I'm not sure about that. Keep in mind there's lots of young people who are far-right or close to it as well.

I believe most youngsters who are rather radical when they're teenagers and young adults just shift more to the center as they grow up.

Yes, you're right about that. I think the reason why we see people getting more extreme, one way or the other, is because the traditional center-left and center-right parties haven't managed to solve the issues that affect our countries nowadays since the 2007 global crisis. Housing market, inflation, high immigration without criteria, etc. So people turn to the populist radical parties as a response. It's frustrating.

I think Zarius is right.... being a leftist is something that most normal people grow out of. Only the most obtuse people, often with some kind of issues stick with it.

"Liberalism" sounds great on paper and it's basic premises stick to young brains as "the obvious and clear way" because of super-basic-thinking. But then most normal people become wiser and more experienced and they realize that the tenets of liberalism are actually better served under conditions where each person can create their own dreams as opposed to having constant "paid for programs do it for you". In short, most of what we call "liberalism" nowadays is for people who can't get beyond their high-school-level rejections and demand "justice" for their "slights". In super short - most Liberals are basically Loki taking on Thor.

Very true also, young people tend to course correct a number of times depending on how they read the electoral room.

I remember I was very righteously right after 9/11 despite not even living in the country, then about two years later I opposed the Iraq war because Michael Moore told me to, I absorbed all that liberal whining thinking it would usher in the next democratic revolution...and it didn't stop Bush securing a second term, so all that buzz for me died and everyone stopped caring for a number of years.

Obviously people cared when Obama became President because it was a glass ceiling break, and I enjoyed his Presidency. My favourite Presidencies are actually the Clinton and Obama administrations, but I wasn't paying as much attention to either (and the Clinton affair was a source of great playground amusement for me), I know my brother hated Obama but wasn't sure why.

I remember not liking Hilary's campaign due to the online noise from feminists and how generally unpleasant Hilary was, THAT's what really soured me on the democrats. I was still annoyed Trump won but I was watching largely for the pleasure of watching the fems get owned. It was a circus to me, not reality.

The Dems could have easily secured two terms total but they demonstrated how out of touch they were across just four years with senile Biden and their loyalists obsessing so much over what the right wing was doing...and doing nothing to hold it in check. In the 2000s, the right got hammered for "9/11 was bad" but in the 2020s the dems let the last couple of years happen by just making "everything is bad" their campaign slogan and offering no new fixes...because they don't fix anything, their job is to clean the s*it up and spend more time doing that than anything else, so people get bored and vote in the people who s*it the bed again because at least things still happen when they do.

You were pretty invested in American politics for a British guy, damn

The only thing I care about when it comes to American politics, is the foreign policy of their current president. I disliked Bush a lot too and considered the Iraqi War a stupid war based on lies about supposed WMDs.

As for Obama, he bombed a lot of countries, so he was no saint either and I dunno why so many Europeans loved him. Because he was a good public speaker? Really? And the fact the Americans who voted for Obama and loved him also seemed to ignore the fact he bombed like 7 different countries and deported more people than any other previous US president also soured me on him.

Trump is a clown. I barely remember Biden anymore, tbh. And he was president just a couple of years ago

Think I might have liked him because of that, yeah, felt very 'down with the kids' (back when those kids seemed cool to me at the time)

Not to defend Obama for his bombings, but I guess people were just that burned out by Republicians and their constant War-Mongering by 2008 that Obama looked great in comparison.

I think 2028 will be similar.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Unarmed to me doesn't just mean guns, it means nothing at all in their hands. I think we can agree to disagree there.

Stats since the turn of the century are showing otherwise, less of the young are moving right as they get older.

Mid-terms and '28 will be where the perception will shift to "sanity' prevails/national nightmare is over" but in reality the Dems will be so tied up in 'red' tape and clean up that they won't get anything of their own done, and they'll probably still get involved in conflicts and sour their voters.

Stats of where? The country? 'Cause it's not really the case outside of it. There is a massive right wing movement where we are right now that may sweep the elections, despite everything being thrown at them to try and derail it.

People are in love with the IDEA of the left, but they eventually find that reality never matches it. They either turn right or they realize, like I did, that neither left or right are the answer.

At least in our recent elections you can clearly see that young people (18-25) are voting either far right or far left. The center is getting destroyed in between but it‘s their own fault for being too wishy-washy with their messages and policies.

Same here in Canada. I am generally a right wing conservative, but I do think Trump is crazy at times. One thing I like about him is he called the liberals out here for letting in unlimited refugees. Dumb ass Trudeau thinking there wouldn’t be a price to pay.

Now Carney had to cut quite a few jobs with the federal government (I work for the federal government, luckily I’m safe) to claw some of that money back. Trudeau was a complete and utter moron

That was just the last thing I remembered when I looked at it last. Sounds like y'all got really bonkers judging by some of the other threads on the fallout!

Of course, they pretty much all do. Get rid of Homeland Security, get rid of all border enforcement, get rid of it all to replace it with nothing.

When looking up posts dating back to the 2000s from members who haven't posted in 20 years, I found some pretty cringe argumentitive comments of mine from around 2003 where I was calling George Bush a war criminal and condeming his butchery...but then saying I supported the Iraq war effort.

How did that make any sense in my autistic brain?
