Here's some trivia I just rediscovered. In light of all the folks acting like the Bebop t-shirt in the intro scene for April & Casey was never mentioned before, I just refreshed my memory on what channel Splinter's 'stories' was on. Two guesses... Get it wrong and we'll eject ya from The 'Drome. Also, I'm guessing that "Jay's Pizza" is another reference to Famous Jay's in NY, like in the Fast Forward ep, "The Freaks Come out at Night". The Mirage Turtles even mentioned Bleacker Street Pizza.

As to where in the continuity of the OT this movie occurred, here's what I came up with: it didn't. I still want to believe it was meant to skew from "SHREDDER & SPLINTERED" because that's the only time Krang had his molecular amplification thing working, their sky wasn't red and the flashback was very similar to the plot of that ep. However, there was the cameo of Irma who wasn't on the show until Season 2 (but, The Turtles didn't act like they recognized her, so that's still plausible) and the scent analyzer that was introduced in Season 3's "BEWARE THE LOTUS". So, I still can't think of this as anything but a "what if" adventure for the OT and Mirage Turtles.

but here's the thing, couldn't Krang have fixed his molecular amplification thing? other than that, all the rest works for me. i've watched all of the OT series that's on dvd and i can't come up with anything better

No it's not. Leo says "Shredder was trying to get his hands on some mutagen", which is not what Shredder was doing in season 1. That whole scene plays out waaay different in season 1... it's way more chaotic.

Also, the sky stops being red at some point in the OT, just look at "Once Upon a Time Machine".

Plus Don's exploding throwing stars from season 2, and the lair they're in is the one they got in season 3.

Yes, in fact he has fixed it at least once as is obvious when his robotic body goes nuts in season 6's "Krangenstein Lives!"

And the way I've always envisioned it, "Turtles Forever" takes place sometime after OT season 10. After Dregg's defeat, Krang and Shredder jump Mung in Dimension X and steal what's left of his Microbots and BAM they've got the Technodrome and all their weapons back in a matter of hours. They then portal back to Earth and begin an all out attack for revenge, a part of which involves them again trying to create a mutant army.

I started a fanfic that follows this line of thinking a while back titled "Countdown to Forever" but I haven't finished it.

Okay, I'll post this here since it's the "official" talkback thread; after watching Turtles Forever in it's (edited) entirety for the second time today, I realized that the OT voices in certain spots actually were nice and not as terribly off as I initially believed a year ago. It was certainly a damn good job on the actor's behalves to get as close as they could - even Leo. I watched an early season one ep of the OT and noticed Leo's voice was a little deeper then that it became in later seasons, so I'm pretty sure the VA's for Turtles Forever watched some of those original eps to get a feel for the voice characterizations.

Secondly, I picked up on some things that I didn't catch the first time like when the 2K3 Turtles are in OT Turtles' lair, OT Raph beeps the remote for the Party Wagon and Turtle Blimp, 2K3 Raph is Mr. Snark by exclaiming "What, your clown car in the shop?" I actually laughed at that line!

I've pretty much gotten used to the replacement voices as well, even the Shredder, which used to annoy me to no end. I think it's the power of how awesome the film is.

The two voices that bother me the most after multiple viewings of this movie are Dan Green's Leo (not because it was bad per say but it was just Dan Green at his Dan Greeniest and not the least bit similar to Cam's) and Michelangelo which I didn't mind so much at first but now I'm finding the forced sounding voice to be a bit grating on the ears.

The best performances were easily April, Raphael and Donatello. April was almost a dead ringer other than some inflections.

I think the general problem is with the exception of a few voices say Townsend's Mike and other extra silly voices a lot of the voices from the old show were basically the speaking voices of the actors and in the case of most of the stand-ins you can tell they're not using their normal tone which can make the acting stiff at times. Even so I think the majority of them did a commendable job. It's just a darn shame they didn't get the original cast back to complete the package.

I was watching an episode of the Buso Renkin (it's a Japanese cartoon) dub in which Cam Clarke and Sam Regal were speaking in the same scene and I was like "man... that's how Turtles Forever should have sounded" ah well.

On the other hand the ribbing of the 80s toon becomes more and more annoying with each viewing for me. Some of the things that 87 Turtles do are tremendously out of character to the point of being a parody of an already silly show. But what they "got right" about them continues to entertain me greatly. 4th wall breaking, excessive quips, battle crys, fun loving nature (though they could have standed to be more serious at times) and their individual personality traits be present for the most part.

It also kind of makes me wish we had more of the 87 turtles in that animation quality cause it's absolutely magnificent to see those styles presented with modern animation.

Wait, Cam Clarke was in Buso Renkin? I know Regal had a smaller part in it, but who was Clarke? I can't find it listed anywhere that he was in it either.

I agree with this 100%. There's a few shots where they're off-model (particularly most parts that show the OT Turtles with teeth, I dunno why but it looked off even though I think they had teeth in the OT), but for the most part, they looked better than the BttS designs of the 2K3 Turtles. They may be designed to look goofier, but honestly there's a lot more details to their designs.

Oh yeah that too I really wish they had used the 2K3 designs not the 2K3 faces on the BttS designs like they did (or basically the Fast Forward designs without future gear).

Yeah Cam was in Buso Renkin's dub (he's also in Naruto, Honey & Clover and Bleach) he played InuKai the guy who summons dog robots. He might be listed under an alias though. I can't find proof online he did voice that character actually but I can tell it's him.

I'm gonna have to go watch that again now and see if I can tell, I never noticed. And none of the sites that usually list this stuff have the English voice for Inukai listed, blah...this is why I hate 'stock' credits where they just roll all the names without saying who plays who.

I watched this again on Nicktoons, for the first time in a few months, and it still hasn't lost the awesomeness (even if they do clip the live-action bit). Followed up by a nice new episode of Kai, it was a good night.

Wow i just got to see this finally...and im very pleased with how it turned out.

my one and only gripe is how they made the OT turtles borderline retarded throughout most of it...i mean the original series was far more lighthearted but never to the extent shown in the film...it was like having 4 michaelangelos.

however it added something to the 2k3 series that was missing for me...MUTANTS! seeing a cameo by tokka and rahzar was really sweet and turning hun into a mutant? awesome.

the voices for the OT turtles werent perfect but they were pretty darn close.

loved the movie though it was a great tribute to the turtles even if i feel like they snubbed the OT ones a bit...

i wish the turtles smash up game for the wii would have taken this approach like it claimed it was going to. instead it was a massive let down...

The real question would be, if he's alive, how does he get back to the 2K3 universe (assuming he does)? He's kind of left behind in the Mirage one.

Ch'rell is likely dead.

We'll never see him again. I find it unlikely the 2k3 universe will ever be revisited by Nick.

I can't believe I just discovered this movie a few days ago. I watched the whole thing on YouTube. I was blown away with amazement, it was truly a SUPERB movie, and an excellent edition to the Turtles canon.

I don't have time to read through all of this thread but I want to just say a few things...

I loved how the new toon Turtles kept getting annoyed at the old toon Turtles. Let's face it, the old toon Turtles...they just weren't the real Turtles, as much as I hate to admit it because I grew up with the old toon. I'm all about the new toon Turtles. I loved when Leo was like "Donny, whatever he just said, CAN IT BE DONE?"

It was great too when new toon Mikey got fed up with the old toons. Old toon Don's comment about saving April once a day was great. I found the treatment of old toon Shredder with new toon Shredder HILARIOUS. It was almost the funniest part of the whole thing. I love it when he just smacks them down...hahaha!

Like most people here I absolutely loved when we saw all the different versions of the TMNT ...Movie 1, comic, etc. and of course the pinnacle was when the Mirage Turtles showed up and kicked serious shell. Although, I still favor the new toon Turtles, especially new toon Leo. The Mirage Turtles were of course excellent but came off very "Sin City" at times. I never really pictured them with such deep voices...but it's all good. The Mirage Turtles rocked.

The Cons:

Old toon Leo's voice. WTF?

The ending of Shredder. I don't know if anybody brought this up already but, why didn't the Turtles just kill source Shredder on the rooftop, therefore eliminating the new Shredder? The same rule should have applied to Shredder, Utrom or not. I think this was a major flaw and would have been a better ending then having the giant Shredder lazered to death. Plus, I thought it was hilarious when the new and old toon Turtles threw Mirage Shredder off the roof with cans and trash, but wouldn't that fall have killed him, therefore (going back to my first statement) ending the Shredder in all universes?
