The admin at Bay's site has now posted this:

Quote:
The deal with the studio was finalized this early spring, and this was the script presented to the studio at that moment. Bay & company didn't get to write their notes until such time.

All this whining is pointless since they have moved on to a new script.
Hope Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady have been kept.

I'm guessing that bit of info is completely ignored in favor of 'I WANNA PUNCH THE WRITER' stuff in about 4 posts.

TBH, I still wouldn’t expect any major differences. People shouldn’t expect the newer script to all of a sudden be a perfect adaptation of the source material. At the end of the day, the leaked script we all read represents a very early version of what the finished film is going to be.

Maybe if these half-wits stopped trying to force the Turtles as aliens aspect on us and handle Shredder properly we wouldn't be complaining.

I wouldn't even be opposed to them simply making a movie based on the first 5 episodes of the OT. You could leave out the Neutrinos however.

There's no telling what kind of script this is now. Look Cyber, do you like Star Wars? George Lucas went through some crazy ideas, some of them were written into screenplays, and some of them weren't. The screenplays went through several extreme variations until it finally took the shape of what would be Star Wars (of "A New Hope" as it was re-titled in 1980). Even as the fourth draft was fairly close to what was in the film, it went through a revised draft, with Willard Huyk and Gloria Katz spicing up the dialogue, which had been fairly flat and unexciting, sort of like it was in the prequels. The point is you can't judge a final product by its earlier designs.

Another Bay Post

This is getting interesting. Bay just posted this:

Quote:
To end this stupid merry go round and explain the math...Yes we signed on two years ago to Turtles, but with no deal in place. Deal completed towards end of last year. And yes, thats how long deals sometimes take. So no work was done on the script. Blame Paramount, not us for the first draft.
Still doesn't explain the date on the script and why the writers names on the script are the two writers who we know are working on the script. Also confirms that it was a first draft, though. Still, it was Bay himself who first disclosed the alien angle, so I just find it hard to believe that aspect has been dropped altogether.

You know, if they're going to do the alien thing, they're not going to confirm it. It'd be a spoiler.

Yeah, this is weird and (maybe) interesting. That post I quoted earlier from the admin has been removed from that thread. I wonder why?

Basically, this is what I think. The script is the real deal, and Bay knows it. It was done when he and the other producers from PD were on the film. I don’t believe him at all. He's just lying. It was written by the MI4 writers. However, judging by the date, it was completed before the s#itstorm struck about the whole alien thing. Also, it was clearly a first draft, anyway. Since then, though, work has obviously been done to it, probably to make it (slightly) more fan-friendly. Still, it is clearly the story they're working from. They’re not writing a whole new script, they're just revising it. That's what happens with every script, anyway. Like it or not, the Turtles are remaining aliens. I will be shocked if they come out with a whole different story, with the Turtles being Earth turtles mutated from ooze. The whole narrative would have to be altered for that to happen. There's not enough time for that, seeing as the film will be heading into pre-production fairly soon.

None of the comments from Bay make any sense.

Here's the history of the movie/script as I have archived:

July 9, 2009: John Fusco named writer
October 21, 2009: Nickelodeon buys TMNT, Paramount attached to project
May 27, 2010: Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes attached to project
August 18, 2010: John Fusco script determined to be "not great"
August 20, 2010: Art Marcum and Matt Halloway named writers
June 7, 2011: Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec named writers
January 30, 2012: Date of leaked Appelbaum/Nemec script
March 13, 2012: Jonathan Liebesman named director

Work was definitely done on the script during Bay's tenure. At best this is the first draft of the Appelbaum/Nemec script, and who knows how similar it is to the previous iterations. But I still can't imagine much has changed since January.

Bay is clearly being creative with the truth here. Still, at least its confirmation that the makers fully acknowledge what’s going on. I just don’t think anything major will be changed. Although first drafts often do differ quite a bit from what eventually goes before cameras.

no surprise there about moving on to a new script

hmm, now I wonder if they purposely leaked this script to see how fans would react. Wouldn't be surprised

So I read some of the script (and x'ed out of that screen quicker than I slammed twilight shut) the other day and wondered what you guys at the drome thought.

I think they should hand it to Peter Laird and get him to add his own notes, because there is a real laugh to be had there.

I know but should we be bringing in sci-fi villains right away? The first film series waited until the second movie before Shredder got his own mutants. Mutant Bebop and Rocksteady didn't show up until the second episode of the OT, and the Turtles didn't fight Krang until the fifth. The Utroms didn't show up in the Mirage books until issue 3, hell in the 4Kids series we didn't see the Utroms in their true forms until episode 26.
