One day I wish the Turtles would wear a green bandana just to see if it sticks out at all from their skin.

That image is dark. I could barely tell which one they were. Has anyone ever done a poll in the General TMNT Discussion section for this topic? That way it'd be unbiased by only being in the comic discussion section (since most comic readers started with red). That way the overall fandom could be polled.

Virtually all the same people visit the general discussion as the comic discussion.

Also probably less than 5% of the people here started reading the comics before the original cartoon.

There's another issue at hand. It's not about wither I like the colored bandanas or the red bandanas more in everything, I just wish IDW had stayed all red. I'm not anti rainbow masks, as Andy likes to call them, but I wish the comics would have stuck with the color they've traditionally had in the comics...well aside from comics that spun off from TV series.

There's a lot I would weigh in on a lot of these new posts... but all I can say has already been said in the umpteen pages.

All I can do at this point is work on the video, my last, definitive word on the matter. Promise.

Just as a kind of odd addition, I posted a poll to the Technodrome Facebook group.
"Do you think IDW should have maintained the red masks or are you fine with the change to colored bandanas?"
  • Red Bandanas
  • Multi-colored Bandanas
  • This is a thing why...?

I'm feeling the booze a little bit in saying this but honestly, the all-red masks are boring in my humble opinion. The colors give them more personality.

I'm feeling the booze too... but colors do not a personality give -- that's called (hopefully good) writing and characterization.

Imagine Rekall, Inc. (from the Total Recall movie and the Philip K. Dick story) was real and one day you decided, "You know what, I have no personality. I want to go live the life of someone with a lot of personality" and then go in, pay the $400 or whatever to do just that... and all they do is just recreate exactly who you are already, but with the added caveat of, say, violet-colored skin.

Would this give you more personality? Of course not. It just makes you look like an a$$hole.

Good characters don't need colored masks to have personality....

Man, now I'm starting to not sound like myself.

EDIT: See...totally not me...totally Andy.

I totally see your viewpoint Andrew, and respect it ten-fold. It's just a thought I had, it almost felt like taboo typing it but it is how I feel...but hey, I'm with ya on practically everything else.

I am surprised you perfer all red mask,Jester. I thouught you were more of a big other media fan like myself.

Different color mask as neccessary for me to tell who is who without the weapons. I tried so hard to figure it out when reading some of the Tales vol.2 but kept mixing them up. With color in this series we can have the iconic four different color mask and there will be no confusion. No matter how big of a fan you are you have to admit without weapons its hard to say who is who and then when you do its a few pages in that a turtle was mixed up. We all see the TMNT in different ways. I see them with four different color of mask and they don't kill. Some think red mask show clan unity while its not the clan unity I am looking for but family and to me family does not need all red to show they are. It also makes for expression of personality and highlight that visually. So while I can enjoy TMNT with red mask as I do the 80s' Mirage stuff the red mask still bother me but at the end of the day its story quality and I think that is one thing that team multi-color, red team, team whatever can agree on. I also, think we can understand each other stances even if we don't agree or see the turtles that way in our definition of them in our personal mindset.

"Remind me to drop a line to Raph Nadar!" He may be the SAFE alternative choice.

This might be controversial, but I actually ended up liking Image's route the most. I thought scarring Raph and turning Donnie into a cyborg was inspired. As I've said, I do like the idea of giving the turtles more visual distinctions, though it's not necessary.

Sure, Donnie's cyborg design should probably be tweaked, but the idea works with me. Leo losing his hand was unnecessarily, especially since his ninjaken straps work well enough as a visual distinction. Raph looked cool with the eye patch, but Casey's mask was just too goofy. And I like the idea that Michelangelo remained untouched. But, I understand not everyone thinks that looks or is cool, so to each his own. I know this is about mask colors, but I just thought I'd throw this in since it's semi-related.

Cyborg Donnie was too much for me, scarface Raph and Skywalker Leo I could handle. But I rather they don't get maimed in such exagerated ways, at least not permantly.

Give it a break, Andrew. I know your a Mirage purist and we are opposite ends of die-hard fandom, but it is hard to tell them apart maybe not to you but it is to others.

I can see your stance as well Matches even though I disagree. I like to have intact turtles each with his own mask color. Its what I am trying to say in that we all love the Ninja Turtles but each have different beliefs of how they should be. I will lean more Archie and other media. Some like Andrew towards the Mirage roots while you are more of Image approach. Its the blessing and the curse of so many versions of the same basic formula. I think its a good thing. It shows our passion for the Ninja Turtles and at the end of the day we all enjoy seeing further project with the green team!

Oh, I definitely lean almost entirely on Mirage. I was just saying that I liked the "idea" of what Image was attempting in terms of visual design. Perhaps they could have handled it a bit more subtly instead of all at once. And maybe Don could build some kind of armor instead of being a straight cyborg, so it's not just a matter of maiming our favorite characters Like I said, Don utilizing some kind of technology that becomes a permanent part of his design seems pretty natural to me as well as Raph getting scarred in battle, since he can come off as the more battle-hardened turtle.

I love the original Mirage turtles and wouldn't necessarily want the turtles to start off with the Image designs right off the bat, but at the time it was introduced, it seemed like a very natural development (even if not introduced quite as naturally).

And I agree with you, Mikeandraph87, I'm always in favor of respecting other people's opinions and preferences. That's why even though I would prefer all red, I understand people have different tastes. Some may feel they have better reasoning, which they may, but in the end, we're all turtle fans.

Dude, if you read the books for a little bit you can tell who's who just by facial expressions and the way they write the turtles speech. And maybe for some people that is difficult to pick up on. But most people I know have little trouble knowing what turtle is talking after they read a few issues and picked up on each of their characteristics.

But a question worth answering is are people happy they made the bandana switch because they couldn't tell them apart or is it because they are old toon fanboys and don't agree with the bandana colors the creators gave them? Source is law.
