It's a sad fact but the majority of casual TMNT fans started with the 80s toon and have absolutely NO idea that it was originally a bloody, black & white comic book. What they recall is the humor, slapstick tone that the 80s toon brought. Even I feel that 2k3 was the superior show, the 80s toon is clearly the most popular aka most profitable. I hope they can find some kind of medium between the seriousness of the comic book and the zanyiness of the old toon. AKA as long as the Shredder isn't a complete moron but is not a freakin' Terminator, I'll be happy. (Trust me, Ch'rell pretty much was unstoppable up until the very end.)

Makes me wonder if we'll see the return of the Technodrome. Krang just wouldn't make sense without his huge battle fortress and his army of Rock Soldiers.

I would love to see the Technodrome again! When I say that 1980s Turtles isn't a bad idea, I don't mean that Season 5 slapstick junk and "mad scientist of the week" stuff should be there. However, anyone with half a brain could make something like an underground battle fortress be completely cool.

Here's to hoping that Season 1 is their main reference on how to go about the style of the action, the competency of the characters, and the intelligence of the humor.

Yeah, I agree with you. I hope the Foot Soldiers remain human though, it makes more sense to see Shredder train an army of Foot than go back to robots.

Who knows, really, we could also see characters from the Archie and 2k3 universes in this show. Finally see Armaggon animated for one thing.

I don't give a s*** what "tone" or what characters are in it, as long as it's good.

I love Bebop & Rocksteady, as well as some other characters from the original cartoon, but I didn't whine when they didn't make it into 2K3. Even if this new series wipes the slate clean and has no previous characters other than the essentials, as long as the show doesn't blow, it'll be fine with me.

I too hope they find a happy medium between the humor of the OT and the ninja action of the NT. I hope they look for inspiration from Seasons 1,2, maybe 3 and definitely 7 and nothing in between.

Oh and Andrew NDB, maybe you should save your suicide threat for someone who cares.

I wish I could say that, but we already know what Nick roughly wants to do and with the source material they're using for inspiration being kind of all over the place in quality over a ten year run, it could easily "blow" if they focus on the wrong portion of that material.

If it does, it does.

Yeah, there's always the old stuff to look back on and that's what I've been telling myself since the news was announced, but it's not like I can just drop it like that since what we're getting in a few years may very well be the only new TMNT stuff we'll be getting for the forseeable future.

I don't know how to take this. I hated the OT. I hated how the turtles looked all cute and cuddly. I hated how they never did any actual martial arts fighting that was even slightly memorable. I hated how the villains never seemed to pose any type of threat. But I would have to think/hope that after the incredibly awesome 2k3 toon that rebooted my interest in the franchise after so many years, they will at least attempt to incorporate some of the fighting techniques and seriousness of that show into the new toon. If one of the turtles defeats Shredder by throwing a pizza in his face and calling that "a fight", then I will take my leave and just pray for the remaining 2k3 episodes (seasons 3 and 4) to be released on dvd so I can always remember TMNT for how I loved them most.

It sounds like good news if they keep the actual ninja-ness and kick-ass action.

See, back in the day, He Man fans compared their revised series to the TMNT revised series. He Man brought back all the characters and made them bad-ass and able to actually fight, which was barely allowed in the old cartoon. Turtles also made them bad ass and able to fight more than they did in the old cartoon, but aside from the turtles, Shredder and a few other characters, all the OT guys were gone. And even Shredder was different with the Utrom deal that rubbed alot of people the wrong way.

If they stick the basic concept of mutagen, Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady, Mutants, Technodrome and Dimension X, without the goofiness and camp and putting in awesome fight scenes and action.... you got yourself a winner.

Well, Nick said they wanted an action cartoon. So we can hope for action. They didn't pull an Imagi and be like, "We're totally wanting to make this a comedy."

I am not surprised in the least bit. The OT is the most popular universe by far. It is what many of us remember from our childhood. And Nick is THE kids channel

Yea, I didn't like the whole Utrom Shredder deal. In fact, I thought some of the least interesting fights in the show were against Shredder. They were so short. until the end, it was mainly a turtle taking a shot at Shredder, missing, and then Shredder knocking them out cold with one punch. Very little martial arts fighting. I found the fights with Agent Bishop and Karai/Elite Foot far more engaging. But even though I thought the Utrom Shredder idea was a bad one, they were still better than anything I remember from the OT.

It would be really cool to see Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady in the new show. I hope Lord Dregg is in it too. I always wanted to see him come back. I didn't like Dregg at first when he was introduced since that season didn't have Shredder and Krang but I learned to like him when he met Shredder and Krang.

I wouldn't mind seeing characters like Rocksteady and Bebop again. The quality of the show is going to depend on the writing, not what characters they use. Over the years, even a classic character like The Joker was reduced to a non-threatening goofball (like in the 50's). The characters can easily be re-written to be more threatening.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. I liked that fact that, in the first season of the OT, Bebop, Rocksteady, and the Stone Warriors were an actual threat despite the mutants' lack-of-intelligence and the Stone Warriors' lack-of-understanding in Earth technology. I know I harp on this in nearly every thread, but that's what I'm hoping for with Nick wanting to draw more from the 80s toon than anything else.

They're looking for a mix of ninja action to draw in young boys and the comedy the Turtles are known for that, according to Nick, meshes well with their style of comedy in their TV shows.

Heck, just get David Wise to write it!

This sounds to be good news me. Alot of the old characters need to be given a chance again. I just hope they take the good parts of the OT and not the lame parts.
