Or at least care a little bit less. The way it's shaping up to happen feels an awful lot like a bait-and-switch move on the Mirage fans... and that kind of feels like a dick move.

So for me , more important than the color of bandanas, it is that change all of a sudden that seems weird at this point. And quickly embracing the good, sweet and friendly old toon colors instead of creating new ones.

I am sure that , ppl would not be arguing this much if the colors used were not the old toon colors as i said. Make them some colors never used. Build the logic around those brand new, fresh colors.
If all the Turtles wanted to put on all black bandannas or all white ones or any other kind of unified color for their clan, great. The mood ring bandannas put too much emphasis on the "Teenage" at the expense of the "Ninja," which really ought not to be made into a sham if they can help it.

I don't know if it's true, but I'd tend to like to believe there was some kind of battle behind closed doors with IDW and Viacom/Nick.

You know...

IDW: Here's our pitch for the IDW TMNT comic book, and we're playing pretty close to their roots... all red bandannas and all.

Nick/Viacom: Yeaaaah... about that... we've got the latest toddler cartoon coming out in a year and we really need to be about brand unity right now -- rainbow bandannas for the comic, or bust!

IDW: Yikes. Well can we talk about this a little bit? We want to make the comic for a more mature audience, so maybe the all red bandannas would help get this idea across. You know, show right off the bat that we're staying true to the spirit of what Kevin Eastman and Pe --

Nick/Viacom: No can do, Eye-Dee-Dub! You better send us a pitch with the ****in' purple on Donatello or we're goin' right back to the table with Boom!

IDW: Whoa, whoa, whoa, now just hold on and wait. Maybe we can work something out... what if... OK, what if the Turtles start out wearing the red bandannas but then move onto the rainbow colored ones later on... would that work?

Nick/Viacom: Hm, I'm not happy about it but I'm listening!

Etc., etc..

If something like that went on this would all be a little bit easier of a pill to swallow. Or at least we'd know which party to project our resentment toward.

You know its quite possible that Nick wanted them to have colored bandanas.

I also think they believe it will help sales. How many casual fans picked up the first two issues, saw the Turtles had all red, and were confused?

The colored bandanas will probably drive up sales, also with kids too.

I don't think it'll make one iota of difference and I would bet the farm you won't even see the slightest sales increase in the core IDW TMNT book month over month from the "Let's put on rainbow bandannas" issue before it. Your average comic book readers aren't going to care about that, period.

Agreed. It might spike sales for one issue, but that's all. Casuals will buy one for the laughs/nostalgia/whatever and nothing more will come of it.
Other than the IDW turtles losing their dignity, that is.

They did miracles for the Dreamwave book, after all.

(yes, I realize there was company issues that were the downfall of Dreamwave, but it wasn't exactly lighting the racks on fire during its 7 issue run, either)

Even if Dreamwave had been successful, it was based on the 4kids universe, so of course there would be colored bandanas.

Plus, they seemingly forgot to add "Turtles" to the Teenage Mutant Ninja part.

Yeah. It was certainly creative at adapting TV episodes in new lights. But not exactly effective at telling exciting stories, outside of issue 5 at least (which was my favorite of the series).

Andrew, I know what you mean, but there's no way I'd rather have the colored bandana's go into effect, due to Nickelodeon controlling the franchise, rather than have them because a writer believed he found a creative way to do the color's justice.

Either way, I'm all for keeping the bandana's red. The colors are silly, in a bad way.

Request to the colorist: If you do go color for the turtles, give Mikey a lighter-orange, near yellow. It look's way cooler than just orange, in my strange, deranged opinion.

If you want a yellow bandanna Mike, go to Target and get the fuzzy PJ pants. No kidding, the plastrons are orange and his headband yellow.

I always thought Mikey looked best with a duller orange, too. Not yellowish, but definitely duller than the vibrant orange.

I really hope if they do make colors happen, if for some issues, Don has a royal purple, Leo a darkish blue, and Raphael an actual red. Don's bandana was way too bright for me in the 2k3.

i dont know...i dont think nick is behind it. honestly, i dont think they want to conect the new toon to the comic with the comic being pretty violent and all. my guess is they probably like it as is, the comic for the mature fans and the toon for the younger ones. you can catch more fish using two nets.

i read on tristin jone's blog that he is going to be the writer for infestation. i enjoy his stuff so im interested. though im still not sold on mark torres' art. its OKAY, but the heads look a little funny to me...overall their physique looks too "humanly"...needs to be more "turtley" IMO.

dont get me wrong i love the "toon" styled turtles, i just prefer the comic be the comic and keep its original format and the toon remain the toon. i enjoy the differences between the two branches.

I like the original all red look too, but does it really make that big a difference? A little minor aesthetic thing isn't going to ruin the book for me.

I saw a preview for Infestation 2, and while I was indifferent at first, I'm looking forward to it now. A TMNT story with Cthulhu Mythos elements? It might be really cool.

I think the only strange thing about this is the Turtles are fighting alien/monster elements so early into the series.

Its going to be a stark contrast from all the more urban, realistic fights against street thugs and Foot Ninja...and a talking cat.

Though in perspective even with the Mirage material, when did they go off-world for their alien odyssey? Wasn't that like #5?

We still haven't quite gotten a solid urban/"ninja action" story yet, however, with all the focus on fleshing out the origin story piece by piece. I would hope one is delivered before things go too far into those directions (though they're directions I welcome when the time comes, as long as the pendulum swings back to the down-to-earth stuff afterward in appropriate balance).
