Did anyone else think the idea of turning Shredder into an Utrom was too much?

Did anyone else hate the idea of turning Shredder into an Utrom in the new episodes? I personally thought that idea was too over the top and they should have kept him as a human.

If they needed an Utrom, why didn't they just write Krang back into the series? Krang was a good character.
