Totally okay with this, although I hope, like others, that he loses the hat and coat pretty quickly.

It's a radical departure, but there's nothing wrong with that. He's a creepy motherf*cker, and I'm sure his intro episode will be relatively terrifying.

He was also some sort of eternal near deity...Mirage's Rat King is all over the place.

Rat King was in the OT. He was a bit of a misunderstood chap. Kidnapped April a bunch of times. Named one of his rats Mickey. *lol*

He got a bit darker in the TMNT Adventures comics.
