So you'd pick the woman that was in the only Catwoman movie that got destroyed by critics?

Lilly James might work. Getting training in dance or fighting to get the movements down might show her flexibility. Otherwise I would advocate for her. She has been a supporting actress and shown versatility. I believe that this would allow for her to break out. She is in the right age bracket and look. I think that she can pull it off.

If Catwoman is black I think there's some unspoken rule in Hollywood nowadays where there needs to be at least one black or gay/lesbian character in every major movie now. It seems someone in Hollywood is pulling the strings of every major movie production of the last 10 years. Times are a' changing.

I don't like changing the races of established characters, if they need a black character you can bring Morgan Freeman back as Lucious Fox.

While it does associated the most with Celina Kyle, in reality she is not the only one "Catwoman".

As long as new black Catwoman is not named Celina Kyle, I am fine with it.

There's already a black Catwoman Patience Phillips, and the black Catwoman from the 60s Batman show is retroactively patience Phillips as well. Selina Kyle isn't blonde and isn't black, but please do #bringbackpatiencephillips again

I really don't care what ethnicity Selina Kyle is, but it's gonna take a really good actress to make it work.

80 years of white brunette in the comics is a lot of mental conditioning to overcome.

I said it before and I will again, after Julie Newmar there was no effective Catwoman portrayal until Anne Hathaway. She looked the part and acted the heck out of it. Yeah, even Michelle Pfifer's portrayal does not look or act like Catwoman.

I don't super care about Catwoman's race as long as it's just a "cast the right actress for the role" thing and not a, "we're specifically setting out to NOT cast a white woman" thing. That's where I get a frownie face.

Reeves wanted a black Commissioner Gordon, too, but the guy's too busy doing the Blade movie. But they still might cast another black actor in the role, anyway, just not the guy they wanted.

Don't kid yourself; they're checking off boxes. "Unspoken rule"? No, it's plain and simply A Rule.

In fairness, the Lego movie already did that. Black Barbara Gordon.

Because comic adaptations are NOT ALLOWED to have a white ginger. No redheads allowed, fvck off, you soulless copper-haired heathens!

Screw Wally West. Screw Barbara Gordon. Screw Johnny Storm. Screw Mary Jane.

And others, I'm sure. It's a weird anti-redhead agenda.

Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale is the only one I can think of that survived intact (from the Archie comics)... but then they almost immediately turned her into a lesbian, lol!

Lego Babs still had red hair, though.

I'm quite excited to see a trailer for this film. More than anything, I just want to get a more specific idea of the genre and tone. I know Matt Reeves has mentioned "noir" as an inspiration.

I think that's what excites me so much about these stand-alone movies. The MCU is a Marvel fan's godsend, but it's much more fun to anticipate a film when you know there really are no limits on what type of film it can be.

Everybody's different. For me, I want the DCEU to learn from its mistakes, start putting out quality solo movies with connective material so that in 6-7 years we can watch Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and everybody else standing next to each other fighting Darkseid and it be this earned and exciting thing.

And standalone movies like Joker are fine as long as they aren't taking anything away from what should be the primary momentum. Though again, while movies like that can't really help a DCEU they CAN hurt it if they end up sucking and bombing.

Totally. Despite me preferring the stand alone format, for DC, I agree that both can live in harmony. It shouldn't be an issue.

I don't agree with the idea that a shared unvierse should be the primary momentum. That's subjective.

"Should" from a business perspective? I wouldn't say so, at this point. I'd say the smart thing is to build those blocks back up for a bit, gain audience trust, don't juggle more than you've shown your studio is capable of handling. They've seen great success with films that don't lean heavily into the shared universe concept - Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Joker. The former two being a part of a shared universe, but are stand alone movies, for all intents and purposes. They're breaking 1 million in box office and winning prestigious awards with their solo films, so it's hard to justify that they should change their current direction.

"Should" from an artistic perspective? Again, it's subjective.

I don't see how a stand-alone film poses any more risk than a shared-universe film, either. If anything it's the opposite, because you don't have a ton of eggs in one basket. Release a bad stand-alone movie? Move on and try to attract the audience with something else.
But plan out and finance a whole planned shared universe and release a couple crappy films? You're close to screwed.

I don't really mind that, I doubt we'll get far enough to see Barbara Gordon in this anyway.

Another source says that right now Hill and the producers are trying to figure out which villain he should play. It's hard to choose between the Riddler and Penguin.
