I think the point was to eliminate the Original Turtles, that was the source of the idea. Without them, no Turtle iteration would exist. That cannot be said for Original Shredder, he was linked to the Turtles, not otherwise in a "idea" point of view.

I really don't like the way they dumbed down every body from the OT just to make the NT look better and to make it seem like the best Shredder is a simpering space slug

Awesome find tone-master! I never noticed that. The NES controller is especially awesome.

Goodness.
I've been out of the loop for a year and a half... I've only just heard of this thing. I watched it. WOW. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't get the cast from the original 'toon back... most of them are still in the voice acting business, and prolifically, even. I'm wondering if there was some legal reason, contracts or something. Still, the voices were all right, and it seems to me that they improved as the movie progressed... which makes me wonder what order the scenes were recorded in (did they get better at approaching the original voice quality, or did they deviate further, as they went? Or did they even worry about that? The things I wonder about...) Yes, some of the silliness from the classic 'toon was exaggerated (they were almost always lighthearted, but they didn't laugh at everything), but for the most part I felt like it was out of fondness for the old show, rather than spite for it. The things I loved about the old show (I find the brand of humor less entertaining than I did as an 11-to-14-year-old, but it was definitely fun, and I still appreciate that) were there, the fourth-walling, the cracks, the... crack. Mutant bananas really didn't surprise me. Of course this is overlooking the last few seasons when they tried to make them look and act 'tougher' - but I don't think that's what people remember the most, when they look back on the series, or what the younger fans see watching it for the first time on DVD. On the flip side, the Back to the Sewer designs are probably not what people will remember most about 2K3, and it would have been nice to see their world in its original form. At least they compromised slightly and used the white-eyed eyemasks. There was good attention to detail - the original series had painted backgrounds, while the new is all digital flood-fill/gradients, and they were faithful to that. The classic 'toon Turtles were delightfully on model throughout (probably moreso than they were in their own show, at times *cough* Story-wise... poor Hun. I'm wondering if he was restored to his former self when the 2k3 universe was reinstated, or if he's stuck like that. Probably stuck. His gang still seems to be following him, though, so he's not completely alone or anything. I might pity him more, otherwise. still, wow. When the Technodrome was being refitted, Karai was talking about how Dimension X tech is ridiculous, and they were replacing it with Utrom tech... the soldier was ripping out one high-tech looking monitor and replacing it with another, I was sarcastically thinking "Oh yeah, I can really see the difference here... Utrom technology is so much more sophisticated. You replaced a square with an oval". Anyone else think this? Karai... I have written pages and pages on Karai's position, and how she relates to the Turtles and to the Shredder. I'm not sure I'm allowed to write more. That, and I thought she'd given up on Ch'rell. So, all that madness she went through in season 4, taking on his name, wanting to kill them to avenge him... and she was keeping tabs on him on his asteroid?! And not trying to rescue him, for that matter, as far as we know. My head hurts. And surely she'd know that he would cause harm to innocents if she let him carry out his plans, and we know she doesn't like that. She did it anyway. Even more surely, she'd know that he'd want to flatten her friends, and she really doesn't like that. She did that anyway, too. I don't even know why he didn't turn on her as soon as he woke up, seeing as the last time they'd interacted, she'd defied him, and I think he partially blamed her for being banished in the first place. I guess because she was useful to him at the time... though he immediately knew who to blame at the end, when his plans went awry a second time. And she thinks he'll be back, and my head hurts more, trying to figure out what weirdness everyone would have to go through for him to do that. Anyway, please forgive the extremely late babbling, I had to dump all that out somewhere. There's probably a million more things I can say, but I'll stop there for now.

Welcome back! Hope you get the site up and running again!
Anyway, I liked your run-down/review. It's refreshing to see this through virgin eyes some time after it aired. Makes me want to pick up the DVD and watch it again. Gotta get it online though... I've never seen it in stores yet. Quote:

Well they say first love dies hard...
Would you believe I never even saw this gem until last week? So thank you so very much TV Tropes. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...TurtlesForever So yeah, late review. Talk about nostalgia filler to the max. OT Raph's 4th Wall Breaking, OT Don's ability to turn random objects into... awesome things. Krang and Shredder's old married couple dynamic? It's after seeing them again after all these years made me realize how I really miss these guys. Bebop and Rocksteady too... for once again fouling up a pretty good plan for just being there. The Mirage Turtles? They are awesome for the brief appearance they made there. They're not nice mutants tho, because when they'd rather hunt down their Shredder than wonder about the giant machine in the middle of NY wrecking things, should be one indication. Love how they freaked out Ch'rell too while they're at it. And the Mirage Shredder being pawned by garbage as a nod on how he was killed off in the first issue? Stroke of genius. I've read opinions on how the OT Turtles were made "fun of and made look bad" when compared to their 2K3 counterparts. But I kinda disagree. I mean who made a portable dimension stick? Who saved the Mirage Turtles from being squished by using exploding throwing stars? Who defeated 2K3 Shredder with a giant Death Ray? It sure wasn't 2K3's Leo. True the OT's lightheartedness to the point of ridiculous made me face palm at most, but all in all, I think they did well... I still feel bad for OTLeo tho, he felt OOC for me, even being voiced by Dan Green isn't a good compensation (tho I admit the "He won't keep you up at night" quip made me LOLalot). Unfortunately the story ended with lots of threads left hanging. Hun is still a giant mutant turtle. The 2K3's lair is once again in ruins (poor dudes, really). the OT's iconic Turtle Van/Party Wagon is left in the 2K3's universe. Krang and Shredder has Technodrome 2.0 with its fancy upgrades and robots. 80's April and the mutant banana. So many possibilities... Last edited by Avatar Yuffie; 11-24-2010 at 09:19 PM. |

You know that is kinda funny that Krang and Shredder now have the pimped out technodrome only to never use it because they're too busy with tickle guns and banana peel molecular amplifiers.

Hun remaining a mutant turtle was a fitting end for his character.
It was much better closure than his last Back to the Sewers appearance, where Cyber Shredder just knocked him out. |

And the 2K3 guys would have to move again. I think they hold the record for this... this is the fourth time their home's got crashed? IIRC the other TMNTs didn't even lose their second lair...

Well, there's the live action movie. They lost the lair in the first then relocated in the second, and I think they stayed there until the third, I'd add they moved again because the lair looked different in the CGI movie where it's implied that it's a continuation, but Turtles Forever said the Live Action and CGI are separate universes. I'm kinda ignorant with the Archie comics version so I dunno about any lair destruction going there. The Mirage turtles grew up, so to speak, and became public... so they didn't live in a lair/sewer anymore.

No, they did move. In the first season the Turtles share the same room. In later episodes they had their own.
