr, which has gained likes instead of reblogs. But that's not the problem. It's "milf" porn blogs that have made up most of the likes
This is the sketch
Pretty much nothing for a blog of that kind to want. Except for an offhand comment in my post that Michelangelo calls Xeinos a "step mom" as a joke. And I'm pretty sure that's the target point?

It is very confusing. It wouldn't be so weird if it was just one, but there are four.
