I for one am digging Valerio Schiti's take on Turtle proportions and 2003-esque range of expression. I think the face is super-important to get right, especially if you're like me and prefer the Turtles in uniform red. I wish more artists did well to individualize their face and body types.
I love the reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness on the second page, especially since I just picked up the book, myself. Quote:

Ehhhh. Maybe you were correct in the #7 thread about OT elements budding and budding until it's too late. Fred Wolf is reading this and laughing manically.
I suppose I can get with this. The art depicts something fairly easy to see through, but is only there as a symbol for the story, in which they are not so apparently mutated. Last edited by AquaParade; 02-24-2012 at 11:53 PM. |

Or warming up his team of lawyers, if that Kevin Eastman interview was any indication...

David Wise is the reason everything from the original cartoon is still remembered over 20 years later. I don't think David Wise actually quite knew the impact he made on the TMNT franchise... |

Being a ninja wasn't all about stealth, invisibility, and remaining out of sight. Forget the media that plays up on it, and getting dressed in black outfits. The majority of assassinations in Japan happened because ninja blended in, they dressed like everyone else, they were inconspicuous. Until he acted, you wouldn't know if it was a real priest or an assassin disguised as one.
Okay yes, turtle in a trenchcoat might stand out a little bit... the idea here is to suggest they could pass for anyone else, to not be noticed, to not draw attention... as opposed to being impossible to see whatsoever.

I'm looking forward to this micro a lot more after seeing the previews than I was for Raph's and Mike's. The art and the story just really grab me.

I may trade wait the rest of the series, and get them on amazon discount. The old cartoon was fun the small references here and there are great for nostalgia however Im imo its getting old and boring.
I understand the need to ref that stuff to give older fans the "oh yeah I remember that" feeling. I just dont want to see this go down the same road as Batgirl vol 4. Them walking around during the day with just a trenchcoat and hat that havent been popular since 60's. I guess next we will see them buy a pizza with little to no disguise, oh wait we did... Soon april will be getting kidnapped by some goofy mutant Raph will break the 4rth wall Mike is only good for pizza, videogames, and comics ----seems like it Don is going to make inventions out of pure imagination, a flashlight, and tripod Krang will grow to unbelievable proportions Shredder will be little to no real threat to the turtles not liking the direction of this series hope it gets back on track with the first 3 issues.

The series can't rely on old-toon homages forever.
Sometimes I feel like IDW is aiming this series at people who only watched the old show and never picked up a Mirage comic. |

This is part of the reasons I did not enjoy the Game of Thrones book. Too many characters with stories building up and cliffhangers. I think it is great we have Baxter, Hob, Krang, Alopex, and Bebop/Rocksteady. We have yet to see Shredder and seen the foot a bit. But all we know is that they are consistently up to know good. I really don't want to get bored and drop this series.... |

Im enjoying the series right now, but I am growing rather tired of the whole "lets ref the old toon" I hate recycled ideas, I want something fresh.

I really would have enjoyed it more if Donatello had worn pants, footwear, and perhaps a sweatshirt or oversized graphic tee under his coat.
The trench and hat was a cute nod to the old show, sure, but to help ground the seeming "over-the-top" nature of the Turtles, having them wear clothing in public would help.

I wish they would show how they are up to no good I know we are only 7 issues in but they published 10 tmnt related issues that could have easily tied in. This is getting too cartoony, not to rip on the (only read a few early issues)archie series but when it comes to comics I prefer them more serious. Its not the bandanas that has little effect on me as I am a fan of the movies. To me mirage/image comics are like the 1st movie archie is like the 3rd movie IDW is like the 4rth movie. I was hoping for it to be a good mixture of Movies 1&2
