I doubt they will forget the 2k3 cartoon, especially if they start airing it on their stations, kids are more familiar with that version then any other.

I hated that he was so boring. The utrom thing was just a nice topper.

I don't mind them using CGI as long they use someone that can make damn good models and environment fitting the turtles and the theme of the show.

for me as what i have seen of CGI movies (not pixar and dreamworks but those other movies)and series tended for children, not many seem to focus on that.

It's funny, but you bring this up as if it's some sort of way out of left field outlandish claim, but this very "war" was waged every year The Sopranos was on the air.

Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Fetishism are indeed problems in the mass media. They're just not problems I feel qualified to delve into here and now. Mostly because I'm still working my way through them myself.

There's some great stuff out there if you're interested in searching it out.
I found http://resistracism.wordpress.com/racism-101/ was the most helpful jumping off point for me.

As I've said before, anyone who wishes to continue this discussion with me off thread is more than welcome to ping or pm.

So from now on all ninja shall be Swedish, all mobsters shall be Native Americans, and if the NBA shows one ****ing black man playing basketball... They will feel my wrath.

Thanks plaston, you've truly enlightened us.

Well does anyone think this means the villains would be mostly picked from the old toon lot?

I hope characters that were never animated, like Armaggon and Pizza Face could appear.

Armaggon would be flippin' awesome. I think the way they'll handle things in the new show depends on how much knowledge of the various different TMNT universes the writers for the show will know. One thing that made Tranformers Animated so awesome was that the people involved were hardcore Transformers fans, so let's hope the same thing will happen for this 2012 TMNT cartoon.

Yeah I also hope the writers at Nick actually research the TMNT history. It would suck if the people who write the show barely know about what goes on in TMNT at all.

Let's make things clear here!
2k3 and it's characters played a big price for Nick! They own 2k3! $10 mil went to 4kids! You really thing Nick will just Ditch such a successful cartoon! They can air their new show, while still airing 2k3! Maybe we get lucky enought and they will buy license from Fred Wolf films and we get OT on Nick at Nite, I heard there is a crazy fan in Viacom so be ready for enything! And as comics go, Nick allowed Mirage to publish 8 comics per year if they wish to (of course it will have to be censored h well, TMNT will rise again!

I wonder if one of Nick's competitors will undercut them by buying the rights to the old toon.

Here's my concern... do we REALLY want to see a pallid imitation of the old series? No, I love the old series, don't get me wrong. But how are we gonna know they aren't just rehashing old plotlines and basically repeating the old show with a false sense of nostlgia? Are they going to attempt to get all the old writers in there, or are we going to get a bunch of people with bad handles on the characters, other than the utterance of old catchphrases?

IF and only if they get the original writers, or someone who has the skill to write in the style of the old series, it will work. If we get a crummy CGI show with people trying to rewrite old episodes. turning it into a Jimmy Neutron looking parody, I just don't wanna bother.

And frankly, what's wrong with seeing something new? I don't want to see a pallid imitation of the 1980's series anymore than I want to see a pallid imitation of 2k3. I mean, those shows I already have seen. We've already seen. There were so many different types of TMNT in the original comics based on all the different writers and artists that worked on it. Does it have to clone any influences from something we've already seen?

If Nick pulled off anything resembling the Archie series I'd consider revoking all the negative things I've had to say about this buy out thus far.

I would be shocked if they acknowledged it. The core audience of 2k3 has already grown out of their target demographic... their only concern is to nab the next batch of little tykes the best way the beancounters have decided: to replicate the focal point of the original 80s craze, the original camp cartoon.
