I never really have thought about it from that angle - stay in a dream and live with his wife, or live in the real world and see his children grow up. I guess I never considered living with Mal to be a viable option for the character since I always saw her as a "bad guy", and assumed he would as well.

Interstellar to me is a stronger example of "loss and the grieving process".

I quite liked Inception, but find the bulk of Nolan's other films to be...self important in a smug kind of way.

Yeah, Mal is an antagonist but she's simply the reflection of his own guilt and loss. If we had the opportunity to give life to our lost loved ones in a fantasy world, how many of us would willingly choose to go back to the real world?

I like the Nolan Batman movies, and I like that the Batman movies reflect the various director's sensibilities, even when those sensibilities are completely bizarre. The way I look at it is that it’s WB’s money, they can gamble with it any way they want. Every now and again we get something great out of it. Not everyone feels this way obviously, and it seems a lot of people are very possessive of characters and franchises that they like, but I’ve never really been that way inclined.

Now, let me put on my tinfoil hat. You may be aware that there is a very important and mature Marvel v DC competition going on in the hearts and minds of the people – it occurs to me that it is a lot easier to make an ‘Marvel good – DC bad’ argument when you discount successful movies for subjective reasons. I’ve heard people say ‘The Dark Knight trilogy aren’t really DC movies, they’re Christopher Nolan movies.’ which is an odd point of view.

Anyway, the people love a war.

You're pretty passive on most things, but when it come to Nolan, you dig your heels in deep.

I just wanted to throw this out there, a majority of Nolan's films are about handling loss. Memento is yet another example and The Prestiege is to an extent as well.

Plenty to debate actually. I've been to some LCS chains (Forbidden Planet and A-1), and they all agree with me. They think Marvel are going to steadily pay a price for their mediocre output over a gradual long-term period and we're starting to see that

I don't like being the guy that reminds everyone Marvel sucks because when that company gets things right, they are amongst the best, but DC just have the better dynamics and relationships with their characters, especially now. It's really irritating to see those great elements of DC buried beneath so much unncecersary murk in these movies

I apologize if I offended you, but you were still being overly sensationalistic, and now you're being stubborn. Your anecdotal evidence from two retailers is not enough to back up your claims. The market share in June was 44%/31% in favor of Marvel, and TPB dollar shares were 50%/31% also in favor of Marvel.

Even so, lots of companies time-lock their more sensitive films. Plus you need a key to open up the hard drive.
Theaters usually can't just play a full film whenever they want.

I had a friend who worked at a theater back in the day, who would have early screenings for friends.

Those days though, are long gone. You're right. there's a pysical key, but on some films theres also a digital timer...

So your argument went from DC is currently killing Marvel in sales to a couple comic shop owners saying they think Marvel is headed down over the long term? Gotcha.

I'm sure they use 35mm prints for special occasion - like TotheNines seeing Mask of the Phantasm - but I would think that to minimize disaster and maximize convenience, theaters would want to go pretty much all-digital.

I don't know about physical keys (I wouldn't be surprised) but I was referring to digital keys, that work only at certain times and certain places.
