Really, I thought they've been doing that wrestling line (and thus I've ignored them). Guess I'll have to rewrite my analogy now. What other toy companies are there that aren't tiny or comic shop companies?

Jakks Pacific? They're the ones doing the wrestling figures, and I believe they picked up the American Gladiators license as well.

I am totally looking forward to getting Crush and Phoenix figures.

Thats WWE that has been with Jakks. Toybiz has/had the TNA license. Jakks is losing WWE. WWE will be made by mattel. TNA is moving to Jakks.

Jakks was wrapped up (along with THQ) in a lawsuit over the licensing agreements with WWE because of some sort of palm greasing involving a brand licensing agent who used to be with WWE. Now that the contract is ending, WWE and Jakks are parting ways. So its already been announced that Toybiz isn't going to be doing the TNA they have been doing.

Yeah, I meant that as in current wrestling figures! And I did know that Mattel will be getting WWE. That should prove... interesting.

I wish Mattel were getting American Gladiators as well... then maybe they could have the 4H sculpt my beloved Phoenix and Crush.

jakks acquired the license for american gladiators. they figures are/were supposed to be coming out in "spring 2009". Like the last poster said, the show was canceled, so it seems like a bad move to bring out figures at this point, but if it all depends on how far into production they got before the plug was pulled on the tv show. they may still drop (right into the clearance bin) in a couple of months...

for all I know though, the last poster is aware while I am not, of a specific announcement saying the figures were canceled due to the show being dropped. It all depends on how far along they were in production. It was announced that jakks got the license in march 08. It was announced that the show was canceled in december. Thats a lot of time for jakks to have been putting into a product before the show got the axe.

A well constructed design that isn't graphically hard on the eyes and laid out perfectly.

*new boxart front image snip*

A Slopped together mess of a design, infact it looks as if no care was put into the box design at all.
As I've said before the sizing on the background and foreground characters are just horrible and really off, and don't even get my started on the crop job and that giant sticker.
The Art isn't the problem, the way it's used is.
I have an MOC figure with the old boxart already. I don't mind the change here. I do prefer the old design where the cards were dedicated to one figure, but my attention is elsewhere at the moment when it comes to things I might wanna nitpick about.

It's just hard not to nitpick about things like this when you do this stuff for a living, and went to school for it for years.
So this is why I'm overly critical at times, that and the turtles have had much better box layouts over the years.
It would have perhaps been better if they split the box into 2 designs Good Guys & Bad Guys so they didn't squeez to many characters onto one box front making for perspectives and bad sizing that make my head want to explode.

Now there in lies the question: I have the 98 re-releases still on the card, I plan on buying these also. Should I buy 2, one to open and one to keep on the card? Should I just open the 10 year old figures and replace them with MOC 25th Anniversary figs? Should I track down Dave Garcia and have him autograph my Panda Kahn? Ok, that one's kinda out there...I'm kinda sleep deprived at the moment.

Yeah, totally. Even the one with Raph holding the figure wouldn't have been bad. But I like your idea about splitting the art between good guys & bad guys. What they COULD have done, was have 3 different types of card art:

- All 4 Turtles

- Splinter, April & Casey Jones

- Shredder/Krang, Rocksteady, Bebop, Slash & Foot Soldier

That might not have been TOO bad, & at the very least not as crowded.

Actually, wasn't this new packaging done already when the turtle toys were released over seas??

Hey Vaughn, Didn't you say you worked at walmart like over and over again?

When an art director or executive type in a suit tells an art department employee that based on the production numbers and given a specific budget they're required to produce a single cardback using the old card art its not being lazy or bad at their job when they complete the task. Perhaps they all want to do more and can't because of time or budget issues. Its time for you to learn how the BUSINESS of graphic design or other production works and stop talking about how you bust your butt looking for work and actually begin outputting work rather than posting here hundreds of times a day about how you could do it all better and acting as though you're some kind of authority on something you have nothing to do with. You're not aware of how many man hours can paid out for design costs on a project. At a certain point, from a business perspective, the more labor based art efforts result in only marginally better sales, yet increase costs in major ways. How many people that WERE going to buy the figures now WON'T because the card is generic with 'poorly designed art'? Weigh that against the cost of printing up individual cards or, as you suggested one good and one evil. In the end, the actions you suggest lead to more cost, but not to more sales. Its just nitpicking from a fanboy you can't please. A couch quarterback, a backseat driver, a takeout chef. You'll always think you know more and assert your opinion online as though others care what YOU think.

Ok, you don't like something, constructive criticism is fine. Everyone has an opinion. Just don't bitch and moan about how you can do it all better because you're jealous of those people in those jobs. Don't try to convince fans you know how the business works. You aren't a professional graphic designer. Perhaps you dabble in freelance once in a while, but you have said time and again, you stock shelves at WALMART. If I am wrong, link me to your online portfolio and I will eat my words. Oh, hahahaha, before I go any, further slapping sculpy on an "entrigan the demon" figure's head and repainting him doesn't count. I want to see where the work is that you got paid to produce that was released commercially.

You said the new playmates turtles were copies of the movie figures then bitched for two pages on the other thread about playmate's laziness. You have a terrible eye for detail. I can tell you, you are a joke where I work. You even use your real name as your ID while you run your mouth off about how you know it all hahahahhaha. Walmart, man, WALMART!

With your attitude put right out there on a forum like this, always knocking down anything new that's made, especially when you email your contacts, you're not in the process of getting work in that field. They know you as a big fanboy nitpicking critic. They try to be polite to you so you don't continue to drag people's names through the dirt. Everyone who is actually in the business is lazy, stupid, or some other negative quality in your eyes unless you have personal contact with them and they give you "insider" information. In which case, you feel they're victims of the same idiot run machine that is keeping good ideas out.

Dude, you work at walmart. Other guys, the ones who you think are idiots, MAKE ninja turtles cartoons, toys and comics. If you can do it better, get off your butt and do it. There is more to the BUSINESS of doing graphic design than nitpicking other people's work and having a bunch of ideas. If you can do it better, present your non-existent portfolio to playmates and try to get hired. Getting told "you don't have what it takes" a few times might open your eyes in seeing you have nothing under your belt and you're an arrogant, cocky, opinionated fanboy-one who wasted a lot of mommy and daddy's money going to college for nothing. Perhaps being rejected a few times with slap some sense into your head and you'll actually see how much work you have ahead of you if you wish to get into a professional setting.

Dude, you work at walmart. You're not a graphic designer for a living. There is a reason my name was DonsAssistant and I have been very positive on these threads. This is my last post. You sir, are a plight of epic proportions on TMNT fandom and I wish you would grow up and see 1-YOU WORK AT WALMART and 2-calling every move made by people in the business stupid or lazy isn't going to help anyone in any capacity. It doesn't make you a fan. It makes you a wannabe creative talent. If you don't think we'd like to do more but at times are shackled by time and budget restraints you're on a different world. It just points out your ignorance. This isn't the fine art 'I'll get it done when I feel like and I do it because I want to express my feelings'-make believe world. We all know who 'Vaughn Michael' is in my office and if you think this is how you get work, man you definitely have a lot to learn.

Who the hell are you and why should anyone care what you have to say? On a side note telling someone off works better when you sound intelligent and don't repeat yourself multiple times.

You know what, man... I wonder what (since you're on the MC forum with me) Frogboy would say about something like this. It reminds me of one of his problems about the Muppet stock pictures having random other characters shoved in them, and they have different shadows and stuff all over them that don't match up with the image. And everything in those shots seems so cluttered and ill fitting. You know the image I'm talking about. The group shot with random characters splunched in?

I see what you're getting at after I took a really good look at it. It does seem way too cluttered. in its composition. Plus, wasn't some better art work rejected for this?
