James Gunn's claims for "quality" of the show are that Hal Jordan gets more screen time in the show than anywhere else in history and therefore fans should be "happy".

So I just finished watching the show for free on the illegal streaming websites at 1.5x speed. It really felt like it was embarrassed to be a Green Lantern show. There's no real aliens shown (Sinestro is basically seen for two scenes with pink face paint), everything is on Earth, no sci-fi stuff at all besides a few small things. Hal and John are jerks to each other the whole show and hate each other for no real reason (Hal doesn't want to be "replaced" as Earth's Green Lantern, which makes no sense as Guy is also around)
Hal does die, basically gets killed by a normal police woman. Whether he remains dead in future stories remains to be seen, he basically just dies sitting on a football field bench as his ex-wife shoots him in the face with a gun after arguing. The show despite airing on HBO felt like it lacked budget like the old CW shows, there was barely any action, special effects, no aliens, all just grounded humans. It's like watching a show that tried to avoid Green Lantern stuff as much as possible. |
