Ahh, that helps!

I was going to have my bud Mindi call up Fred Wolf Films and see what kind of answers she can get out of 'em regarding the old shows video quality. At least now we know that MW can choose to change companies if it doesn't like the job that LG is doing..

Murphy... as a fan, it's always great to get insider info.. thanks!

Do you know anything about the shelved live action/CGI TMNT miniseries that was written for the Hallmark channel several years ago? Laird confirmed it on his Planet Racers site...giving regular updates and stuff. If I remember correctly, it got as far as character designs and multiple drafts of the script. Rumor has it that Steve Baron was attached, as sort of a quasi-sequel to his TMNT film. Any chance the script could be...uh... *ahem*leaked... to the fans by an unknown source?

Also, do you know anything about the development of the first two films? Rumor has it that the first film started out as a direct adaptation of the cartoon, but went more hard-edged when Baron came aboard... then was later toned down.

I think we'd all love to see some of the preproduction work that was done on this, and if I can remember correctly, Peter said that he watched footage of a Splinter costume test in an alley that looked "real eerie"
Any chance of this being posted on the official site Murphy?

Please!

Quick question for Mr. Murphy(Spoilers?)

I remember reading an article that said Max Winters would make a deal with the devil. Now after seeing the new trailer and that scene where the pink laser is shooting into the sky, is Winters summoning them on his own? And will the devil make an appearance in this movie? I know the Turtles have fought all types of villains but isn't this a little too supernatural?

I'm with d_osborn. Can anyone hook us up with a copy of the script for the cancelled TMNT mini-series? I'd love to read it.

even if not a script any tidbits or general information about it would be really cool, same for the WB TMNT series they didn't pick up or any other projects that never got greenlit.

Murphy, has Magna Pacific said anything about including "Ninja Tribunal" in the DVD set?

I emailed them about it myself but got no response.

Thanks!

You think getting an email response is hard - you oughta try phoning them (and I live in Australia)!

They did get back to me though around the time What a Croc came out, and even though it took a little while, they were very informative - they actually gave me a full release schedule of the TMNT dvd's due to come out and what would be on them.

Patience is key I suppose!

Murphy, I just saw the FF episode 'The Journal'. It got me thinking. Since they showed the Ninja Tribunal and the monastary (sp?) in the episode, is this a possible clue that 4kids might actually air the Lost Season episodes early next year? Since the rest of the FF episodes won't air until the Fall.

I just read Tales #29 and I'd just like to say that I really dig White's style. His Donatello, in particular, looks a lot like Laird's.

On to questions: a few of us on the IMDb board have been wondering about the status of Laird's "remastering" project. I know he talked about it in a recent lettercol but I don't remember details and I don't want to go digging through my boxes to find it.

Anyhow, if memory serves, he's planning on going through the original series and re-toning and re-lettering everything, plus completely redoing #7 #8 (presumably with Lawson on pencils).

My question is, do we have any idea how much of the series this is going to cover? I mean, I think it's safe to assume he won't be bothering with the Mark Martin or Hedden/McWeeney stuff, and obviously he won't be doing the Zulli trilogy since that's just been rereleased, but what can we expect to see? Will it be all the Eastman/Laird/Lawson issues? Any others? Will the original Tales series be included? How about tie-ins like Fugitoid, Gizmo, Plastron Cafe? (I won't ask about vol 2 as he's got his work cut out for him just getting through vol 1.)

And what about issues that aren't Eastman/Laird/Lawson but are still classic Turtle stories? Any chance we might see Veitch's River Trilogy rereleased in a trade like Zulli's trilogy just was? And if so, would Laird "remaster" that one as well, or leave it as-is?

And as for that remastering...how conservative is Laird going to be about it? Are we mostly just going to see cleaner lines and better shading, or are we going to see significant rewrites, additional scenes, etc.? I think I speak for most fans when I say that I don't want to see TMNT: Special Edition here. Raph shoots first!

I realize that's a lot of questions, and given the rather huge scope of the project -- and the fact that Mr. Laird clearly has a whole lot on his plate right now -- there may not be any answers to them yet, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Hi Murph! Thanks for debunking the OP and for sticking around to answer so many questions! Now for one of mine:

If someone wanted to guest-write an issue of Tales of TMNT, what would be the process in getting that set up? Who would the prospective writer have to contact, etc.?

(Yes, by "someone" and "prospective writer", I mostly mean me, but I figured I'd phrase the question more broadly to encompass anyone else who might have the same curiosity.)

Thad that's a fantastic question!

The redone issue is #8 though as he wanted to remove Cerebus. I'm hoping that he's taking his time and that Peter's the one doing the pencils as it would fit far better with the early issues that way.

I think he's only remastering issues that fit his continuity, so there will probably be some issues that aren't Eastman/Laird/Lawson (Dan's Vol. 1 #45 springs to mind). But I wouldn't expect a lot of them.

I've not got the special #1 (I really must order that if there are any left!) so I can't say how much they're being updated. I imagine he will be changing some things. I really hope he does change some of the dating in the comics, at the time they were written they were dated to be placed in the modern day but the internal dating was much slower. An example of this is the retreat from NYC to Northampton was X-Mas 86, RTNY (one year later in story time) was dated X-Mas 88. Now Peter has a timeline he's working with I hoping little details like that will be updated.

Speaking of, Murphy do you have any idea how Peter's doing with his timeline? And if he'll show it one day?

Thanks.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Right, I knew that, I just misremembered the number. Should've looked it up. I'll go correct my original post.

Actually IIRC he first announced it in response to a letter asking if we'd be seeing Savanti Romero again. I'm inclined to remember that because it was my letter. (Incidentally, apparently he'll be in Tales #32.)

Right, I think he first mentioned the timeline at the same time as he revealed his plans to redo #8. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out -- comic timelines tend to get messy, and I'm glad the new series seems to be progressing roughly in real-time. (Actually, I guess City at War did too. Vol 2 seemed like it encompassed a much shorter period of time though.)

Looking forward to seeing Savanti again! It's always fun to see the old villains come back and cause new problems. Plus with time based adventures like Savanti things always get interesting (like Raph inspiring the creation of the Foot).

I agree that with Vol. 4/Tales Vol. 2 the timeline does seem much more solidified (Tales Vol. 2 #1 tells us the TMNT are in 1981 so the using internal dating from the stories we can pretty much work out everything from there bar some of the new Tales stuff). Though I don't think the current comic is moving in real time. I think Peter Laird said in a reply to a letter that several months have passed since #1 (including the 6 month gap in #5), and the story itself is leaving very few places where large amounts of time could pass. That said it is doing very well by not linking itself to any real world events or using any dating like the early comics did.

Oh, that was a FAVORITE of mine.

I'd love to see some TMNT movie sequel do a Savanti Romero story, but I worry that #3 poisoned the time-travel well for the franchise (and PARTICULARLY the feudal Japan time-travel well). I'd also be interested to see the Utrom/Fugitoid/Federation/Triceraton space opera play out on the big screen, but I honestly have trouble picturing how it could improve on the animated version, which took an already-great story and gave it an even bigger scope.

Hm, true; I think there was a 9/11 reference in there somewhere and I remember Leo paraphrasing Rumsfeld's "you go to war with the army you have" line, but by and large it's not tied to any particular era. Some of the more recent issues of Tales -- #26 and #29 for example -- clearly occur somewhere since the beginning of vol 4, but don't give any specific timeframe.

I guess you're right that they can't QUITE be occurring in real-time -- the Leo/Karai arc in particular dictates a somewhat tight timeline (a few weeks?) -- but some of the other subplots, Mike's in particular, look like they could have easily spread out over a period of months.

City at War was similar -- it occurred roughly in real-time, but there were also cases where an issue would have a cliffhanger ending and the next month's would pick up right at the same spot.

Don't know; that's a good question. Maybe Murphy can help shed some light.

Murphy, or anyone, I was wondering if someone could answer this. Stupid question, but, I heard somewhere that the stories Masks 1 and 2 and and Juliet's Revenge weren't in official continuity, is that true?

Hm, that actually goes right along with the questions Chris and I were asking. I believe, as part of the timeline project and the remastering project, Laird is also putting together a definitive list of which stories are in-continuity. I'm curious to hear the answer too, as those weren't Eastman/Laird/Lawson stories but seemed to fit into continuity just fine.

Well, I'm sure all the Lawson stuff (Tales vol 1, TMNT vol 2) is in-continuity too, but I don't know what all else is -- and that's why I'd love to hear the answer to your question about Masks and Juliet's Revenge, among others.

I mean, obviously the Zulli, Martin, and Hedden/McWeeney stuff is all outside of continuity, but there are a lot of gray-area issues in there too that fit pretty well into the main series but aren't essential to it.

Maybe we'll get a clue in Tales #32.
