What did TNM share with 2K-13 that wasn't part of the movie-verse? And, verce visa... Was Krang, Cracker Baxter or the Technodrome ever mentioned?

Correction. There's the first film and then there's the sequels. They are really two seperate universes. Just by tone and storyline alone.

1) The first five episodes 2) Everything before CBS 3) CBS before Red Sky 4) Red Sky Also, wouldn't that mean the the Archie books are multiple universes based on that logic as well? I'm not sure how many... but I'd say at least 3 based on the small collection I had. I'd love for TMNT 2 and 3 to be part of some seperate universe just because TMNT 1 kicks so much ass that it could easily be a standalone movie. Of course, I think the same things about the old and new Star Wars movies and the Matrix trilogy. It's all wishful thinking. |

I knew someone was going to bring up the old cartoon series (I was actually going to pre-emptively argue it but decided not to). For the record to a certain extent I do feel that they are seperate universes. Particularly the Red Sky episodes. Many feel, and it was even listed here, that Fast Forward as a spin-off to 2K3 (and I agree it is). If Fast Forward is a spin-off than surely Red Sky is as well? Claiming those two garbage film sequels were in the same universe as the first one is offensive to the comic film majesty that is the first film. IMHO the first film is a TMNT universe of its own, waiting for a true sequel to add to it. That's my hope for the upcoming film. Provide a quality sequel to a quality original film and erase the stupidity that was the second two films from the official continuity.

I did? I don't remember doing that. Can you point out the post where I pointed out FF as a seperate universe? Spinoff? I can agree with that. But spinoffs can take place in the same universe.
I just think you have a weird view that can overcomplicate something that can be complicated without any help. |

I made a thread about TMNT universes here:
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=17478 TNM was promoted as being a sequel to the cartoon but the show was not part of that continuity. if anything it seemed to take place in the Movie universe. as far as the new movie, I always wanted it to take place on the movie universe, and thought the picture that references old movies was a confirmation, but now i don't beleive so, after learning so much from the new movie it just makes NO sense for it to take place on the movie universe, its too different, not because its CGI or the turtles look different, heck the turtles look different on all 3 movies but they just don't seem to be in the same universe. the shredder helmet means nothing as shredder has been in all universes, so obviously this one did too, the time scepter could mean that these turtles also had a time scepter adventure, its not the first time two universes share something, archie shared krang. Its defenatly not in the 2k3 universe, is just a new universe. Archie is an AU, not really a spin-off, a spin off is using a character from one universe on a different storyline, and archie is not on the Marvel universe. The newspaper comic was mostly influenced by the old toon, nothing else. 2K3 has no spin offs, fast forward is a continuation, not a 'spin off' just because people don't like it doesn't make it one. Dreamwave was clearly the same universe, it mostly only told the same stories only a different point of view. Movies 1 -3 are obviously all in the same universe. I don't think Silver Sentry has ever been on Mirage but i'm sure he'd be considered part of the Justice Force now, since many elements of 2k3 have made it into mirage, so we can easily assume SS is now a character on various universes like say Casey |

True, I think the thing that confused it is this.
The Punisher met Archie in a one-shot comic book. The Turtles did the same, so it is a pseudo-link between Archie's TMNT and the Marvel Universe.

Didn't know if I should have bumped this or made a new thread..
Anyway now that the movie has been out for nearly a year what are your thoughts? Like I mentioned in this thread last year at first I wanted this movie to take place in the movie continuity, I guess mostly since it was also a movie. But the more I saw of the movie I realized there was no reason to shoehorn this movie with the past three. Especially after watched the movie it only made more sense for this to not take place in the movie continuity. |

I do not see why it should not take place in the movie continuity. There is no reason why it should not follow the third movie. And there is nothing preventing the Silver Sentry or the Utroms from being in that universe as well.

Anyways, it's really up to the individual, you could believe this film to be in continuity with the movies or not, no biggy. Myself, I put it in it's own universe: The first film OBVIOUSLY take place in the late 1980's, while this new film takes place in modern day (it even says so when it cuts to Central America for the first time) you could argue that the turtles have aged 17 years since the first film... but they really haven't. Then there's the whole new look, and new actors and so on and so on. |

Does that mean that through Archie's interaction with both Marvel and Archie TMNT, you could then link Mirage and Archie TMNT together through Archie and Marvel? |

I'd call TMNT a loose sequel.
It's like Superman Returns, which could follow Superman II (although ignoring III and IV), but doesn't really have to. TMNT could follow Turtles III, but it isn't required to make sense. They both have loose connections to the predecessors both in story and through references. Turtles has the Shredder defeated already and little things like the septer from Turtles 3 and the TGRI canister lying about. Superman has Lex Luthor defeated once already and things like the Marlon Brando Jor-El message and a comment about how Lex acted like he was in the Fortress of Solitude before (which he was in Superman II). Anyway, I guess my point is that movies like this are made for a very good reason. Many people are familiar with the characters, but not all of them have seen the older movies since they've been around for a while. So we get these loose sequels that anybody who's a fan of the characters can watch and enjoy. Personally, having seen the old movies, I do like to consider TMNT to essentially be Turles 4, and I eagarly await to see if we get a Turtles 5. |

I think "loose sequels" are the best way to go sometimes. TMNT (1990) was a good blend of the comics and cartoon, and I don't think there was any need to do what would basically be a remake.

It's basically it's own universe and a loose sequel at the same time if that makes any sense.
Read this. It might help. There is question about halfway down where animated views asks about continuity. Quote:

True but the 'let's make the whole thing lore' doesn't make sense at all. That means the Turtles not only handled the Shredder and the Triceraton invasion and whatnot, but they've also handled Bishop, Baxter, Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang and the Technodrome, Maligna, Null, met the Might Mutinamals and defeated Lord Dregg and the Dragon Lord before the TMNT took place.

Also, look at the GBA game based on the movie. It features Hun as a boss, and makes references to Bishop, Stockman, and Lord Simultaneous.

I saw Hun as a boss... and of course... Shredder was shown as a cardboard cut-out in a bonus game, based on the 2K3 design... as well as being a boss in the PS2/XBOX/Wii versions of the game...
But where were the references to Bishop, Stockman and Lord Simultaneous?? |
