Well...well...well...

I come back from a decade of being off this forum, and I come back to:

A Muppet Babies Turtles movie where Donnie sounds like...I would say a girl (but that's an offense to the ladies in the forum. My apologies, Madams), Seth Rogen smoking his newest toke after his 'winning' success with classics like Santa Inc., a 90 minute running time that is somehow going to try to cram at least 8 mutants (not taking into account April, the turtles, Splinter) into the mix (and folks thought Amazing Spider-Man 2 had too much going on), a Raphael that looks like he is going to do the Truffle Shuffle as the new Chunk in the Goonies Reboot, and supposedly a film that will make 'people cry'.

Yeah...from how much the film sucks...unless it's Kevin Smith, he'll cry at anything.

Happy days for all.

That doesn’t offend me. I’ll bet Donnie hits like a girl too.

Okay, if the movie itself was using girls as insult material like that... yeah, that's insulting. Ask some versions of Karai and others what "hitting like a girl" feels like, they'll make the average person regret asking.

A simple truth about casting teen actors who needed to take a hammer to those vocal cords to get them to crack... not offensive imo. Maybe if we were all 12, but it's still a simple truth rather than an insult. But humorous consideration appreciated nonetheless.

Thank you.

Was on the forum for a while...but about 10 years ago got into a fight with the documentary guy on Turtle Power (we had different interpretations of the word Definitive)...plus the Steroid Abusing Super Chuds featured in the 2014/2016 abysmal latitudes didn't help matters, and the disappointment of the 2012 cartoon turning Raph into a guy scared of horses and being turned into flowers helped even less (in My Opinion)...

Yeah. A break was needed. Sad that these characters are down in the dumpsters along with every other franchise (Alien, Predator, Terminator, Indiana Jones, Star Wars etc.).

Really? It's difficult to imagine coming to figurative blows with that guy.

Eh...it was a difference of opinion, so to speak. I had interviewed him a long time ago where he said certain things would be in it. Then when the doc arrived, 80% of the history was missing (and interviews for some reason cut, like Brian Tochi who voiced Leonardo was interviewed but was missing).

And yeah...I get it. The studio forced them to make the product that they didn't intend to. Just was severely disappointed by the final product. Then when the 'Turtle Power 2' thing was announced, I was like "if this first doc is so Definitive to the point you called it that, and in which the word literally means 'complete and final'...then why are you doing a part 2 (which you will charge more money, etc)? If that's the case, then that first one wasn't a 'definitive history' in the first place, right?"

I'll put it this way. In my views, the doc was presented like it would be along the lines of Never Sleep Again (for Elm Street) and Crystal Lake Memories (for Friday the 13th) when it was promoted on here for years with stuff like 'I saw the deleted footage from the 1990 film', etc. In my opinion, it just felt like a big tease. So Yeah, I know expectation doesn't mean reality, it's how it goes. So instead, it was 90 minutes at most (with, to be honest, a nice look into the 1990 film at least) of a feature that only got released cause the 2014 film was in theaters.

But again...it is what it is and that's like a decade since then. Oh well.

How much money do you think this movie is gonna make at the box office? I wanna say it'll flop, but it has next no competition whatsoever, so it could end up doing good enough after all.

I think it will do fairly well. there seems to be positive feedback online about the designs and the artstyle especially compared to the Bay Turtles. Also there is a lot more fanart which doesn't mean ticket sales, but at least the movie is on peoples' mind. I think it will be in the $350-400m range

Oof, it's hard to say. I mean, we know what a CGI animated TMNT movie did 16 years ago, 14 years after a reasonably respected TMNT trilogy had been released. It did 50 million stateside and another 50 internationally. What a new CGI animated TMNT movie will do only 7 years after a fairly universally reviled pair of TMNT movies came out... I dunno. I have to believe it'll do at least a bit better than TMNT 2007 (if for no other reason than Nick will market it a lot better), but I guess we're gambling on the humor push, kid voices, "look" and an overweight black April connecting more with people? Plastering Rogen's name on it (which by his latest movies, is NO guarantee of financial success)? Like, what even is the hook with people/kids who don't know or care about the TMNT? "Look, kids! Weirdness!"? idk...

If I had to speculate, I'd guess maybe only slightly better than Shazam 2 numbers, and that's being very kind. Maybe 70, 75 domestic, and another 50-70 internationally, with a total haul of 170 million at the most. Internationally they just don't seem to care much about TMNT, and CGI animated TMNT even less. And with overweight black April, you can forget about significant Chinese dollars, if any. And damn, Mutant Mayhem's production budget is 200 million! Even higher than Into the Shadows. Figure another 100 million for marketing after kickbacks... yeesh! We'll see, but it's hard not to predict Nick taking it on the chin with this one.

I'm not sure if it will make massive numbers. Possibly break even or make some sort of profit. There is little to no competition, the average Joe that isn't on Twitter all the time seems to be generally interested, and they're doing a decent advertising campaign for it.

I mean, compared to the first Bay movie that pretty much held on..... anything til maybe 2 weeks before the movie was out (really.... we only found out about the TMNT designs months in advance because they accidentally leaked the Halloween costumes), they're doing a much better job. Like, where was the Bay Turtles Pizza Hut commercial?

Wow. I don't remember that either. Just the trailers with the whole 'I can feel my shell tightening' and Mikey taking off his mask, which only made April scream louder.

Objectively, though, that was for 2014. I don't see that there was a 2016 Pizza Hut commercial. So maybe 2016 completely failed because their marketing budget didn't include an earmark for Pizza Hut? idk. Though I also don't see anything convincing me that a Pizza Hut would make a big dent for a new Turtles movie.

We should keep things in perspective. When TMNT 1990 came out, Turtlemania was riding high, because everybody everywhere was high on all TMNT product everywhere. They could have put out almost any movie and it might have done pretty OK. Now, in 2023? Do we think the few kids that watched Rise of the TMNT cartoon are going to make their parents line up and buy tickets? Do we think a significant amount of adults are going to line up to see a CGI goofy thing, now in their late 30s and 40s and over?

2016 was a total failure and for good reason but 2014 was unique. 2014 was an enigma. We knew it had gone through substantial reshoots. We'd heard bits from Eastman, this and that. Deep down, we all wanted to believe that somehow, beneath these giant hulk Turtles, maybe they "got it," if only after substantial reshoots. I'm not imagining a lot of "good faith" going into Mutant Mayhem by the fandom so their only hope is people -- eh, kids -- who haven't ever really ever heard of TMNT. With a smattering of those who just are about McTMNT™ brand loyalty like the 20 people on this forum.

Where did you get the 200 million figure? I‘ve seen it float around a couple of times but there‘s no way it‘s true, is it? Spider-Verse and Puss in Boots 2 both cost way less.

Speaking of Puss in Boots 2, I think that‘s the most sensible comparison. The YouTube views for the first two trailers are similar and it seems to cater to a similar audience overall. If it gets good word-of-mouth, it might make about 400 million worldwide which should be more than enough to be profitable and warrant a sequel. However, if the budget was actually 200 million, it‘s doomed, no question.

The actual TMNT fandom? Naw. But I imagine due to the kid voices and 'modern day comedy' kids might wanna watch it. Then you have the normies that don't keep track of this stuff and are like 'oh the ninja turtles, I remember them' and might watch it with their kids or their date or whatever, and of course the have the TMNT Shills like Andre the Black Nerd that will see it.

Depending on my mood, I might go see it. There's really absolutely nothing that interests me in terms of movies up on the horizon other than the FNAF movie in October, so depending on what's going on that weekend (and if I can find a friend unlucky enough to drag along with me) I might see it.

It's odd. My tastes in cinema have become so varied, and there are just so many ruined franchises out there, it takes something extra special, or in this case, extra odd to make me actually out and see it.

For this year alone, the only movies I've seen in theaters were M3GAN, Suzume (limited release anime movie), and The Super Mario movie. Maybe the Turtles, and definitely FNAF in October. I mean.... other than whenever they'll release Deadpool 3, literally nothing else that's coming out interests me.

Right, if you compare it to similar films, the budget couldn‘t have been higher than maybe 120 million. It shouldn‘t be too hard to make this at least a mild success.

I'm starting to see some merchandise at shops (even Funko Pops) but I've yet to see any kids with them.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that new Paw Patrol movie performs better than this.
