Everything Andrew said in regards to spitfire referancing my post is simply a greater representation of the points I've been trying to make... The same pattern keeps getting repeated to little success. The turtles are one of many franchises to get 're-done' but they are one of the only ones that just copycats its former self. That = fail. Red bandanas aren't necessary to reinvent them but I just prefer it & also think it would draw more attention to it. People would be like 'whaaaat? they're all red? why ar- WHOA YOU SAW THAT?1 THIZ TRAILER IS BADAZZ'! What I do stand by however is the need for PG-13, serious, and somewhat remorseless turtles. They don't have to love blood or be trigger happy so to speak but rather take joy in beating the snot out of those with ill intentions. Protect & serve damnit. If they were to do this radical change (no pun intended ) the red masks would be the icing on the cake I guess you could say... or rather the hint to people that these turtles don't appeal strictly to kids. Someone in their 20's who may have grown out of the turtles would maybe turn down a cartoon based venture but if he saw something more mature with passable violence that was both acceptable to 'kids' and adults, they'd be all over it I think. Transformers, as mentioned before many times, is a good example.

I bet the ratio of people who would jump to see a movie with Krang, the Technodrome, Bebop and Rocksteady in it is probably greater then those who would jump to see what you're talking about. When the new toon came out and even Smash Up that's all you heard. "Where are they?" People think they're the best characters aside from the turtles for some reason. While I don't personally agree it's what people want to see.

To be honest I'd like to see a re-invention that completely casts off everything. They can keep looks but I'm seriously tired of the origin story and they either need to write a new one or avoid telling it again. I'm sick of Shredder as well. I want a new villain who isn't totally stock or for them to use a lesser known one that hasn't had screen time yet. Mirage is full of them. Karai wasn't much of anything in "TMNT" so maybe done properly she could carry the film as a villain but she had maybe one crowning moment for me in 2K3 so I doubt it.

The film obviously has the Foot but it's getting stale. I'm honestly afraid by the time they get around to making the perfect turtles movies for us fans I won't care anymore. I'm not sure this film will do anything for me. Unless they can really turn it around and I don't see them having many options to work with. They want to do some hybrid of everything which in theory could be great but it could suck too.

I think you remain in denial that OS movie ticket buyers are no longer in the target demographic and won't fill enough seats to put a substantial dent in the box office. Because they're not.

Do people here REALLY think the general public knows/cares enough about ninjas to be upset about the lack of uniformity? Because that's dumb.

Another possibility to bring in the red bandanas mid-movie: Maybe Splinter gets captured (or killed, or assumed to be killed), and the turtles make bandanas out of one his red kimonos in honor of him.

Just a reminder, I'm not a writer lol

Yeah I wish at the least they'd give it a nod or something like that.

That's unfair.

It's not an "excuse" that leaving out any recognizable villains hurt the movie's gross, it's a pretty valid point.

Superman 1 and 2 both had recognizable villains, higher gross than 3 and 4 which didn't.
The Dark Knight had recognizable villains, higher gross than Batman Begins which didn't.
Turtles 1 and 2 had recognizable villains, higher gross than III and TMNT which didn't.

And, at the end of the day, TMNT just wasn't a good movie. There wasn't enough substance in the movie to generate any word of mouth. The action wasn't good, the humor was outdated, the story was a mess... The 80s toon fans wanted to see Shredder, Krang, Beebop, Rocksteady, The Technodrome, Live Action, and the Turtles. 1/7 isn't good enough.

Why didn't they bother to show up to see the last movie? Because it sucked. And it really didn't cater to them as much as you think it did.

(Yeah, believe it or not, "Ra's al Ghul" and "The Scarecrow" aren't household names to the mass market audience)

Have I said I love this thread yet? Cause I do.

Look people. It is the way the were meant to be. The colors were added for children! Eastman and Laird would not have done that on their own. But im not dumb. I know we will never get a movie of the all red bandana Tmnt. But in my eyes, thats the TRUE Ninja Turtles. I think a little nod to the comics would be enough for me to be happy. Some ideas in this thread are not bad! Especially,

I could see them now! Standing on the roof, wearing all red, and pissed! That scene, to me, is EPIC. The way the Tmnt should be.

I don't see why its so illogical for them to wear different colored masks. I mean yeah, we know the real reason as to why they are different but its not like it makes or breaks the fact that they are ninjas. I mean, lets say they adapt the first issue- every panel, every word but Donatello happens to be wearing purple when he takes his bo to Shredder's face. Is he really any less of a ninja? Story wise It's not hard to believe that maybe, they just have preferences. Hell, it could be like 2K3 where their masks were gifts because of something brave that they did as kids and that they just still wear them. In that case they didnt choose colors, they were given colors. I just feel like it makes no sense to say that different color masks make no sense.

Less of a ninja? Naw, I dont think so. But that would be horrid if they did do that. Just wouldnt work. Thinking of that reminds me of how I cringe when I see Custom Neca figures with toon colors. Just no.

^bridgegrn^ I agree. I have a feeling if they always had multicolor headbands this wouldn't even be a discussion.

He didnt say ''If they always had them''. If that was the case, then no, they would originally wore diff colored bandanas. I wouldnt have an issue. He said ''adapt''.

All of this is true. And those are exactly the reasons it underperformed.

Not because of a lack of Technodromes or cowabunga or other nonsense like that... though of course the nostalgic OS folks love to use the lack of that as the reasons for said underperformance.

"You see?!! They didn't give us Bebops and cowabunga, and look what happened!!! Proof positive!"

Horsesh**.

If you say so. These multi-millions of 80s toon fans that you would have us believe still exist that are allegedly active ticket-buying fans -- despite every statistical law that Hollywood and financiers have quantified and proven and hold to as far as demographics and how much pie which age group is going to yield -- that will refuse to see a TMNT movie that is virtually identical tonally to the 80s toon... these aren't very good 80s toon fans at all, I think.

They'd have to see it to gauge that, I would think. And if they were such fans of the OS, surely they'd take a gamble going into it.

My point is... the OS fans are out there. There's hundreds of active ones, thousands and perhaps tens of thousands... maybe even a million across the continental US alone. We're talking about active TMNT OS fans or retired OS fans that would be willing to re-indulge their childhood and see a movie that's exactly in the same vein as the OS. Even if every single one of these million fans showed up to an OS movie -- and that's crazy, we're talking about guys and girls in their 30s and 40s now -- that wouldn't even so much as put a dent in the box office.

Which really only works against your case -- they are... now. After Batman Begins.

I don't think it's unreasonable to put stock in a TMNT Begins type approach.

I'd go so far as to say that Ras al Ghul and Scarecrow still aren't household names.

People never really picked up on the fact that Liam Neeson was actually Ras, and always referred to Cillian Murphy as "that guy from 28 Days Later."

This brings up an interesting thought...I was just imagining the big wigs in their offices discussing the bandanna issue...

"Hmm...all the same color? Well alright, but were not going with red. Red is too ________!

Imagine if they decided to keep them all in the same color, but instead went with Leonardo's blue or something. How many of you red bandanna lovers would be ok with this? Personally I think i'd be kinda irked. All red or multicolored for me.

Black would look OK.
But it would not seem right, I guess.
