Nickelodeon: "they want to focus on the '80s toon Turtles"

If they do, I'm sure that's only a peripheral bonus to them... not a primary concern. It's a charmed few 25-35 year olds who are chilling at home rocking it out to Nickelodeon cartoons... certainly not any number that's going to make any kind of dent in Neilsen ratings.

It's only the business model of the original series they want to replicate. "What was the magic formula that started the Turtle craze in the 80s?" "The cartoon." "OK, let's see if we can follow the exact same steps and replicate the result!"

Me too. See, you can still have Bebop and Rocksteady and all those other guys... but you can also have characters with more depth than "We're fighting you because no one's buying our action figures." I love the OT and all, but what they did with Wingnut and Screwloose was a crime, as opposed to Archie's interpretation.

Here is what I would like out of the new show.

1. Good comedy like the old toon, that actually holds up well to this very day.

2. Good action like the 2K3 cartoon, with fluid animation during the fights (more FPS like in some 2K3 episodes.)

3. Characters from Mirage comics.

4. Characters from the 2K3 universe (Bishop please.)

5. Characters from the old toon.

6. Characters from the Archie series (Armaggon, Cudley, Mutanimals.)

7. CG at least as good as Penguins of Madagascar or SW: Clone Wars.

8. For it to last as long as some of Nick's properties (Spongebob.)

Mix all of that up, and you could really have a kick-ass show.

Hey, if that crossover movie proved anything, its that the old-school TMNT have a place in this world. Just tell some actual stories this time.

True, I think the OT turtles has a bigger following then you think though. You walk into those shops like Hot Topic and Spencer's and OT turtles stuff is everywhere, and has been for years now. It's selling very well and I have trouble getting some of the stuff I want sometimes. Can't say the re-release of the toy went over super well though. When wave 1 came out they were selling out all over where I lived but once wave 2 hit I noticed a lot of let overs, mainly April and the turtles.

I don't know if that will translate to TV ratings or not but it could very well.

I would be happy with a new updated CG version of the OT. TMNT will never be aimed at adults only as any kind of tv series tho. IMO.

This is what I've been saying. Everyone needs to get the hell over it! I've said it before, I feel like the Turtles work two ways - entirely serious, or completely goofy. The middle of the road junk that the 2K3 cartoon turned out to be completely put me off.

Since we're never going to get that 11-minute, Adult Swim, mature, comic-based TMNT show we'd all love to see, I'd rather see the OT style make a return. We've had the angsty little sh*ts since 2003, let's do something different.

Pictures showed up on Twitter of TMNT (fake) Snuggies a few weeks ago and people were going nuts over them. SNUGGIES. It was rather embarrassing to witness even from the hidden safety of my side of the computer.

Seriously just think of the quality of the current shows out. Even the ones aimed towards kids. Batman Brave and the Bold and Super Hero Squad are two great examples. If they go back to the 80s characters but give it a more updated tone I think it will do well. These are characters that seem to break through generational gaps and won't go away for a long time. Hopefully not in my life time.

ok. I'm still very confused on WTH is supposed to be going on. Laird sold all his rights to the his property, and everything turtles that was, is, and will be are now entirely in Nick's control. That I understand. (my reaction to this is sadness mingled with cautious optimism)

However I'm still a little unclear on what exactly is happening with a Nick tooned version of the turtles that wants to "focus" on the 80's toon. Does this mean that this will be another cartoon medium entirely that's just takes it's tone ofthe classic 80's toon with rehashed versions of some OT characters? Or is this a complete revival of the actual 80's toon that we all know and love with a slightly modernized tone and look, and the same characters with maybe darker tone to it and with CGI animation?

I'm not sure I'm really ready for a "new" take of the ninja turtles cartoon, if they are going to concentrate on the 80's cartoon, I would rather it just be a revival/continuation of the old show with maybe a more serious twist on it.

I actually think a ninja turtles cartoon can survive and handled respectably on Nickelodeon since they have Wolverine and the X-Men and the Fantastic Four on Nick and they are both really good shows and the animation is pretty good as well. Also Avatar was a great series in the vien of marticial arts and did quite well. So these shows give me hope. But I'm with the camp of this need to be traditional animation rather CGI. I hate CGI. I think it looks ugly and plastic looking even in high quality disney/pixar versions. And Often CGI shows look to much like computer game graphics for my liking. So I really hope we can get tradational animation instead of all CGI.

Question, if this actually turns out the be an actual revival of the classic toon, would you want Cam, Rob, Barry, Townsend, Renee, James, and Pat to voice their respective characters again? Would that be even possiable?

It won't be exactly like the OT, audiences have changed, it'll definitely have tons of elements from the NT but modernized, so it'll basically be a mix between the OT and the NT, it has the potential to be awesome.
