I'm all for personalized ranks as well.

It's certainly possible for us to keep an eye on those, but it just adds more work for the forum staff, and we're already stretched very thin. Plus, the rank title is a bigger target for abuse since it's in a very noticeable location (right below the username) and since it opens up the possibility of people impersonating staff members. Because of that, Shredder and I think it would only be a good idea if custom ranks were offered to members with a certain level of trust, such as members who have been here for a while and have a decent number of posts (so that we have a good idea of what they act like).

Well, yea that's exactly what i was thinking. We could still use the new rank titles system that we're working on now, but maybe at the highest level (like in your example at 1250 posts, or here at 2500 for the current Legendary rank) it could be switched so you could personalize your rank. Sort of as a "reward" for all of your posts/time here...just a thought

Although it would mean that the highest ranks would rarely be seen, we were thinking somewhere around 1500 posts for the custom rank. This would be an option and not a requirement, so members still have the choice of sticking with the default ranks.

Sounds good to me, Krang. And the fact that the people with over 1500 posts here are pretty sensible, I don't think immaturity with customized ranks will pose to much of a problem.

Besides, I've always wanted to be known as "Local Dragon Tamer" for a good while now

Well, we could still have the stars which would show high rankings but I see what you're saying...and I think 1500 would be a great place to start with that...

- Thug
- Underling
- Crime Boss
- Foot Ninja
- Foot Ninja Leader
- Elite Ninja
- Elite Ninja Leader
- Ultimate Ninja
- Master Ninja
- Supreme Overlord

also, another flaw about making it available for use after a certain amount of posts, you'd expect more spam which can also lead to more work for the mods.

We're most likely going with the idea of custom ranks once you reach a certain number of posts, so she would be welcome to use that as her rank. I'm pretty sure that Shredder is still looking for some more feedback on the default rank names, though.

Okay, so the option for custom titles is looking like a good possibility, but Krang's right that I'd like to know if anyone has any final suggestions on the new titles (until members get to the point where they can use custom ones, if they want). Or would people prefer just to keep the more generic ones we have now, and make the only change this custom title option?

Okay, I came up with a preliminary list based on everyone's suggestions. The custom rank will still be in effect after a certain number of posts (although the exact number hasn't been decided just yet). Let me know if you think we should make any changes.

-Mouser 5-14 posts
-Random Punk 15-49 posts
-Thug 50-99 posts
-Foot Soldier 100-249 posts
-Hench Mutant 250-499 posts
-Stone Warrior 500-999 posts
