Exactly, it's a regional thing.

Now would the TMNT always been in NYC had the real TMNT (or original TMNT) already had a connection to them? Probably not. They likely would have just made up a place. But since NYC was already there and established it made sense.

In the UK, Doctor Who is always saving England. The bad guys always go there.

In Japan, Godzilla and friends always go there.

Same deal here.

Less interesting if they attack Tulsa.

Here is the only thing I can figure.

-NYC/Manhattan have great natural boundries. Manhattan is a island surronded by water. NYC itself is heavily populated and all the tall buildings ensure good protection, not to mention alot of hostage situations. This would be ideal to fight off goverment military.

-Their greatest obsticle for world domanence is there. What is the point in trying if they will eventually be foiled.

-It is an ideal region for the technodrome sub-terranian activities. No fualt lines or volcanic area and good land above sea level. ex(Sidney sub sealeval in spots. Italy volcanic activity. West coast u.s. Many fualt lines. UK not enough sub terrain room.)

-Last but not least its a cartoon!

I love that episode. Complain about the show being set in just some countries, but here they do France, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Romania within one episode.
