I thought we were actually going to have a series that stayed true to its roots rather than compromise to attract the attention of TMNT "fans" who haven't given a sh*t in ages anyway that will buy one issue to feel old-school, complain about the lack of cowabunga and then forget the series again. I understand that it is implied that they will alternate between the two bandana styles, but still, for me it the decision to go red was to make a very important distinction between adult TMNT and kid TMNT. Those lines are slowly getting blurred, though, and it ticks me off. It's not to say the book won't continue to be of quality but that definitely takes some points off from my view of it.

I think it's only going to be for the two Infested issues however.

If so, it eases my fanboy rage a bit. I just fear that the day will come when the rainbow appeal comes in full swing.
It's fine for the cartoons, and even certain comics (like Archie, toon spinoff stuff) & films, but I hope this line stays "ours".

Yikes. And double-yikes. (at the color bandannas)

They had me going, too... I thought IDW might actually be trying to make them a legitimate ninja clan. IDW doing a bait-and-switch with the rainbow/toy/merch color coding bandannas would be a huge blow.

Oh, yeah, personally I just can't take Wolverine seriously when he's wearing his yellow-and-blue costume. For me it's yellow-and-brown or NO SALE!!!

If I wanted "kiddie comics," I'd go read Darkwing Duck or something...

Yeah, that makes Wolverine's ninja clan a farce!

Oh wait...

This is pretty much the way it is. I haven't written the characters any differently to how I would any other day of the week. You could recolor my Mirage stuff with colored bandanas and it wouldn't change those stories in any way whatsoever.

This is off-subject, but I recently read the Claremont-Miller Wolverine mini-series for the first time. I really enjoyed seeing the formation of Wolverine's modern characterization. Thumbs up for classic 80s comics!

Apart from doing so being, 1. Apocryphal, 2. A subtraction of major credibility points from the ninja clan they're supposed to represent. And oh yeah, 3. Completely needless.

Though we can appreciate you towing the company line in this.

Like I said over at the IDW forum, I feel that Tristan should be above prejudice.

If you don't like it when you read it: fine. But until then, just remember the kick ass stories we've gotten from him, without any stinkers to go along with them.

"like"

Also, needing ten characters can die.

I agree. Tristan's writing is more important than the color-coded headbands. Yeah, it's a annoying that it seems like a cash grab from people who only know the Turtles by their color coded masks, but I know Tristan can write these characters.

I don't think Tristan's ability to write the TMNT is really relevant to the matter. Yes, he can write some kick-ass TMNT, even within some pre-set parameters.

It's the value of those pre-set parameters that I think is on the table at the moment.

And besides, you don't even have to read this story if it upsets you that much. I mean, it's not like in issue #12 the turtles will be saying "Woah man, remember when we totally fought Cthulhu? That was totally tubuloso!"

From the sound of things it's seeming pretty sure that we're looking at Phase II of the IDW TMNT: the Turtles put on the rainbow bandannas at some point down the line after they reunite with Raphael... and it won't just be a one-off thing for Infestation 2.

I'm now seriously contemplating recoloring the issues IDW has already released, just to prove a point. Do the multicolored bandanas really affect the story? If IDW had started using them since day one, would we (Andrew aside) be having this conversation? I'm not happy about the apparently very arbitrary decision that this crossover needs the color code, but I'll get over it.
