This is my main issue with him being hired for this movie in the first place. That and the fact that he doesn’t like the Marvel movies because they are kids’ movies and “not for him.”

The voices for Michelangelo and Donatello are both cringeworthy. The glasses on Donatello does not look right visually either with the bandanas.

Michelangelo's voice is just a black teens voice, it's just the actors real life voice. So Michelangelo sounds like a black kid rather than his usual "surfer dude" persona.

This is is probably Peter laird’s worst nightmare in terms of everything he would veto as well as systematically try and salt the earth from even being a viable inclination. But seriously this looks at cheap soulless out of touch pandering drivel everything the 80’s toon is accused of being and was in its middle years brought to the forefront and inbred with the dregs of executives comprehension of TikTok. Pete was really holding back the tide.

I remember PL saying he watched the Nick 2012 cartoon when it came out (I doubt he watched the whole series, but he said he watched the first season on DVD), and his only comment was the animation looked like a videogame. I think you can find it on his old blog in a reply somewhere.

On the one hand I completely agree with you. They knew what their deals were. Period. Done deal. And I've spent more years than I care to admit staring at contracts myself.

On the other... eh, you know what, you're right. Though with Peter, I wonder -- and I don't know if this is true remotely -- there might be a shade of "Well, you complained so much about what I'm doing, here you go. Meanwhile, I'm 60 million richer so f*ck y'all." Which isn't to say that was. We may never know. But I wouldn't even blame him at all from that Vol. 4 lettercol. I‘m sure you‘re right in Laird‘s case. I wasn‘t a big fan of Vol. 4 but he was clearly just writing what he enjoyed himself and having people constantly sh*t on that must have been upsetting. Sure, you need somewhat thick skin when you‘re a public figure but as an accomplished artist you don‘t owe people anything.

I think/hope Cube's main complaint is that these kids aren't even attempting to change their voices to sound like these characters they're portraying, and not just using their regular speaking voices.

But I mean, they're kids. They probably don't know how to do that yet. I'd imagine even if the kid went for a 'surfer voice' half the lines would still be his regular speaking voice because he wouldn't be able to keep it up for the whole movie.

Yes, that is my problem. I had not paid close attention to the film so I am just now learning that unknown teenagers were hired to voice the Turtles. I assumed that the Turtles would have a certain kind of voice, but the sqeaky sound coming out of Don and the lack of a hipster/ surfer attempt doesn't fit Michaelangelo. Nothing against the teenagers but they don't seem to fit a Ninja Turtles project. Getting preteens to voice Peanuts or Hey Arnold or similar characters sure, but these are mutated Turtles with certain personalities.

Am I the only one who is turned off by Donatello wearing glasses over his mask? Be it design wise to show he is an intellectual or proper wise either glasses or a mask and the mask wins out.

Michelangelo literally just sounds like a black kid. If you didn't look at the screen and just heard the voice, you just assume you're listening to some black teen with his brothers or something.
