I honestly don't mean to be rude, but is this a thing that seems difficult to spell out? Obviously the intention of the writers and artists was never this was a "black and white universe." Like the Sin City movies or something. I'm positive Kevin and Pete would have run TMNT Vol. 1 in color all the way if they could've done so monetarily. I mean, I'm glad they didn't... I do LOVE their duotones. But I suspect that given the means they were working with in those earliest of days coloring the books would have been like a cost that would seem easily cuttable. And there were plenty of other books at the time in B&W that found their niche.

But then we have other factors. Like, hello... the covers are in color. Are we just to ignore those? Pretend they are nothing? And then we have the specials and one-offs within Vol. 1 that were in color. And the ENTIRETY of Vol. 2 at Mirage that is in color. All the while with color covers.

To strip all of what I've just written and just do a, "Nahhh... Mirage is just a black and white universe" seems extremely insulting to the material to me. I get that certain people enjoy the variety of visuals that affords but... it's not needed and literally makes no sense.

IDW Slash is dead, Mirage Saki is dead, 2012 Metalhead is dead. See the recurring theme? This appears to be a new Ninjara, not Archie, but I assume her “black blade” has something to do with resurrecting the dead.

Well I don’t know if this is meant to be the exact same Battle Nexus as the 4kids universe, but in that version… if anyone lands a killing or even harmful blow, the victim just gets safely teleported to the infirmary. So they do have a chance lol

I agree. Even if it didn’t make complete sense (the 4kids and FW crew should have also lost their color), I still love that they did that in Turtles Forever. The characters didn’t see it in black and white, it was just a matter of audience perception.

But every time they’ve done it since has just been like… alright, we get it.

The whole concept feels a bit like a video game crossover roster screen, and probably more like Mugen with lots of variant characters with styles that don’t really mix and match!

I just hope there's more characters thrown into this too.

Here is from Russian forum and who ARTEM spotted on Cover B https://www.turtlepower.ru/showthread.php?t=19523
Here is English translation
Let's count the cameos on our fingers:

1. Don (90s trilogy)
2. Raph (Rise)
3. Mikey (2012)
4. Ronin
5. Someone from Mirage
6. Don (87)
7. Someone from Mirage
8. Leo (87)
9. Someone from the 90s.
So they might appear at least as cameos

Seems strange that no one from the 4kids universe is headlining, seeing as that’s where the Battle Nexus originated.

Also… hear me out… IDW just recently struck a deal with Peter with the whole Journeys thing. Is this going to be a back door lead-in to a volume 4 conclusion? Last we saw Mirage Leo, fake (or real?) Splinter had just learned of his arrival in the Battle Nexus.

Maybe they will surprise us and show someone from TMNT 2003 universe in this comic at least in a flashback

I am hyped !
It is nice to see IDW Ninjara, Sophie Campbell was starting to look bad with her teasing that started a year ago!
The covers are hinting to match ups that are logical for each of the turtles characters, it can be good.
It's probably canon to the IDW verse with the creative team involved.
A crossover with a 2012 Nickelodeon character is a first but Mirage already existed within the IDW continuity (Renet and Savanti Romero were introduced in IDW as their Mirage characters).

By the way,I hope Tom Waltz remembre the first IDW Battle Nexus story (2014 Annual) and brings back Zog, it is sad that this character has not been exploited much.

Also, IDW Slash is probably not the Slash we know (unless resurrection is involved), and alternate IDW timelines were established long ago so anything is possible. My wildest guess is that this actually Ronin-verse Slash ! But this is a stretch.
Bringing the Ronin-verse in the Battle Nexus would be an easy fanservice move after all.

Did they, though? They can reprint everything of Vol. 4 up to the last 2 or so issues that came out before the sale with or without his approval. Maybe they can even reprint stuff after that, too, (like, maybe anything he puts out under the 18 comics a year clause, maybe they can still reprint) it's not really clear.

There's another thread where this was debated. Basically I think the consensus is that the hope is that during the course of Journeys coming out, which will be like 3 years almost, Peter will either come around or IDW can use this time to somehow woo Peter to the idea of a finisher or the energy of the Vol. 4 issues coming out fresh does that on its own. Whether they can do that, or if IDW even exists in 3 years... who knows. I wouldn't get too excited.

I seem to remember a beheading in the Vol. 4 Battle Nexus. But idk. It's like Cudley and Renet, where there should just be ONE of each if there is a TMNT multiverse, but it just takes ONE show or project or anything to sink the ship and make it all look like crap.

We will see will this be same version of Battle Nexus from TMNT 2003 cartoon

Yes, also maybe other Turtles from cover B of issue 1 will make a cameo in this comic, I shared it where ARTEM wrote what they noticed on Russian forum

I never saw the contract, but just recently I was bored and scouring Peter’s old blog and saw him tell someone “I don’t think IDW is allowed to reprint Volume 4”.

They did fine with Mirage and IDW sharing a Renet, but I don’t really buy that 4kids and 2012 Renet are also the same person.

That’s not definitive, since he said “think”, but what else would even put the idea in his head?

Why not? You might be right but I am just curious and also Renet who appeared in TMNT 1987 universe in TMNT Saturday Morning Adventures comic, could she also be same character as them?

Definitely it was "pencils dropped" on Vol. 4 when the deal was signed with Viacom and then they owned everything up until that moment. That isn't remotely in question. It's the few issues after that is the only gray area. And no, there doesn't sound like there has been any deal made in this area. But there may have. We don't know. Conversely, maybe Viacom (now Paramount) owns anything he does under that elusive 18 comics a year clause he never utilized. Or maybe not! We don't know what was in that deal and apparently even Peter didn't years ago.

Found the source. An even more strongly worded “It is my understanding” they couldn’t reprint Volume 4.

The 4kids stuff (plot wise) is a pretty straight adaptation of the Mirage stuff. Neither her or Savanti comment on reliving the same events again or knowing the turtles already. Her age is ambiguous enough that either one could come first, but it still doesn’t really make much sense.

Then 2012 Renet debuted around the time IDW introduced this concept but they still made no attempt to work that in. Although she is visibly the youngest possible version of Renet, so she would have been the first to meet them, even before the Mirage stories.

It’s a cute idea, but the effort isn’t there. It’s on the same level as the “FW Krang is actually a 2012 Utrom” crap.

What is your opinion about 1987 Krang being part of Kraang who get banished to TMNT 1987 universe? I am just curious about this, by your comment I can see that you are not liking it I am just curious why?

It was half-baked. Just a lazy “it’s all connected!” attempt. Doesn’t ruin that episode for me, but it’s just something I pretty much ignore.

So you don't consider it accurate?
