Well from the previews of the demos they state its just Brawl but not as deep. I wouldn't expect too much.

Right. Again, nothing you're saying has any meaning to me, so you may as well just shut up and keep talking about the game.

lawl! Well, that's good to know. It's hard to find those kinds of turtle fans around here, though. Sadly, most Turtle fans are complete f*cking nut-cases.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what random people at 1up say. They were referring to (I'm almost completely certain) special moves anyway.

I don't know why people are still seriously expecting any OT characters to show up. Before the Turtles in Time remake and the OT/NT crossover special I would have said it was straight up not going to happen, but still, the fact that they put in the "Utrominator" instead of Krang shows it's highly unlikely at this point. I really wouldn't get my hopes up.

As for the game itself, it looks decent, but not amazing. I'll get it when the price goes down.

Random people? If anyone is going to know about how the game plays, in relation to Brawl, Ray Barnholt is going to be one of them.

Should that name mean something to me?

I was thinking today about how Ubi should have approached this game. After getting the basics out of the way they should have grabbed one unique and awesome character from each incarnation of the turtles. This to me makes the most sense for a game that's celebrating 25 years of turtles. Here's a list I made featuring just one character from each series of turtles who I would have liked to see in the game, and in the style they were in that incarnation.

Old Toon: Rocksteady
2K3 Series: Hun
Fast Forward: Shokonabo
Next Mutation*Shhh*: Dragon Lord
Movie Series: Tokka
Mirage Comics: Complete Carnage
Image Comics: Komodo
Archie Comics: Armaggon

If they had the rights to him I'd love to see Mako. I always wanted to see him fight Armaggon.

Obviously this is a pipe dream but truthfully this how it should have been done. They could have added more after that from the more important series like the comic. It wouldn't have even had to be these characters this is just who I'd have liked to have seen.

I'm having a hard time telling if this post was serious or tongue-in-cheek. Either way, I believe this was the way to go. It does irk me a bit that we haven't really seen anybody outside of 2003 and the movies.

No I'm being serious. I actually think that's how they should have done it. To me it's the most logical approach if your celebrating an anniversary and making that the driving force of the game.

You're absolutely right. Why they didn't do it this way is a mystery... well... maybe not. It's probably Mirage's doing since they were stated to have had a hand in the roster's choosing, and by Mirage, I mean Peter and Gary. The Ubisoft guys seem to fondly remember the original cartoon at least, and you'd think that if it was all their doing, they would have thrown more references and aesthetics to the old.

Then again, I was surprised to see The Technodrome, so who knows? The game may still have another good 8-10 characters left unseen at the very most, and we may get someone worthwhile.

To be precise, this game actually has pretty much met my original expectations:

Old toon representation: Check ('Drome level(s))
Obscure character: Check (Utrominator)
Traditional Fighting Game Conventions: Check (Combo mechanics, throw escapes)
Leatherhead: Check? (not considering him completely confirmed until I see him)

Everything else is just icing on the cake.

It's supposed to mean that Ray Barnholt doesn't fit into the category of "some random people" and that what he has said about the game is probably exactly what it's like: Brawl-lite.

Anyways, I was just thinking about how we're all going to be (inevitably) dissatisfied with the character choices once they're finally all known, and an idea kind of sprang to my mind because of that.

In Brawl, a lot of lesser-known and fan-favourite characters had cameo appearances thanks to Assist Trophies. I wish there was something like that in this game. Imagine if it was a Turtle-Com or something that dropped as an item. Pick it up, and like an Assist Trophy, it called forth any number of random characters from all walks of the TMNT universe. I can already picture Stockman showing up and swarming the screen with Mousers, or Krang's Android, in it's giant form, popping up in the background and firing lasers at everyone, kind of like Andross from Brawl with his deadly polygonal squares.

I thought that would be pretty f*cking awesome.

That's the problem. The game doesn't play like Brawl. The game resembles Brawl, and so when people don't see something like the easy-to-use, over-the-top special moves that Brawl had, they feel like it's "Brawl-lite." There are people out there who actually think Street Fighter is a beat-em-up game. Street Fighter! If you don't know how to do combos and you don't understand the game's mechanics very well, then of course you're going to think it's not very deep.

I don't mean to put words in Peanut's mouth, but I'm pretty sure he's said that he likes Brawl more than Melee. There's nothing wrong with that, but that alone should tell you that he's not that interested in Smash Bros as a fighting game. Melee and Brawl both have their pros and cons, but Melee is, in fact, a better fighting game while Brawl is a better party game. You can play each of them as the other type, but those are their tendencies. Smash Up appears to be a good blend of Melee and Brawl with aspects of other fighting games thrown into the mix. That is why I'm excited about Smash Up. And, of course, it doesn't hurt one bit that the theme of the whole game is TMNT...

Yep, in all their 8-bit and 16-bit glory, like the Excitebike and Lakitu Assist Trophies.

This is not fact. This is opinion.

Yeah... I don't know about that. Maybe if they had access to some of the old Konami game characters like Mechaturtle or Sisyphus, but I just don't see them putting in 16-bit Krang or Stockman, or 8-bit Dirtbag or Groundchuck, or whatever.

Still, this idea of Peanut's holds water. If I had more than a few minutes at the moment to snipe a comment here or there, I'd expound on it.

My apologies. When I use the phrase, "in fact," I don't usually mean that literally. It's just sentence flavor...

Anyway, it's the opinion of most competitive Smash Bros players that Melee is a better fighting game than Brawl. It doesn't mean that Brawl isn't a fighting game or that it can't be played competitively; it just means that Melee has game mechanics that lend itself better to that style of game.

Well, I didn't mean EVERY character, just a few for laughs. Most of them probably wouldn't look too good or work too well in the stages.

Putting words in my mouth is right. As a fighting game, Melee outstrips Brawl in every way, but as pure fun and nostalgia, Brawl wins out in spades.

Please don't make idiotic assumptions, especially when it's insulting my f*cking intelligence about things I actually know about.

Not my intention at all. You're always so defensive.
